I think the japanese exercices at the beginning are way too slow...! you will never proceed like that, no matter which language!
when I started Italian, my teacher started speaking in a normal (fast) way from the beginning, same for my Japanese course... it's maybe hard in the beginning, but you can get used to it quickly. and now I have a big advantage---
Lol, yeah, Japanese is way easier to pronounce than Chinese. Chinese has lot of "ch" "zh" "sh" sounds and lot of sounds that other languages don't have. Japanese is very syllabic and has easy sounds that all languages have already. Japanese doesnt have complicated sounds i mean, its like : to, wa, ka, ko, no, mo etc... simple.
@krystal3091 true but also in Japanese we have different ways of saying words... I mean like how you need to say it. just like in chinese. for example "ame" which is rain and "ame" which is candy... we need to prnounce it differently.. o.O; and my explanation sucks ahahhah
@AquaaLeo do you mean "ni hao"? which means "you good" which is the common form of greeting in Chinese, so basically "ni hao" means "hello". and "ni hao" is pronounced "nee how" with the first syllable that sounds like "nee" being in the first tone which is flat, stays the same tone, then the syllable that sounds like "how" is in the third tone which is the tone where you voice goes down, then up.
Antking: Are you American or a native English speaker? I'm a Mexican American (born and raised in the U.S), and I find Mandarin Chinese to be much easier to learn than Japanese. The grammar is easily adaptable for the native English speaker. I will admit that Chinese pronunciation was a little bit difficult at first, but after practicing for about 6 months and following the phonetic rules clearly displayed in pinyin, I picked up on speaking Mandarin quite naturally.
I´m mexican and i´ve to say that japanese is easier than chinese at least phonetic is similar to spanish and even grammar is not that complex i thing its pretty logical and mandarin its not easy to me beacause of its grammatical simplicity.
Ur Chinese pronanciation is funny. It really hard for u to pronounce the Chinese word. Since the sound of Chinese pinyin Is not so consistent with the sound of English. Haha. The phrase you pronounced should like "the er nyue hi tsi chai ho shui" in English.
Dude, the trying to speak Mandarin on RS is seriously hard as shit. You have to have the right tones and it is wicked tricky (I've said my share of "fuck this shit" as well while practicing)
chinese is a very complex language. that is why it is hard to learn. but when you are fluent with it. you will be greatly awarded because chinese is a very important language and is helpful in many ways.
i know what you are going through... i learned japanese years ago, I do not remember anything now but the punctuation is still perfect and i am trying to learn mandarin now. Any tips you could offer as far as sites i can access in the U.S.?
I know what you are going through.... i learned japanese years ago, i dont use it anymore but pronunciation is still perfect.... im trying to learn mandarin now its really hard to pronounce anything
LOL "f$#$ that __ man" You are speaking too fast, it sounds like you are speaking another language! :-p Do they have a slow-down button so you can try to speak it slower?
I am against learning Japanese, but this almost makes me want to pick it up...seems very easy to pronounce. No wonder more people learn Japanese than Chinese around here...
@Xinoutorah thats a little odd, i plan on learning japanese, spanish, latin, german, and possible french. it will look great on my college resume, but japanese german and french will be the most imprtant, because alot of buisness is done in those languages.
You're speaking it too fast , sounding almost like an old man. You're even missing some words for the Japanese words. Although may seem easy for you , but not well spoken.
Wtf...How can you fail at reading the Chinese when they give you the pinyin? Sure, you won't have the greatest pronunciation but at least you'll get the order correct...
@ShinyFilms I am assuming the program he is using doesn't teach him about pinyin or how to pronounce it, but merely gives him the pinyin and the pronunciation that goes with the whole sentence. Either that or he skipped an important beginner's lesson.
i find japanese easier to speak, but chinese grammar seems more natural to me. both are difficult! i took spanish in highshcool and it was a breeze compared to either of these lol
Mandarin is heavily influenced by Mongolian language so it has crazy tongue twisting part. Chinese people who aren't speak Mandarin as first language also have very hard time pronouncing Mandarin right.
But I warn you in here Japanese grammar is more crazy.
lol at the end when u just give up. Mandarin is harder than japanese in terms of pronounciation but dont give up. And just a little advice, concentrate on one language first and try to get fluent at it first. Don't try and learn 2 new languages at once otherwise it will take u forever to master any of them.
its hard for people because of the tones, which i dont think exist in the same way in other languages...btw you are getting the word order all mixed up try reading the romanization first... -,-
@antking1117 The problem is not that cantonese is hard, it is since it is impossible to pronounce the words, meaning you cannot learn how to speak it without listening and you cannot learn it fluently from a book....
