Very nice piece of work! I always liked the Eagles and had two airfix kits, one of which I cannibalised into a craft of my own design. Ah, happy days...
The Eagles were the only cool thing about a very disappointing TV show. When we watched the show in 1975, Space 1999 was not very far away and the Eagles were futuristic enough to be realistic but not fantasy sleek as in Star Wars or Star Trek.
I don't remember the show. But I remember as a small child finger painting these craft because I remembered them though I didn't remember where from...
Few people know or care that these eagles, (modeled after thunderbird two) were supposed to use gravity compensators in the landing pod nacelles. "thunderbird six" featured this technology in the "skyship one". This is probably how they were able to effect planet-fall re-entry and without burning up due to atmospheric friction. They would gently "float down" using marconi vortex dynamo / super fluid gravity centrifuge technology! (Higgs-God particle accumulators?)
What I liked about the Eagles was how the different modules could separate and the different kinds, Emergency rescue Eagle refueling Eagles the Super one like the one they showed in ''The Metamorph''.
Rocketry and spacecraft designers say this design is one that would actually work if built. A sci-fi rarity!. I loved 'em. They always seemed to blow one or two up every episode though. I always wondered how many they had, and when they would run out.
Star Trek: Deep Space 9 tried to capture the basic elements of the Eagle with their Danube Class Runabout. They even emerge from a dorsal hatch just like them, and have detachable modules both in the front, and in the middle as well. The runabouts were cool, but we can see where they get the idea from. I actually think that those craft can actually work if we were to build those. It is totally feasible. My cousin had a large Eagle model that I used to love to play with when I was a kid. Fun!
i used to have a metal eagle spaceship- one of my favourite toys ever, it had the detachable mid section and all. what ever happened to all your old toys? i would never have thrown away this one !!
need to remake the movie, but with more more moon base, russian, china, usa, europe, for a better story without monster or alien at each episode, human conflict risk and surviv, sometime ennemy sometime allied.
Because scenario was limited, saison 1 was good, but the saison 2 was a massacre.
The Eagle Spaceships were very Cool in the 1970s. In the Remake they should be be just as Cool.. Maybe different types of Eagles would be assigned to Moonbase Alpha.
When they lifted up out of the Hangar on their Elevators they Just Looked Badass... Even the Superior Alien Technologies out there were no match for them.
Loved this show back in the day, I still enjoy watching it on DVD. Effects were awesome for the time, and the stories and plots were great. I beleive there were different classes of Eagles if I remember correctly. Some were for combat, some were for personnel transpo and some were for cargo.
Wan't it like the ones with red or orange were the combat eagles?? Wasn't eagle four the shit, cant quite remember... lol good memories, thanks for posting
In the backward USSR-scary Finland of 70s the series was aborted both in 1976 and 1978 by the YLE. The Finnish Kindergarten Teachers' Union wanted to abort the series by claiming the series rouse horror and hysteria among the children. Well, the cultural and social norms in mind, I did feel fear, the show came very late at night, maybe as a last program of the day, making it more scary. I was allowed to watch it only if my parents were with me.
interesting friend. i remember watching it in the 70s and loved it. i was always askin mi dad how the things worked . . . i still have a model eagle from the 70s . i just have it sitting on the table as i watch TV. cool yeah
The Eagle Transporters in the Remake should be a Little Larger. They should have some Color. Some new attachments and be better proportioned and explained in how they are constructed. in teh show teh Eagles were capable of almost anything. They were Tough, Versatile and durable.
Who can play Super Tough Austrailian Eagle Pilot Captain Alan Carter ?
Captain Carter was in the Austrailian Air Force.....
The Eagles were cool - Like most of you here, I too spent my hard earned pocket money on one. I do think however, that they should have been called Panda's, because they look like.... well, Panda's!
Don't get me wrong , cgi helps a little in realism in certain cases but they tend to overuse it these days , noting like a scale model to make a spaceship look real .
Great video & music score. I loved Space 1999 and remember buying the Dinky Eagles when they came out - I think they were about £2.45 each. (alot of pocket money!)
Awesome show I used to watch when I was a kid. In my country, the title show was changed to Cosmos 1999 (someone always change movie titles I don't know why).
The eagles were the best TV spacecraft ever, they actually looked then and even more so now that they could actually fly. I doubt they could make a better sci fi show even today.

Ask NASA. They've been busy with the Space Trucking Company in orbit. Project Constellation & the single - stage Orion craft w / help take us to the Moon & Mars using " Can - Do " era Apollo - era technology re - vamped for the 21st century. If things had happened a little differently, if NASA hadn't scuttled the Apollo program, we'd likely be on Mars by now, at least a FEW outposts. & spaceship like small cities - Think Battlestar Galactica or Enterprise - D sans warp drive or FTL.
With a variations, like the absence of landing bays, they ALMOST resemble smaller versions of the Galactica & Pegasus from both the original & re - imagined Battlestar Galactica series, at least to me.
I wonder if Glen Larson cribbed some from their blueprints ?
Really? That was always one of my theories. However, I always wondered where they would get their fuel and raw materials from and how would they process them without huge smelting and fabrication plants. Neither of which were evident in the show.
in the shots in the hangar you can actually see they have dozens of them, it seems like far more actually got destroyed overall than actually were in reality when you count them all up (You seem some blew up as future predictions and all sorts) but they certainly did get through a few and crash several more, I imagine spare parts must have become in rather short supply by the end of it.
NASA likes the design so much that they will build full size operational Eagles for future missions involving a future moon base to be called Moon Base Alpha.
Yeah, the Hawk was a fighter craft with a "head" similiar to an Eagle's (except it was wider and flatter and only had the top pair of windows). It appeared in the episode "War Games".
Love the Eagles and the show. Just started watching the DVDs after not seeing the show for many years. One question though; How come when they looked out the front windows you could never see the Eagle's "nose cone", especially when flying close to a planet? How could they even look down?? Wait, I know, the "window" was actually just a video screen and the camera was mounted on the tip of the nose cone. It's possible, right?? ;-)
There's something believable about that utilitarian design. Like it could be used for earth and moon orbital procedures and landing on the moon. Or like nasa could have a dozen of them, each slightly modified to different purposes.
marcantallita: Thats one thing I never worked out, why were some of the Eagle toys green?
You never saw a green one in the show. But somehow they still sold enough of them to fans like me. And I wonder why they never made a poseable Sandra doll, I'd love one of them.. ;-)
Dinky liked to remain faithful when it came to Anderson, as with SPV and 101 TB2.....but they also tended to use up overstocks of paint...Hence later FAB 1s were a ghastly shocking pink instead of Penelope pink.
Nice job done, I used to have a little eagle model when I was kid and used to fly it around with the music that I've recourded from the TV....good old days.
They remake pretty much everything these days, I wonder they will make a new space 1999 and perhaps call it 2999?. lol
man i use to say that the eagle look like a lizar lol!! i was like 9 at the time. by the way the re-entry glider looks like the new transporter that nasa is planning to build in a near future
I liked the Eagle Transporter with the piggyback Re-Entry Glider at :35, think it was from season 2. Seem to remember they were exploring a distress signal from a planet, and Tony Cellini going mad from looking at an alien deity.
I saw a real life used in filming Eagle in Blackpool in the early eighties. Without a doubt one of the best space ships in SF! The model was a close up one as well (over a meter long) and just so fantastically detailed. CGI will never match the skill and sheer detail of the hand made models. This should be remade! NOT with CGI nonsense though.. The Eagles should soar again!
The best show ever made! I think its about time it was made into a film..I think it wasn't given enough credit for what it was.
If you see what was and is re-made, some of it crap I'm sure some of you out there would agree!Common film makers you've exploited everythin else..I'm sure you are running out of idears to copy!
The Eagles were cool. Interesting how their landing gear never retracted. I remember my cousin had the die-cast model of an Eagle with the working rope winch in the body. I wonder why they never had the tractor beam action in the show?
Yeah, I'm 9 years old, again, too! I remember building models of the Eagles and hanging them from my bedroom ceiling! I agree, Hollywood should do a remake of this series, as a movie! But, then again, if something isn't broken, don't fix it!
Hollywood has run out of original ideas. Remakes are all they know how to do. Don't be too suprised if someone desides to remake this one. It may not be too bad though. The remake of Battlestar Galactic is far better than the original.
I agree, Nexus974! But now I see that Voltron will hit the big screen next year! Live action? OMG! Who are they going to cast for that? Uma Thurman as Hagar the Witch? Jim Belushi as Hunk? Anne Hathaway as the Princess? Oh, wait, she's done that already! Abigail Breslin, then! Be afraid for this remake folks!
While the Eagle is one of the great Sci-Fi ship designs, as a vehicle you had to wonder about them. Their mission return rate was right up there with Kamikaze pilots. I always wondered how many of them moon base Alpha had in storage...
Mike, Thanks for the memories of being 9 yrs old again! I loved the show, but the Eagles were by far my favorite part! I used to make my own toys that were not available in stores from stuff I'd find at home. I used to slightly flatten an empty TP roll and add the landing gear pods and nose section made from tin foil. I covered the whole thing with white cloth hospital tape. I'd use a marker pen to draw the narkings on to finish a pretty neat little model. Thanks again for posting this tribute!
Hi MikeE381. Here is my comment again you accidently deleted (at least what I remember)
The Eagle ship is still the most orginal design, even by today's standard. I hope they keep the same ship if they ever decide to to a "Moonbase Alpha" movie.
BTW where did you get that orchestra version of the Season 1 theme? It's very good.
Thanks for a very well done tribute to a classic space ship design. They sure did go through a lot of them didn't they? The was hardly an episode one didn't get blasted.
Thanks for your work. I wish somebody would make new series for TV. I don't know if i would like it because the real people from the series couldn't play anymore but who knows it could be good... Thanks a lot again...
Very nice piece of work! I always liked the Eagles and had two airfix kits, one of which I cannibalised into a craft of my own design. Ah, happy days...

marcantallita: Thats one thing I never worked out, why were some of the Eagle toys green?
You never saw a green one in the show. But somehow they still sold enough of them to fans like me. And I wonder why they never made a poseable Sandra doll, I'd love one of them.. ;-)

Dinky liked to remain faithful when it came to Anderson, as with SPV and 101 TB2.....but they also tended to use up overstocks of paint...Hence later FAB 1s were a ghastly shocking pink instead of Penelope pink.

i thought the eagles were the coolest spaceships growing up. after watching this clip i still think they are.

I agree!
Designed in the early 70` and still looks contemporary....
The designer should have a medal!!

Nice job done, I used to have a little eagle model when I was kid and used to fly it around with the music that I've recourded from the TV....good old days.
They remake pretty much everything these days, I wonder they will make a new space 1999 and perhaps call it 2999?. lol

I had the giant 3' long model of the Eagle as a kid - I wish I still had it but it went the same way as the Eagles on the show - CRASH!

man i use to say that the eagle look like a lizar lol!! i was like 9 at the time. by the way the re-entry glider looks like the new transporter that nasa is planning to build in a near future

BEAUTIFUL

If you see what was and is re-made, some of it crap I'm sure some of you out there would agree!Common film makers you've exploited everythin else..I'm sure you are running out of idears to copy!

the eagles got the crap kicked out of them more then the people
yourworsthell 3 years ago
probably one of the most beautiful starships ever made in a sf serie or movie

The Eagles were cool. Interesting how their landing gear never retracted. I remember my cousin had the die-cast model of an Eagle with the working rope winch in the body. I wonder why they never had the tractor beam action in the show?

Thanks for your comments! Do you remember the incident with the "bubble atack"?
MikeE381 3 years ago
Yeah, I'm 9 years old, again, too! I remember building models of the Eagles and hanging them from my bedroom ceiling! I agree, Hollywood should do a remake of this series, as a movie! But, then again, if something isn't broken, don't fix it!

Hi TAD08 Lol, Thanks!
MikeE381 3 years ago
Hollywood has run out of original ideas. Remakes are all they know how to do. Don't be too suprised if someone desides to remake this one. It may not be too bad though. The remake of Battlestar Galactic is far better than the original.
Nexus974 3 years ago

Lgilsig 3 years ago
the eagles should be the space shuttles natural succesor, they were one of the best sci fi support ships

It's very good.
upchuck69 3 years ago
Hi upchuck69
Thanks for Your comment!
Have to agree on the Eagles design! They stil looks so good! The orchestra version, Ive downloaded from YT dude: User1198...

Didn't the gear retract? I remember the show but was under the impression the gear retracted after take-off.
copcardude 3 years ago
From the model it appears the gear retract, but this was never shown in the show.

Thanks for your work. I wish somebody would make new series for TV. I don't know if i would like it because the real people from the series couldn't play anymore but who knows it could be good... Thanks a lot again...
