What a self-aware game. Mario 3 had such an incredible understanding of the NES technology and its limitations. I've never seen an NES game that looked so clean or had such full-sounding music. Even the theme, that this is all taking place on a stage and that when you beat a level, you're exiting stage right, shows an incredible self-awareness. Anyone who wants to work on games, whether it's music or graphics or design, needs to study this game closely!

After having played both SMB 3 and SM World again in recent times, I can state with confidence that SMB 3 was the better game based on music alone. The way Koji Kondo and Miyamoto worked on this game to achieve the epitome of charisma and magic in sound and image atmosphere was never equalled in the 8/16/32 bit generations. I think only Zelda Ocarina Of Time came close to this constant flood of revigorating afection, charisma and magic that this soundtrack meant to me. Phenomenal and timeless.

I spent WAY too much to get this game before it's official North America release date... But it was worth it to me. This game was awesomeness in every way, shape, and form. Still one of the best in the entire series to date.
