@jeremandre i own a 07 monte ss 5.5-5.7 0 to 60 with a one foot roll out 6 seconds flat from a dead stop is the best these cars can do 4.5 your talking out of your ass there fast but not that fast we would shit on a camaro ss if we were dat quick
I was neck and neck with one of these last night from a red light.. I only won bc I'm awd... If the guy was rwd it would have been my "i got raped" story.. Cmon we all have one lol that's the only reason I'm watching this vid bc last night I was like holy hell those are faster than I thought
I have to say I miss my SS but with gas prices I had to say bye was fun to drive thats for sure plenty of punch. Only thing that the car was lacking was stability control other wise I would have kept it for sure even with snow tires I was scared as hell in the snow with this it didn't feel secure in snow. I do miss it you lil 4 bangers don't have a chance when it comes to a straight line race.
I own a Black on Black rim's with chrome lip 2006 Monte Carlo SS has my weekend driver or 2nd car. Check out my track vid's. I've never taken the SS with the new and lighter rim's and with the new MSD set up and tire's.
2:17, "DonRome" strut bars handle this issue with ease especially with lowering "SSC springs" which I recommend on a lot of vehicles.......this package total: $269.00 ;-)
I know this is a weak topic but I know they're off with that 18mpg in the city. I want to get this car in the near future unless I can afford a G8 : ) What are you guys actually getting with these Monte SS's in town? I'm just curious. Any mods helping with performance and mileage? Only Monte owners need to respond!
@mycity313 - my overall lifetime mileage is just under 20 total ... taking off from lights with a light foot will net you 5-10 mpg until you hit 40 or 50 ... once it kicks into 4 cyl mode its possible to get upwards of 28-32 depending on intake/ exhaust/ tire pressure and everything else ... last long drive i did was near 1000 miles from GA to IL and from my calculations i got around 28-30 mpg for the whole trip ... stock intake and worn out tires
@shaunkorn Haha.... I just noticed we have da same name. So what is your insurance rates looking like? I'll be 25 February 2011 but I'm worried about the cost of insurance.
@shaunkorn Not bad! But that beast uses premium doesn't it? You never answered my question about the insurance rates though. I may end up with a Impala SS here so because I can't find any Monte SS's.
now take into consideration the cobalt is also a very nice car its a mini monte that can ride along side with no problem. but you have to know the feeling of the V8 and chasis to appreciate these kinds of cars. without a doubt the generations from buick, pontiac, chevy, and oldsmobile things just got better in 2005 to 2008 short lived but good while lasted and will soon come back. just watch. but thank you gm for making such fine automobiles and bringing back true american feeling.
i cant believe all these people comparing a vehicle that is aimed to a more mature and executive type of person to brands and cars that aim mostly to young car buyers. that is why chevy made the cobalt because it hauls ass from a little 4 cylinder and matches these V8s come on you just cant go wrong with the feeling of a V8 its so much more refined to anything shorter than 6 cylinders. just look at the generations of the monte and it has come a long way. its a really nice car.
point is the monte carlo is a big coupe capable of hauling 4-5 people in complete comfort without having to listen to the awful noise of "vtek kicking in yo" civic si's are driven by boy racers, case in point i have an 87 ss bone stock with flowmasters and i killed my friends 08 si, the fwd and low torque just cant get off the line. Honda owners talk alot but when you look at it, its just a civic, make it rwd or awd and ill show interest
But the difficulty of FWD is evidenced in this SS MORE than any Honda, chiefly because of the SS's big boy torque compared to the lack thereof in the Honda.
It's hard to get these LS4 W-Bodies off the line on good dry pavement. Anything other than that is basically impossible.
@SIASJJ14 Even BEFORE I overrided the governor chip I could still tap out the cluster at 140mph,with the RPM's still going, till about 145mph-150ish before the governor chip would engage.
@SIASJJ14 The LT models were limited to 113mph if I am correct. Like the Impala they are also limited to 113mph. Idk if its just the LT models or what but every LT Impala i've driven was limited to 113
5.3 liter v8...and only 303 hp?.....only GM could put out such a hp/liter FAIL...how can honda squeeze 201 hp outta a 2.2 liter ...but GM only 303 out of 5.3 liters?...anyone care to explain?
because it's a OHV pushrod engine, is basically the reason why. because of that though you have a lot of torque, which a DOHC VTEC Honda engine is lacking.
@keviiinn this car would have been so nice if it was rwd what a shame... and my prelude 2.2 doch vtec is not bad 190 hp 0-60 in 6.3 and 1/4 mile in 14.6 ...and i still like the older monte carlo ss its one of my favorite cars this new one is ok but there is nothing special about it... if it where rwd it would be another story
@keviiinn Let's not forget the Mustang Cobra from 1996-2004 was a DOHC V8. Made 305HP from 1996-2002, in 2003 and 2004 it made 390HP in a S/C V8 DOHC 4.6.
it doesnt rev that high, less noise, and the 2.2 vtec only gets 139 tq. Its just a better engine for day to day, the civic si engine is more sports car, more throw a fart can and scare the neighbors car.
agreed they lack torque...what u dont understand is ..that you cant put over 300 hp in a fwd car like a monte shitzo...and expect it to put ALL the power to the ground....honda uses limited slip diffs for its higher powered engines in their fwd cars.......take note and learn about balance..power/weight ratio...and not just dumping a big v8 in a car....newber
CASE IN POINT....hondas si hits 60 in about 7.0 seconds....with a 2.0 engine....5.3 v8 monte carlo in 6.0......with a few bolt ons the si could match that pitiful 5.3 v8 ....
civics work with small 4 cylinder engines....a supercharged rsx type s would leave this pig in the absolute dust......ive seen I4's beat v8's all the time bro.....v8's are not beast
oh yeah sure thats why all the fastest cars in the world have higher cylinder counts than 4? I dont even think there are 6 cyl super cars (supra doesnt count).
I'm not being biased either, I drive a cobalt SS wich is a 4 banger, but still theres no replacement for displacement.
@StevoElsupremo i agree..no REP for DIS.....but thats not saying highout put I4's with twin turbos' wont be crazy fast while also being excellent at cornering ...you wont find that in mustang Gt's...gay camaro's...or most other heavy hog v8'a....
true, but look at ferrari, lamborghini, audi R8, Chev Corvette, Maseratti, gumpert, BMW///M, etc, all 8,10,12 cyliinder engines and yet they still dominate corners.
@StevoElsupremo again..i agree ...but look at a lotus exige....only a simple toyota 1.8 cylinder supercharged and it is fast as shit in the straights.....and rip your face off cornering ability.....goes to show u dont have to have insanely big engines to master straight and cornering.....weight to hp is extremely important...hence a lotus..as a perfect example
@StevoElsupremo only downfalls to the lotus are tootsie roll creature comforts...bad ingress/egress and sticker price....its an AMAZING CAR...but....you are still paying for a 1.8 liter toyota engine.....with a supercharger.....its just too much to charge 50,000 for that....even with posted BEAST numbers....but hell ppl still buy them!!!
ive drove and ridden in a vr4 mitsu....TWIN SCROLL turbo's..+ v6 .......and ive ridden in a rsx type - S .....which only had a high out put I4...let me tell you...if it wre my money....the type S would be in the garage 7 days a week.....but the vr4 does pull hard.....
Honda however has no idea what torque is. 200 HP 4 cylinder... and 130 ft-lbs of torque. yea. I'm scared. meanwhile, that V8 has 323 ft-lbs of torque and shoves you back into the seat when the pedal is floored.

But Monte Carlos are still awesome nonetheless.
