  • laptop battery gauges aren't always accurate i once used a gateway laptop with windows xp it once said it had 2 minutes of battery left but one second later it died and i had to charge it up.

  • i believe a year later they released the same laptop but with a color screen.

  • @wescoolya The first color powerbook was the 165c released in 1993.

  • Hey, I hace a 170 with a problem I've never seen or heard of. Can I send it to you and maybe you diagnose it?

  • I've seen your more recent video about restoring these old PowerBooks and today a question occurred to me. I wonder if in 20 years time people will be restoring present day MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers and will they potentially run into some of the are related issues you had when you restored these computers apart from batteries not charging?

  • Another Mac with the hawaiian death chimes

The Startup is same as:Mac Color Classic, Mac Color Classic II, Macintosh Quadra 700 and etc.

  • ive got a 1991 powerbook 140 thats broken, how do you fix the hinges?

  • Good old memories or what, I had of one of these along with some other ones incl.the thinner ones that slides into a dock or something(I used to think that was pretty cool system). I don't think I would wanna own them again but it's kinda heart warming to see some vintage machines still taken good care of like this.

  • I was thinking of saving the documents to a floppy and put it into a modern computer and print it, do they still do the thing where they rebuild the cases and make the batteries like new

  • I have a powerbook 150 in perfect condition, only problem is it has a dead battery. Im going to be using it for school

  • @Randomreviews53 For school? In what way? They make decent word processors, but that's about it... you'll have to save everything as a .TXT document and feed it to a modern computer if you ever hope to print anything. As for batteries, I'm sorry, but all the good ones are gone! all that remains are some poorly made remanufactured batteries... and they are HORRIBLE!

  • @Randomreviews53 just get a pc. they are CHEAP

  • @iToasterman i had one once for a year............. let me tell what it was like. Slow, Laggy, and after a year of normal use... BSOD. That's why I now have a 2.5 ghz Mac Mini with 500 GB HDD and it runs perfectly (btw my pc i had was newer, it was a IBM Thinkpad.)

  • @Randomreviews53 If it was slow and laggy, you did something wrong. as i've had pentium 2's at 226 mhz get on the web with windows xp full install and run smoothly. BSOD is also a user error. never got one with windows seven except when i installed a bad driver

  • wow its amazing how it is still works after 19 years ='}

  • where can i get one for chep in prise wise i want one

  • @mraiwa1000 You can either buy a cheap one for $15 that has broken screen hinges, or you can buy my fully-restored unit for $100 plus shipping. Mine was repaired using one of the last known brand-new display housings left.

  • @mraiwa1000 got my 150 4 35 dollars.

  • @mrparrot234 Neat, so hows that going to help me?

  • @mraiwa1000 Just sayin' calm down.

  • @mrparrot234 I don't need to calm down I'm tried. :(

  • My old IBM thinkpad has the old fold down feet

  • I have a chance to buy one of these in perfect condition for 50bucks with some extras and software, how much are they worth?

  • @hanksranger About $25. Seriously, the collector's market is not what it used to be. Even though it's "mint," it's still going to have damaged screen hinge mounts (check out my other powerbook 170 video, just search for it on my channel, it outlines the common hidden damage you'll find in these).

  • I have a PowerBook 100 I'm most likely going to smash soon. I lost the AC Adapter. Oh well.

  • @Misstersack I would first try selling it on eBay, those original 100s are getting hard to find.

  • How do you install games on it???

  • @Crabbapplestudios That's a VERY loaded question... do you have any specific questions?!?

  • @bbishoppcm u don't under stand my floppy drive keep on saying it can't read any of my disk ho do i fix that besides bying a new floppy drive??

  • @Crabbapplestudios What type of machine were these floppy disks formatted on? Are they readable in any other computer? Have you tried formatting a disk on this "defective" drive and reading it on another computer?

  • @bbishoppcm try formatting them on the floppy drive and half way done it says it defective and it wasn't defective before i put it in the machine im using is a Apple Powerbook 150

  • Even in old times Apple had annoyingly glossy screens.

  • It's unbelievable how fast that Mac boots ! The PW 170 could run with 7.6.1.

  • I just got a mint Powerbook 180c today and don't have the OS Boot disk. I was wondering what OS you would recommend and a possible place I could get one? Thanks

  • So (BLEEP) pissed off. I was cleaning my jobs storage and I found this laptop in a box GREAT condition after the place hasn't been cleaned up after 15 years. Then this guy screamed OMG A MACINTOSH LAPTOP! HEY BOSS CAN I TAKE IT? HE'S LIKE YES TAKE IT :). I was like AHHHHHHHHH STUPID BLEEP.. I could of taken of these :(

  • lol i forgot about these things!

  • this laptop was $4500 !! when it came out lol thats more than their 12 core machine lol

  • I just got a 150 for $20 but it has the back bezel issue you described, do you still gave the replacement

  • I have one of these. It makes a nice drink coaster.

  • i got a power book 150 still working but the screen hinges are damaged

  • I got one of these about a year ago but the battery wouldn't hold a charge so I had it on the charger and was just checking it out, and I royally screwed up and stepped on the charger cable and it came out and shut the computer off. Then I turned it on and it had the floppy with the question mark so I got some install disks but it just hung on the install screen so i think i really screwed up the hard drive, but I don't know where the computer is now

  • I just got mine, its like new, only problem is, I dont have a ac adaptor, i need to get one, I'm hoping, because it hasnt been used for years that the battery wont need replacing, how do i remove the battery from it?

  • What an amazing machine, hopefully I'll be getting one soon, for FREE

  • that is the fastest booting computer i have ever seen and its not even ssd

  • these speakers are better than my 2007 asus! i miss real speakers in laptops, i

have an old ibm thinkpad i dont now the year though it needs a new floppy drive i have a boot disk but i cant use it without a drive!

  • I really like the intro music in Carmon Sandiago. That laptop has a good speaker, it's quite loud, maybe not as good as the speakers in the MacBook or MacBook Pro, but it's better than other laptop speakers I've heard.

  • wow green screen

  • Used to have a Powerbook 145. Loved it for wordprocessing, using clarisworks and wordperfect.

  • So old, but yet, it looks so new. Maybe it was the way you fixed it up.

  • I miss trackballs! I wish they still did an option with them. Can't stand trackpads.

  • Ah, Broderbund Software, reminds me of my Atari 800XL days. :)

  • Hello,

Thanks for the video. If you have a minute, may I trouble you to point me to a powerbook 170 resource for specs and such... I'm trying to power mine up and don't know if it will work without a battery, or with a dead battery (it came with one, but I don't want to use it portable, and will be happy if it works just off the cord).

Thanks for your time, in advance.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hi! Thanks for watching. The 1xx series will power up in all scenarios you listed. If yours fails to turn on, try sticking a paper clip through the reset port on the back.

  • @bbishoppcm I tried doing that and it didnt work :(

  • @bbishoppcm I have a powerbook 165, and it will not power up. the screen shows vertical lines, when i power it on. please help.

  • Great job in restoring this classic machine!

  • Loooooove the startup Chime

  • damm lol

  • I remember using a powerbook 190cs in 1998. It was quite a nice machine, much newer than this one, it had a colour screen, and I believe it ran at about 66 MHZ. I didn't know Apple were using that C Major Chord startup sound in 1992, I thought they used that at a later time.

  • whioa!!!!!!!!!!! so old

  • lol @ the keyboard

  • Hey there, great video first and foremost. Thank you for posting this video. I have just begun my journey of restoring a powerbook 160 :) I want to get a fresh HD and reload the OS. Where can I find.. or what kind of HD should I be look for? Is it possible to find brand-new ones still being made or in dead-stock? And as far as OS's go. Which version runs best on these guys? Thanks a lot man hope to hear back from you.

  • sweet!

  • Is there much demand for these computers, I might be able to get a couple of them but I know little about Apple computers and therefore would not be able to appreciate them.

  • nice what size is the hard drive?

  • nice powerbook. im getting my new Mint cond powerbook 190 it has 16mb ram and a 500mb harddrive. i will video the first boot up when it arrives in a couple days

  • Hey, that's a great vintage PowerBook. I have a 165c, which is newer than yours by about a year, but still classifies as vintage. Check it out in my profile.

  • Your video is in the "Related Videos" system 7.5 was a great OS.
