  • 4:08 a young Duvall looks on

  • @hentajus How do you know that's William Duvall?

  • I want a boyfriend who looks like Layne !

  • i wonder if alot of the stuff jerry said in this video he would agree with now

  • "I can make you some.. i don't know... we got some Spaghetti-Os here." Jerry is epic.

  • does anyone know what song their playing at 2:20

  • @onlythebrave135

Queen of the rodeo- its on their demo's. And they played it in live venues all the time

  • @soundgarden21 Cool, thanks man

  • That ending line about their music career being "something that won't end" is so sad to listen to. Proof that drugs will put an end to anything and anyone. This must have been when they were all clean. Maybe not sober, but at least not doing any hard drugs. I wish it stayed that way, regardless of if heroin addiction influenced a lot of their later songwriting.

  • tks, who produced this?

  • For the same reason any band gets boo'd off. The crowd hated them and that's when Latye was still ratting his hair and wearing spandex. Facelift, Would, Sap , Jar Of Flies and Their Self titiled bear no resemblence to 80' s glam buttrock at all. Even Jerry Cantrell says he hated that shit. Seriosly dude listen to Bleed The Freak and listen to Talk Dirty To Me. There is as BIG difference between glam"metal' and real heavy metal i.e. real talent

  • "this is the only I've never quit." dude, I am so with you

  • Jerry has bangs!!!! haha

  • @zoelovesmusic303

Yeah, and I also find it funny how his hair is like perfectly layered. Was he just lucky enough to have it grow like that, or did he get it cut that way? lol

  • yeap they were glam band not grunge

for all of the grunge fans out their stop calling them grunge.

  • @americanliberal09 They started out glam and got boo'd off stage when they came through WA the first tour. Poison and Warrant are glam. Their style is one all on it's own

  • @mjbill86 oh really? but they sound like glam though but why are they boo'd off by the way?

  • the end is so sad.. rip Mike and Layne

  • wow it sucks all the talent dies in this world and we got stuck with rap and pop

  • That's a grimey place... I would almost describe it as being "grungy".

  • It's amazing how much Layne improved over a few short years

  • God I love that shitty classical Jerry is playin on!!! haha yezzir!! Rock the fuck on AIC!!

  • The best part is the band rolling into the night with the kingdome dimmed to the right.

  • this made me feel sick. I mean in a good way of course.. as in... "i'm sad it didn't work out the way we wanted it to be"...

  • 1:28 gotta pay respects the the gods of rock n'roll: the Beatles

  • Layne is so sexy!!! I must confess also, I dont listen to the new AIC because, it will never be the same without Layne,,, I heard a new song by them, doesnt have the emotion, like layne put into the group, he was the soul/voice behind them!!! But the old AIC music lives thru his true fans!!! R.I.P. LAYNE STALEY!!!YOUR WINGS WERE NEVER DENIED!! <3

  • is it from Music Bank? alice in chains were awesome <3 and I must confess that I have no idea of what could be the voice of the new singer... I'm so much in love with Layne that i've always refused to listen to them now.. ç_ç

  • Groupie chicks were a lot hotter for the hair metal bands --- I bet the grunge acts got pissed when girls showed up in flannel and no makeup LOL

  • Mike Starr was GORGEOUS! Look at that bone structure...RIP Mike Starr and Layne Staley.

  • @Frenchntoastty mike gained a lot of weight......lol.....

  • Layne's voice got better after the heroin

  • @bMoney9292 wtf?

  • Comment removed

  • @bMoney9292 dude that's messed up

  • @childxofxfate Sure it sounds messed up but look at the facts. In this video he sounds like just another 80's hair metal singer in a band that won't go anywhere. But when he was using his voice sounded so raw, so emotional. A song like Down in a Hole only sounds the way it does because he was messed up on heroin. Do I wish he didn't have to succumb to his addiction in the end? Yeah. But he never would have been as outstanding a vocalist as he was without the despair that heroin gave his voice.

  • @bMoney9292 better check your youtube homie- there was a bunch of great concerts in 89 in both tacoma and seattle with a lot of the songs featured on Facelift..

  • @bMoney9292 you said it

  • @bMoney9292 You're so right. I just wish rehab had worked after a while :( he would have at least lasted another 20 years maybe.

  • better than average glam before they found themselves and became magical

  • sylicone221 If you don't love them,don't talk like that about them!'Cause you're wrong!

  • Who are those people who dislike this? I'd kill them for that!

  • Nice tarantula!

  • man his voice is soo unpolished here compared to how he sounds live at the singles premere or live at the moore in 90

  • Long Live CHAINS!

  • Social parasite, LOL. The're old stuff was ok. They were searching for their identity.

  • Wood Harrelson at 4:24

  • r.i.p mike and layne

  • Its wierd tht they were kinda glammy....strange

  • Last of the TRUE Rockstars

  • I can't believe that two of those guys are already dead :( They look here so young, vibrant and hopeful!

  • @h0ll0h mike got fat heheheee

  • I think that shot at the end with them driving has been reversed. The King Dome should be on the left if they are headed towards downtown.

  • @landgabriel They appear to be heading north on the Viaduct. If the Kingdome was in the same position as Qwest field then this shot is correct and not reversed.

  • @HugoMasekela Ohhhh I see I thought they were on I-5.

  • only alice in chains for me.

  • holy shit I can't believe Mike is gone too

  • wats the song they play at 2:20

  • @ralfcaetano "queen of the rodeo"

  • @ralfcaetano Queen of the Rodeo

  • Most Important ThIng For A Rock Band

All 4 Live In A Shit Pit Apartment

All 4 Cramped Into A Very Cool Silver Convertible

  • Young AIC!!!

  • RIP layne and mike

  • I wish the acoustic jam/riff that jerry plays at 1:16 was recorded into an actual song. If it is a song it's sitting in some case/cabinet stored at the Music Bank studio...or in Jerry's home. It's freakin sweet.

Jerry has amazing talent with writing songs. Layne is my favorite singer of all time hands down. I believe Layne would have made it into something at least locally in 90's seattle with the rock/grunge movement regardless...but with Jerry it just clicked.

    Clean toes ftw, btw.

  • The most important part of rock and roll? Clean toes.

  • Mike Starr son

  • @yeee941

    What about Mike Starr's son?

  • Schaeffer is the One Beer that stands Clear!!!

  • its amazing how lucky they were, mind you mike inez already knew success to a point

  • Whats amazing is Jerry's guitar tone still sounds like him, even though he was using Randall RG100's!!!! Amazing!

  • 2:08 Jerry's short hair

    can you believe that? hahaha

  • Zemacabro music at 350 is SOCIAL PARISITE

  • Jerry reminds me here of Maria Sharapova ;)))

  • 0:18 see, that's not kids, dont try that at home!. does that make sense? haha

  • jerry looks like hes in a glam band

  • This is Awesome!

  • i hate it when we lose music geniuses forstupid reasons such as drug addiction

  • I have two favorites MegadetH and AIC incredible how drugs can tke it's toll to some awesome human beingsAIC had a unique style. RIP Layne

  • they were such a bunch of douchbags lmao. look at Jerry for god's sake.

still, Long live AIC. One of my favorite bands ever

  • @Tsuta

actually, these guy's would've been awesome to hang out with especially with their senses of humor.

btw, now we all know the secret to rock n' roll....clean toes...and seasoning of the vocals!

  • haha carpet wall!

  • 1:16 Love Jerry's playing. Such a great band!

  • thank you Layne for becoming that "rock guy"!

  • this is the real chains here

  • The ending makes me so sad. They were young and dreaming of that big rock'n'roll life; "hopefully it will work out well, hopefully it'll be something that wont end...." Couple years later, they got the money, they got the women and they got the drugs. They got the rock'n'roll life alright, but it didn't work out so well for them did it. The story of Alice In Chains is such a cliché in the music biz, it almost makes me sick. RIP Layne Staley

  • it dont matter the looks as long as the music is good and they always were and have been continuously so fuck negative comments the world needs more bands like this on

  • That's why there is only 1 Metallica

  • @FuckinMetal3694 how could you compare metallica to aic metallica blows

  • @joshfromil222 metallica is #1 #2 is chains

  • Wow they sucked big time at first they were so typically eighties I hoped their sound was not manufactured by the record label

  • i love this!!! i always wondered how it was at the beggining.

  • music from 3.50 to 4.27

  • I've partied in that Apt room in renton:P

  • I love alice in chains- is amazing - ( arequipa-peru) present

  • I don´t like their early stuff actually, it sounds to Glam Metal for me.

  • @SOB90 well you know what they say when starting off on doing something. You suck ass at it the first time then you work your way up to the much higher status.

  • @SOB90 guess like that destroys the whole grunge thing huh? ha ha

  • Alice in Chains: God's party animals, men among men.

  • WOW - thanks for posting this - never seen it before!!! xo xo xo

  • Does anyone know the name of the song Jerry's playing on the acoustic at around 1:15?

  • Spaghetti??????oh mio Dio!!!!!!!!

  • Holy crap! What a dump! I love Alice In Chains, but they remind me of too many of my old roommates!

  • jerry is pretty glam here.....

  • Alot of their firsst songs sound terrible, I'm hoping a record label and producer is not what gave them their first sound

  • @swiv2d i love all there demo stuff is very bluesy and they carried it on through to there 1st album i dont think it had anything to do with the record label

  • @barker888 I agree, the early early stuff was awesome too, like Killing Yourself. I wish they put that one Facelift too so we could have a better recording of it,one thats not all tape-worn like the demo. I really dig how glam they were up through Facelift, it was cock rock but it had a sneer to it and the lyrics were dark...like a Seattle version of Appetite For Destruction.

  • @swiv2d Thats a misinterpretation of their job really. Producers just take what ideas you already have and help steer it in a direction that will be appealing to your audience; they basically help you arrange the song structures, and try to imagine what vibe you want the album the album to convey.

  • Awe, I love Mike Starr.. I wish they would have never broke up... The original line up was the best. I do love Mike Inez though. He's so cute.

  • just wee littile kids

  • i love what he says at 2.40......soo fucking true....

  • This is the most important thing in rock n roll is having clean toes, and that's not a joke. lol

  • @CreadorMex well what if there dirty? or stink?

  • @rdcstyle6612

    What does Grunge mean?

Dirty and Stinky, kindly Sir. :)

  • Sweet Jeans Layne!

  • That photo is egual to Kurt Cobain's childhood photo!!!

  • queen of the rodeo

  • quuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuen queen of the rooodeoouuua

  • which song is in 2:26?

  • this video trips me out. if they only knew what would go down. i wonder if they would still want fame that bad. they looked happier when they didn't have shit.

  • @hershysquirts187 Indeed, they were enjoying it, before getting completely on drugs.

  • O M G They LOOOK So fucking good man

they are fucking rock n roll, what a team they are. so perfect man :P

  • 4:23 its beavis!

  • canntrell is the man too. very smart dude.

  • mike starr rocks, hes way better then that other mike, why did mike starr get kicked out of the band ?

  • @metal6876 mike starr waned to be with his family is what i heard, but on celeb rehab he says he got kicked out

  • than not then.

  • I hope that Sean eas not hung over when Mike and Jerr were jumping on the bed to wake him up

  • he was........look at him after....he was lyke leaning on the wall

  • agr why did lane had to die??? what an ashole haha I miss him

  • L-A-Y-N-E. Spell it right, fucknuts.

  • @postalsock I wouldn't say horrible, I'd say just average. Keep in mind it's hard to compare them then to what they became - the greatest live rock band to ever exist

  • it's amazing how healthy layne looks

  • @bobbieholbrook, it's also painfully saddening, given his loss this decade. I hate seeing people go to shit like that

  • @bobbieholbrook he was young here! sucks. that dude was so talented. had such a unique voice.

  • @bobbieholbrook true! =/

  • @bobbieholbrook More amazing how young Jerry looks...

  • @bobbieholbrook duh hes young

  • What's the name of the song at 2:30?

  • @venomousfish Queen of the Rodeo. It's on the Live album and it kicks ass! It was written by Layne and another friend not in AIC.

  • "New Music Guru" Damon Stewart, who can be heard in the intro to the Facelift Live VHS(!), used to play it on his programme on KISW back in 1990, even though it was still unreleased at the time, and remained so until Music Bank.

  • this makes me so sad. i miss layne so much. that band saved my life, a few times. layne could make you feel deep in the pit of your being that you're not alone so let's make the best of what we have.

  • Layne & AIC are one of the few reasons that make me appreciate life : ) RIP buddy. LOVE*

  • 4 08 its william DUVALL !!! HAHAHA

  • I wish I hadn't seen this video.

  • why do u wish u hadnt seen this ??????

  • @frostygetem

I shouldn't speak for him, (laughboy68) but I grew up in the Seattle area and I think he might have also. That was a magical time back then and we didn't know it would be gone someday. At the end of the video you see the Kingdome, in it's place today is Quest Field, and next door, Safeco. They blew up The Kingdome in '99 and no one ever really heard much of Layne after "99. Seattle is not the same, it's kind of sad.

  • ohhhhhhhhhh.......dude thanks fer clarifying i had no idea i thought the dude was tryin to be a hater

  • what is that song there rehersing.

  • Queen of the rodeo. Its on the music bank boxset

  • WOW

  • Wow...rare insight into a band that, at the time was struggling to make a name for themselves. Who knew then, in 1989, that these four lads would be among the biggest bands in the world in 2 short years and yet looking at this rather cliched "rock star" lifestyle documentary one feels a tinge of sadness for Layne, not for what he was but what he would succomb to: the excesses of rock n roll. R I P Layne

P S..I still can't fathom how his dead body wasn't discovered for weeks....sad indeed.

  • It's funny, someone there said,"Were 3 goregous blonds"............well today, it's now "3 goregous black hairs and one blond"........LOL

  • Uh, that's not what he said, he said i wanna be in a limo WITH three gorgeous blonds. Not We ARE three gorgeous blonds.

  • Mike Starr recorded the best AIC album (Dirt), i cant believe how some people didn't know him

  • Great footage!

  • this video is cool. and its not just some random black dude moron, Jerry's said he's known him for almost 10 years.

  • @ 2:37, Layne's stylish skull tattoo rocks. It's so old school looking. Does anyone know what it is exactly or if he designed it himself?

  • so glad they gave up the hair band and became what they are today.

  • spaghettios pwn lol

  • Whos on bass here? its doesnt look like mike inez?

  • mike starr. first bass player of aic, on facelift and dirt.

  • and celebrity rehab

  • And, don't forget the SAP EP (1991), too, inbetween Facelift (1990) and Dirt (1992).

  • It's probably Mike Starr

  • Mike Starr, he was the bass player to the year 93.

  • He came in after Mike Starr. Ironic how they're named the same first name.

  • they are soooooo cute!!

and layne and jerry look like a little kids here i love them!

  • Hahah damn it I laughed so much, especially in the beginning! xD They remind me of me and my friends. Seemed such a wonderful gangm having fun together and making great music. Alice In Chains are mighty as Hell.

  • I dig Layne's hair XD Haha...they were so young!! Thanks for postinng :D

  • omg theyre so young! jerrys so cute lol

  • @ 1:12, my god! Layne has gorgeous eyes! I miss him so much, RIP Layne thank you for the good music and inspiration =]

  • @riolinda91695673 Man i would have loved to be at that party when jerry met layne and they decided to team up. So much chemistry i think im gonna cum myself.
