I was there in 2009, Compound 18 Navy Row, we were the last NPDB unit in Camp Bucca before it was closed. Camp Bucca was a nightmare, specially working in MDHU, Modular Detainee Housing Units, we had all the high risk detainees. The funny thing is I hated being there now that im back home I kind miss those days.

@mich3620 I've read that thick ass SOP and I'm pretty sure, electronic devices including cameras were not allowed on the TIF, especially to tape a riot. I'm surprised you haven't gotten in trouble, I know the TIF is closed by now, I know i was there 2008-2009, but this video was posted in 2007 when these rules ment something.
@jaiitup Apparently you didn't read the section that authorized the use of video cameras for these purposes? Riots, Prisoner Extracts, etc. The videos are used at a later time for higher authority and and legal issues that may/will arise as a result of riots. We used video/digital cameras all the time when searching rooms/tents just for the purpose of covering our asses.
Of course Joe with an unauthorized camera isn't going to be filming like he is George Lucas and just walking around.

The camera was probably to document their use of force and the incident. They do it at prisons here in the states all the time with combative prisoners time permitting
while i deff agree that this is a major opsec violation, i can tel you first hand that when they would riot it was not a joke. those are not just "mud rocks" they are sand mixed with chia tea that when dried is harder than rock and perfectly round and great for shooting with sings and sligshots. and most of the time (at least in the compound i worked) they would put pieces of razor wire in them before they dried so they were razor balls. you also dont see the fire balls they made in this...
these were not just "inocent iraqis" these were murderers, and bomb makers that could make napalm like fire balls out of various cleaning supplies and oranges, who did nothing but make weapons and make plans of escape to steal gaurd towers m-4's with leathal amunition. most of the detainees wouldnt even try to escape because they were sunni extreamists and that would leave them in a primary shia region. when they tried to escape is was to try and murder american and iraqi gaurds.
This place was a fucking joke! Couple mortar attacks and thats it. First most these detainees were innocent. Not to forget some of them were HVT;s. A lot of stuff has changed since this was taken. As part of the Guard Force now, I can tell you for a fact that a response like this was most definitely necessary back in the day. Detainees were very ridiculous. But now we have them in a more locked down secure area that they dont have the chance to do what they use to. Camp Bucca is soon to shut down and all detainees wil be transferred soon. Thanks to all from the past who made this possible. Wish you could be here to see it close!
Chances are that everyone commenting on this has someone within a hundred miles from them who has a loved one that was killed or wounded by one of those stone-throwing insurgents behind the fence. I'm sorry we fired plastic non-lethal rounds at the innocent detainees when they were ttrying to stone soldiers and escape- I'm sorry that soldiers laughed when the detainees were knocked to the ground with a plastic projectile and received a nice welt to remind them not to riot -
The soldiers can either run and allow the insurgents to scale the fences and escape or they can quell the riot. The soldiers respond according to rules of engagement and fire non-lethal projectiles at the detainees who are trying to stone the soldiers to death. The soldiers are using plastic pellets from shotguns and are employing flash-bangs (noise makers). Maybe thay shouldn't laugh when they hit the terrorist with the plastic- they might be a little frustrated after a year of this crap.
Let me explain this day, any many more like it, for all of you who think you know what you see here. On this particular day the detainees (captured insurgents) were rioting because they got cigarette rations cut after several attempted escapes. The deatinees, (approx. 700 in each compound) began attacking soldiers with cinder blocks, stones, sling shots, batteries, and even make-shift fire bombs. This wasn't always how things went. I worked with Air Force in the prison and there were riots, but nothing like this where guys are laughing and cheering about hurting detainees. I was there from 06 to 08. It was illegal to bring any sort of camera into the TIF without TIF Commander approval. The previous comment stating that the video taken above is against military law, is absolutely correct. You needed written authority from the TIF Commander, and further authroty from TF-134 to take any sort of pictures and use them in the public domain.
Regardless, the second order effect of this posting simply shows what it was like somedays, but probably not anymore.
For those of you heading to a detainment center. This video and any other video takin inside the TIFF will get you time in Prison. There are no camera's allowed in these areas. This type of conduct is unexcusable. Showing small parts of these activites never show the entire story and give the wrong impression. This also allows the enemy to see how things are done, what the inside looks like. This is a serious crime and one that will be adressed. DO NOT TAKE VIDEO INSIDE THE TIFF!

When my unit went to Bucca, the radicals told the rest of the prison population that MPs had torn up some Korans, and they had made sling shots that were launching pieces of cinder block through triple pane glass and lodging into sheetrock walls. Basically, Bucca is a hellhole.

I was there 2006 through 2008. As a medic I responded to nearly every riot. For those who weren't there there are very strict guidelines against lethal force and everything you see in this video are either rubber shotgun rounds or rubber grenades. They sting and can break the skin, even cause loss of eye sight, but a holocaust it is not. There has not been a detainee death due to Americans in atleast 2 or 3 years. What the detainees do to eachother in the name of religion is quite inhuman.

I work for a local police department in Georgia. I served in Iraq with 101st Airborne, during 2003 (the initial invasion) 237th INF HHC RANGER SCOUT Platoon. I was an E-6 when I got out, so when the SFC asked where is my E-6, i WAS THINKING "I would have hated to been him". I currently have a fellow officer at this camp now and hope he comes home as safe as I did to his family.
I seem to remember being told that we aren't allowed to tape or share stuff from within the TIF. Aside from that, that day brings back memories for me....

@jaiitup Apparently you didn't read the section that authorized the use of video cameras for these purposes? Riots, Prisoner Extracts, etc. The videos are used at a later time for higher authority and and legal issues that may/will arise as a result of riots. We used video/digital cameras all the time when searching rooms/tents just for the purpose of covering our asses.
Of course Joe with an unauthorized camera isn't going to be filming like he is George Lucas and just walking around.

while i deff agree that this is a major opsec violation, i can tel you first hand that when they would riot it was not a joke. those are not just "mud rocks" they are sand mixed with chia tea that when dried is harder than rock and perfectly round and great for shooting with sings and sligshots. and most of the time (at least in the compound i worked) they would put pieces of razor wire in them before they dried so they were razor balls. you also dont see the fire balls they made in this...

these were not just "inocent iraqis" these were murderers, and bomb makers that could make napalm like fire balls out of various cleaning supplies and oranges, who did nothing but make weapons and make plans of escape to steal gaurd towers m-4's with leathal amunition. most of the detainees wouldnt even try to escape because they were sunni extreamists and that would leave them in a primary shia region. when they tried to escape is was to try and murder american and iraqi gaurds.

A lot of stuff has changed since this was taken. As part of the Guard Force now, I can tell you for a fact that a response like this was most definitely necessary back in the day. Detainees were very ridiculous. But now we have them in a more locked down secure area that they dont have the chance to do what they use to. Camp Bucca is soon to shut down and all detainees wil be transferred soon. Thanks to all from the past who made this possible. Wish you could be here to see it close!

The soldiers can either run and allow the insurgents to scale the fences and escape or they can quell the riot. The soldiers respond according to rules of engagement and fire non-lethal projectiles at the detainees who are trying to stone the soldiers to death. The soldiers are using plastic pellets from shotguns and are employing flash-bangs (noise makers). Maybe thay shouldn't laugh when they hit the terrorist with the plastic- they might be a little frustrated after a year of this crap.

Let me explain this day, any many more like it, for all of you who think you know what you see here. On this particular day the detainees (captured insurgents) were rioting because they got cigarette rations cut after several attempted escapes. The deatinees, (approx. 700 in each compound) began attacking soldiers with cinder blocks, stones, sling shots, batteries, and even make-shift fire bombs. This wasn't always how things went. I worked with Air Force in the prison and there were riots, but nothing like this where guys are laughing and cheering about hurting detainees. Let alone in a video. Unfortunately, I do see where the guys would get frustrated enough to enjoy this kind of stuff. But people get hurt. Not a lot of cheering the day one of the compounds got hit by a mortar. No celebrating then, huh?

I was there from 06 to 08. It was illegal to bring any sort of camera into the TIF without TIF Commander approval. The previous comment stating that the video taken above is against military law, is absolutely correct. You needed written authority from the TIF Commander, and further authroty from TF-134 to take any sort of pictures and use them in the public domain.
Regardless, the second order effect of this posting simply shows what it was like somedays, but probably not anymore.

For those of you heading to a detainment center. This video and any other video takin inside the TIFF will get you time in Prison. There are no camera's allowed in these areas. This type of conduct is unexcusable. Showing small parts of these activites never show the entire story and give the wrong impression. This also allows the enemy to see how things are done, what the inside looks like. This is a serious crime and one that will be adressed. DO NOT TAKE VIDEO INSIDE THE TIFF!

Of course this was not granted to just anyone, one had to get written consent from Viper Control which took all about 10 min and then presto your new title was "Camp Bucca HIstorian". All video and pictures were then reviewed by Viper, which made this video LEGAL. Do you seriously think that no one saw this camera out in the open?

When my unit went to Bucca, the radicals told the rest of the prison population that MPs had torn up some Korans, and they had made sling shots that were launching pieces of cinder block through triple pane glass and lodging into sheetrock walls. Basically, Bucca is a hellhole.

I was there 2006 through 2008. As a medic I responded to nearly every riot. For those who weren't there there are very strict guidelines against lethal force and everything you see in this video are either rubber shotgun rounds or rubber grenades. They sting and can break the skin, even cause loss of eye sight, but a holocaust it is not. There has not been a detainee death due to Americans in atleast 2 or 3 years. What the detainees do to eachother in the name of religion is quite inhuman.

I work for a local police department in Georgia. I served in Iraq with 101st Airborne, during 2003 (the initial invasion) 237th INF HHC RANGER SCOUT Platoon. I was an E-6 when I got out, so when the SFC asked where is my E-6, i WAS THINKING "I would have hated to been him". I currently have a fellow officer at this camp now and hope he comes home as safe as I did to his family.
