  • Yes. I watched it on-line. I think it could have been OK but I think a series based on the books about the Time Tunnel would be better. I had to use forced perspective with this model. If you look down a real tunnel with stripes you get terrible moire patterns. So I experimented with how deep the cone could be and came up with a good compromise.

  • Did you happen to see the attempted, yet failed Fox remake a dew years back. Very much CGI stuff that was at least better then the original. This one is much better. One thing that always bugged me about the original "prop" tunnel was that you could see that it had a fake back to it and that it in no way could back into the depths of the complex miles and miles.

  • Very cool, I'm putting a link over at the forum!

  • @Autocad

    Thanks. Which forum?

  • @KleveDave I don't know if YOUTUBE allows links.

Type in LOSTINSPACEFORUM or Lost In Space Forum, and we have a spot for all the Irwin allen shows.

  • I like.Too bad the show can't or hasn't been updated today. Imagine what they could do with it.

  • i actually never watched this show but loved all of his other shows...really looks so cool sounds like the lost in space ship....nice...

  • Really terrific work! I love the sound and visuals. There seems to be a sonic connection to another great Irwin Allen vehicle - the Jupiter 2. I'd love to see more!

  • great effect

  • Thank you. This is what I always imagined if should look like. I'm slowly working on an update to the 21st Century technology while trying to maintain a comparable appearance.

  • Your job is beyond outstanding! ABSOLUTELY first rate! You took the basics of the 1960's show, kept the best of it and enhanced it in inspired fashion!

  • Thanks. I started with a mono channel and manipulated it into semi reasonable stereo channels.

  • Excellent! A harmonic sound of sorts...

  • Really cool...I always loved the Irwin Allen sound effects. Watched this new when I was about 5. a few of the shows were frightning for me at the time...hahaha

  • Buckaroo Bonsai would be proud! I always thought just like you.

The explosions should have tole Tony and Doug STOP! DANGER! DO NOT ENTER!

    :-)

  • Very good!

  • @enigma413

    Thank you.

  • 1960s Star Trek episode, City on the Edge of Tomorrow hand only 1 Ring to jump into Time.

  • @maureencora1

And nobody knows, not even the ring, who built it. I'm guessing 1968 Technology was not as advanced.

  • awesome!

  • Absolutely fine Animation. Also pretty good exciting Sound-Effects in this Video here. I was waiting every Second to see Doug + Tony coming out of the radioactive Dust from the Tunnel :-)

This Video is brilliant. Very colorfull and the Details are very good to see. The interresting Camera-moving-around makes this Video-Animation perfect.

    Great Compliments for creating.

  • Great CG. What program(s) did you use to create the models?

  • @hamiltonpl

I used Lightwave 3D to build the models, create the flashing lights, do the animation, and the effects.

  • It's interesting to note that inside the event horizon of a black hole the time dimension becomes spacelike. Movements in space become movements in time. Perhaps this is the theoretical basis of the Tunnel.

  • @plymouthbelvedere ,

I believe that the Time Tunnel does move things in time and space. Possibly it would even move things between parallel universes. At least that's the way I seen it.

  • Brilliant! Keep up the good work!

  • @crmfghtr

Thanks I need to do more with it.

  • watch?v=1KiXw2VVaT4&feature=related

  • That is awesome! Add some people with greenscreen effects and it'll be more so. I remember watching Time Tunnel as a kid. It was one of my favorite shows. This is very close to how I remember it.

  • @0rip0,

Thanks. I’d like to do that. I also thought if there were a Time Tunnel retrospective that it would make a good background while the Stars of the show reminisce. I’ve been thinking about how I would revise the design to make an updated version of the show. One where they actually have control of the Tunnel and can send people intentionally through time and space.

  • This was very nicely done! I really appreciated the blue swirling cosmic, time waves-like effect in the time tunnel. The sound was cool too! Your noise too?

Was a cool show! I would like to go back and watch some of the episodes! Maybe I'll be able to get the DVD's. It'd be fun to see! Thanks for the effects!

  • @Awwa1 , The sound is from the original show. It was a mono file, I found on the internet. I duplicated the mono track into a second track for stereo. Then reversed the phase and manipulated the audio levels to simulate stereo. Thanks. I think it had the potential to be somthing like Stargate SG1 except with more time travel and some travel around the galaxy. With some alternate universe travel thrown in for good measure.

  • @Awwa1,

I've seen the DVDs for sale. Also one of the online video broadcasters has Time Tunnel episodes.

  • THE MONTAUK PROJECT.

  • Great job! Inspiring!

  • Time Traps Us.

Time is Transparent..Yet we all Feel IT.

  • Ok everyone out there, start thinking that time travelling may be a very real possiblity, even in the 1960s. Just thought I'd throw that out there see what some of you think.

  • Very, very cool. Thank you.

Merci. A bientôt.

  • wow!

  • Thanks. If you go to the Irwin Allen News Network there is even more.

  • I always loved that sexy matt painting they did for the first episode, gave the impression the tunnel itself was MILES long. Was the concept of frame dragging around then? Still, a fun show!

  • @bluehazer In one episode, Ann or Ray said "The tunnel extends to infinity." I was in sixth grade at the time, and I still thought that was stretching things a bit TOO far (so to speak). ;-)

  • @terentii NS! One of the first shows to use "forced perspective" to create such an illusion, yes. Still, older, wiser, I can't watch the thing anymore without wanting an explanation or four: Frame-dragger? Einstein-Rosen doorway? Sagan-Thorne "Great Machine"? Or one of the Doc's TARDIS deals?

    Oh well, it was fun!

  • @bluehazer In Star Trek, the same effect was used for the Enterprise's matter-antimatter reactors in the Engineering section. It was also used in "The Cage," and before that in movies like "The Apartment" (in the huge open office space) and "Casablanca" (at the final airport scene), always with midgets playing full-sized people.

Whenever I watched "Time Tunnel," I always tried to spot the point where the traveller disappeared behind the screen before the fireworks went off!

  • @bluehazer Of course, for it to be like a TARDIS, it would have to be "trans-dimensional," which actually makes the most sense of any of the time-travel jargon I've come across. What's always bothered me is how everyone always seems to ignore the spatial dimension of time travel (though on "Time Tunnel" they did require a geographic fix along with the time fix).

  • @Kanakaberaka Sounds like a good idea. I'd love to have the time to work up some stories, but that won't happen at the moment. I have to pursue more commercial writing.

  • That was the only thing that made it practical for a TV show budget. It would still be difficult to do. Having a film library to draw on and then being able to enhance what you see with CG would make it much more practical now.

I think that it could be done much like Caprica is done today. I can imagine lots of possible stories. People researching the past. People with political and/or moral motivations trying to change what they don't like in the past. I think it could be a good series.

  • WOW!!!!! I was six years old when this show premiered! The image of the tunnel has stayed with me! I loved this! (Six to fifty, wow I am traveling in time!)

  • @TheMikester307

Thanks. I always loved the visual. I wish the series had gone on.

  • @DaveKleve So do I!!!

  • @DaveKleve The problem with the series, as I saw it, was that it became formulaic. It was ALWAYS one of my fave shows, but, it tended to become a history lesson in each episode. They never went to a place where there was no major historic event. Okay, once, they made one about aliens in the future. I'm VERY surprised to hear that there was only ever 30 episodes made! I watched as many as I could when it came out, but, I'm, now, finding dozens of episodes I've never seen before!!

  • @RedVynil As Mr. Spock would say, they were drawn to "focal points in time." That one phrase explains everything! :-D

  • Nicest animation I've seen! Very good console detail too.

  • Well done!

  • Thank you. I don't get to work on this as much as I'd like. I'm trying to put together another that will be a little more entertaining.

  • @DaveKleve great video sequence.always have been memerized by the time tunnel image.one of the first things i tried to paint as a 6 yr old in school.time tunnel the movie surely beckons.

  • @macwhites Thanks. I'm slowly working on more.

  • Thanks. The sound is a mildly reprocessed version of the original audio file. I’ve always liked the image of the Time Tunnel. I think it could have been something like a cross between the TV shows 7 Days and Star Gate SG1.

  • This effect is remarkable.I like the sound effect...very ominous. The time tunnel is way better than the stargate and looks like it's based on the tiplar cylinder theory.Worth watching a few times.

  • Thank you. I don't get as much time working on CG as I'd like. I always thought the Time Tunnel had a great deal of potential. I imagine it as something closer to Star Gate SG1.

  • very cool!
