  • @SpookyAction123 Couldn't agree more... I've always wondered why Omar and the other musicians in this band tolerate Cedric's often sub standard live vocals.

As you've said, on record, Cedric is great. But live he really lets the band down and to a certain extent spoils the songs for me.

  • @borntohula 5:55 I think he meant these high notes, which he did sing right. But yes it's a fact that Cedric is not a good live singer. He could solve this problem by writing and singing songs in a lower key

  • This is satanist music. Check the name of the song and the lyrics. It just makes me think of lucifer

  • Omar is an underrated and absolutely genius composer...I dont think he gets the credit he deserves

  • RIDICULOUS VOCALS!!!!

  • this is part two fuckin liar!

  • love this

  • que banda horrivel!

  • too bad the sound quality on this is awful : (

  • @heavyharpoon89 Nicely said, I totally agree :)

    But who's this drummer?

  • @TerjSankian I think it's Blake Fleming.

  • @Watiberto

    of course it's Fleming.

  • This is probably my favourite Mars Volta song, it's a masterpiece. If you listen to it closely enough, you can hear that everything flows and makes sense.

  • what kind of music are they sing? they know that on the tetragrammaton is write the name of GOD?Do you know that? is a fact C:

  • @LORD0fPEACE You learn english before comments here, huga-huga.

  • @pacocrowley i allready commented so if you are so smart and had understood my question answer me, if you don t , kiss my hundubembodovici how that i wrote ? gone listening Queen much better than this noise, the truth really hurt honey

  • @LORD0fPEACE Your answers: you can't "sing" a type of music, they're playing prog rock, mixed with jazz, at their own style. Yes, we all know that Tetragrammaton means "the one of 4 word" or Deus, God. You don't even bothered to read all the lyrics, they aren't talking about God. Queen better than this? they play a different type of music. Get back to school Timmy.

  • @pacocrowley Johnny B good man , and the name of God is translated i AM not deus or god friend :D

  • @LORD0fPEACE If you prefer Queen over this, then you are a failure of genetics, plain and simple.

And while you're at it, going to school again and learning proper punctuation would be a good idea.

P.S. Your "God" sucks. If this all loving, all powerful God actually existed, then there would be no such thing as murder, genocide, and molestation. And there sure as hell wouldn't be people who didn't have ears to appreciate TMV. Enjoy your Freddies and your Mercuries.

  • @wmotamedi I prefer Queen, but these guys are good to listen to as well, especially when thinking about Jesus. A very spiritual band I might add.

  • @wmotamedi oh man, I love Queen, but it just sounds like these guys are singing straight from the scripture. praise be to Him and all His glory! He has blessed them!

  • TMV is pink floyd but rock. sorry. i had to compare it... and its true

  • yiiiiiiiiiija!

  • Can we not try to find which band is better: A or B, or dwell who sounds like who, and rather, simply focus on how fucking well Cedric is nailing his high notes. Christ.

  • @joshstanley56 But comparing is fun, deal with it.

TMV are like King Crimson meets Led Zeppelin meets flamenco music.

  • @FlyingFuckstorm except without the flamenco.

  • @joshstanley56 "simply focus on how fucking well Cedric is nailing his high notes"

Nailing it? If you mean it sounds like he's nailing a cat to a cross, then yes.

But seriously, clean out your ears. He's all over the shop, as he often is in a live situation. Cedric is great on album. But live? Very rarely.

  • whos the drummer? never seen him before

  • @everymoss09 Blake Fleming.... Jon Theodore and Fleming are my two favorite contemporary drummers.

  • @S8OR And Cedric's lyrics are more similar to Peter Sinfield's (King Crimson) or Peter Gabriel's (Genesis) obscure, cryptic lyrics then Robert Plant's simple, straight forward lyrics.

  • Original isn't always good. Oops.

  • Stop comparing TMV to other bands. The Mars Volta = The Mars Volta. Period.

  • VERGA! estan cabrones

  • Holy shit what?????

That was my shit right there son!!

  • Great performance seen them live

3 times & they always play different

Shows been waiting 4 a new album tho!

  • Led Zeppelin ripped off a lot of songs. TMV are original and come up with their own stuff. Enough said.

  • I doubted hard that they could pull this off live and i never been so glad to be proved wrong!

  • Is Cedric reading the lyrics off of a laptop?

  • @12toedfeet I wouldn't be surprised what with the insane, obscure, tongue-twisting shit that he spouts.

  • @12toedfee The Dregtones, At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta (DeLoused, Frances & Amputecture) Lirics are A LOT.

  • @12toedfeet

probly man. at the last show i saw him at he had pieces of paper on the floor. and they were playing all new shit. he just likes to know his words. hell, i like him to know his words

  • Definitely prog. A little bit of Latin. Really just genre-defying though.

  • EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC THESE GUYS MADE FOR US ALL... QUIT YER BITCHIN

  • yeah but wasnt Mozart kind of a rebell? personally... musically... so maybe in the world of us tady, Mozart would have decided to make progressive rock as complex as Mars Volta.

  • @Semperlacrima Fuck Mozart, to put it nicely...

  • Who is the drummer?

  • @TheMerksquad Blake Fleming

  • This doesn't get enough praise imo. Amputechture is fuckin amazing.. and this is prolly my favorite TMV song. Boner inducing stuff all round.

  • it really took me some time to get into the mars volta. Now they're one of my favourite bands. they're improvisation adn songwriting is off this planet.

  • just stop writing these comparisons between them and other bands. they sound like the mars volta.

  • The Mars Volta = better than led zepplin

  • @ObertSchmitz

    your a retard.

  • c'mon guys u always talk about how floyd and led zep influenced probably the greatest band in our generation! u forgot about mc5 and king crimson

  • @boygalak Yea and I hear frank zappa all around but most great muscians like zappa. All in all they sound like the mars volta, very unique but I hear zappa's influence overall. It's like an ochestra with guitars, bass, etc. I love :)

  • Cedric at 6:02...UNREAL.

  • Comment removed

  • hnnnng this song

  • Anyone notice that Juan has TWICE as many pedals as Omar? I see Omar using his pedals all the time, but I never see Juan using any of his.

  • have i commentened on thid lovely video yet? lol

  • This band is kinda like:

"Everybody watch Omar!" which seems to work out perfectly.

  • This band is kinda like

    "Everybody just watch Omar!"

  • i dont like this music

  • @Kapojos

Then why did you come here and comment let alone look up The Mars Volta, fucking idiot -_-..

  • @XxShindouxX because a friend of mine likes this music and i wanted to listen to it again to find out if there maybe could something i can also like in it. but after listening and listening, i just still dont really think they are so fantastic

  • @Kapojos an opinion is an opninion right, but their musica talent is very much higher then most bands there r today, but that doesnt mean u cant like those other bands..... no ones stopping u man!

  • @ImaFez some people have more talent than others and ofcourse i like to hear/see people with developed talents, but thats just 1 quality. this group is talented, but thats (in my opinion) also end of the story, just shared talent. you can admire how well they play and of great compositions and stuff, but thats just musical tools, great art transforms itself into a significant vision which is not about the medium anymore, but about telling us something about life, something that REALLY matters

  • @Kapojos damn man! i learn mroe from talking to ppl on youtube then i do in friggin school!

  • @Kapojos i would say you don't like good music, but you favorited a Radiohead song so i'll let this slide.

  • @RomeSkateFoSho hehe, i like good music, but i like it even more if its more than good. if it goes beyond music and in my opinion this band just stays music. i want to hear music that turns into art, poetry!

  • so this is what LSD sounds like. Gorgeous.

  • The guitar at 1:30 is truly sublime. One of my biggest influences and a genuinely amazing band.

  • The guitar at 1:30 is truly sublime. One of my biggest influences and a genuinely amazing band.

  • good music good musicians=The mars volta

  • Can someone tell Cedric we don't give a shit about his stupid dance moves

  • @ahringar

Listen dumbass, he's not doing his "stupid" dance moves to please you or anyone. He does it because he feels the music and likes dancing to it, if you don't like it just listen to the studio version or open a new tab on your browser. There are also people who like how he dances, he shows passion during their performance. Would you rather have them just standing there all boring and dull? I sure as hell wouldn't, this is what makes them unique.

  • @XxShindouxX

You make me laugh. Look, there's a difference between being "feeling" the music and being idiotically ostentatious about it. I might feel different about it if perhaps he didn't do the same ridiculous dances moves to EVERY song. He's obviously very talented but this is clearly done out of some need for attention just like your asinine post. Also, You don't know WHY i was watching this vid so take your advice about how i watch it and shove it up your ass you pretentious douchebag.

  • @ahringar

Wow, I like how you pamper your comment with all these big words to make yourself feint the need of intelligence that just isn't there. So what if he does the same dance moves to EVERY song ( which he clearly doesn't) he has been dancing to music since ATD-I not just Volta. Also to rectify your point of the same dance move argument. . His dancing here is actually kind of blasé compared to others. SEE I can use big words too mang!

  • I think Zappa would at least give one of his famous grins to these guys wherever he is now, may he RIP.

  • Cedric looks like Ian Gillan!

  • Easily One of Cedrics Best - His Vocal Range is Incredible on This Song.

  • Why does every faggot on the internet have to bring up justin bieber. Stop sucking cocks.

And don't upvote this you brainless shits.

  • @MichaelNRoll I had a rant about the same thing last week. That shit ain't music. Just switch it off and stop promoting it.

  • Anyone else miss Adrian Terrazas-Gonzalez? Fuck, I do.

  • @obeytheory Yes, and Paul :( They can't really play anything from this album without them

  • I do, very much so.

  • @obeytheory who is that?

  • @obeytheory he was so important :/

  • dam. that songs is so fuckin badass everytime i hear it. makes me feel good to say im from texas too, thats for sure. i cant wait till they come to play here in Houston again. anyone know when that is?

  • Bestial !!!.De los mejores temas de este grupo ,y de los mejores temas que conozco.

  • The Mars Volta are one of the few acts out there that make me believe there is still hope for music in generations to come...

  • Is that Omar Rodriguez jammin on the guitar ?

  • @ldotwise22you got it

  • The Mars Volta = Todays Led Zeppelin.

  • @JackNeedles they seem more pink floydish...but the zeppelin comparison is very strong rooted.

  • @JackNeedles i dont see or hear any hint of led zeppelin in the mars volta rather than cedric´s high pitch voice, i´d say more like frank zappa and king crimson with a lil of genesis but on steroids and gone outer space, love zeppelin tho

  • @JackNeedles Zep + Floyd + King Crimson

  • @JackNeedles id say those spacey moody bits remind a lot of tago mago from CAN

  • more like king crimson

  • @JackNeedles what no :c that's apples and oranges bro

  • @JackNeedles sort of...

  • Comment removed

  • @JackNeedles More like The Mars Volta=today's King Crimson

  • mi pilin

  • I'm still amazed at how a piece like this can even be written. True art.

  • @jtizz711 im pretty sure if mozart was still alive alzheimer was the less disease he would had xD (sorry mi english im uruguayan)

  • @jtizz711 im pretty sure if mozart was still alive alzheimer was the less disease he would had xD (sorry mi english im uruguayan)

  • incredible, just incredible.

mastodon, queens of the stone age and all that are awesome, but i cant think of a more original band in recent years.

  • I came.

  • Omar's like the composer leading them all in this wierd play, I love there music so much it's a trip! It's like organized chaos, or "A donkey choking on a waffle."

  • Lol Ikey looks like the Jamaican dude from Futurama in this video

  • Juan's bass sounds so amazing, with the dark star pickups.. just great

  • So this is kinda what music would sound like if mozart were alive today

  • @jtizz711 Not even.

  • @jtizz711 No, because Mozart wasn't a genius at all, his music was/is very simple. You'd better compare the Mars Volta to Bach.

  • @jtizz711 Mozart is boring and repetitive, he aint got shit on this.

  • @tonyAJ420 mozart is boring? listen to his requiem and his symphony # 25 in G minor. It takes an unearthly amount of talent to write whole symphonies for multiple instruments in changing time signatures and changing keys while sounding good...you know nothing about music if you can consider the masters of music "boring." Grow up

  • @jtizz711 let's not forget that he also did this when playbacks didn't exist.

  • @jtizz711 which is genius

  • @jtizz711 I have actually i do listen to the classics. I just feel Beethoven would be a much more apt comparison.

  • @jtizz711 i couldnt be more agree

  • @jtizz711 Mozart? How is Mozart even close to this!? This couldn't be further removed from Mozart.

  • @subsamadhi a modern mozart. nitwit

  • @jtizz711 Modern Mozart? Wouldn't a modern classical music composer be more similar to Mozart that a guy who patterns his music off of 70's progressive rock and Latin sounds?

  • @subsamadhi your missing the point. music isn't just bound to a genre.

  • @jtizz711 that isn't a point. Mozart was a classical composer. THIS guy makes modern progressive rock. There ARE composers alive today who would sound like Mozart. This guy doesn't. Your statement is stupid.

  • @subsamadhi your ignorance compels me to push you off of a bridge. There are no classical composers today that sound like mozart. not even close. Do you know why? because all of the geniuses in modern music play Jazz. Have you ever heard of jazz fusion? oh? THATS WHAT THIS IS!!!

  • @jtizz711 That doesn't change the fact that there are composers today making classical music. They would take any comparison to Mozart over this guy. Your statement is stupid. This isn't jazz fusion. These guys aren't anywhere near jazz music. You should seriously consider getting your head checked.

  • @subsamadhi dude what the fuck are you talking about? this is jazz fusion. the best jazz fusion band in the past 20 years. just because there is no trumpet, does not mean its not jazz. the modern great minds of music play jazz.

  • @jtizz711 do me a fucking favor: type in the words "jazz fusion" into the search engine and tell me if you find anything on youtube that sounds remotely similar to this. These guys are closer to fucking King Crimson than Mozart. You are stupid. Deal with it.

  • @jtizz711 Oh, and by the way. If these guys actually were jazz fusion, they aren't even that good at the genre. I would rather listen to just about any jazz fusion over these guys, if they actually DID play it. Oh, and classical music IS intellectually superior to jazz. Your ideas need work, son.

  • @subsamadhi fuck off douche bag

  • @jtizz711 hey, I have a question for you: have you ever seen the Mars Volta live? I have. They aren't a fucking jazz fusion band. Get over it. They play rock music. There's no jazz involved.

  • @subsamadhi um... they play punk rock

  • @ENEMENCIO123VISION good call. They aren't jazz or whatever the fuck.....I think they are more into prog rock...but they are close to punk as well. When they were At the Drive in they aped a lot of old MC5 stuff. I guarantee you they started getting into a lot of 70's shit as well. Latin influences, like the band War and Carlos Santana. Fucking Mozart, go figure. Not even close.

  • @subsamadhi your's too as well Bro. all in all they are Fantastic at what they do. i really enjoy the Cds they have made. i guess thats my main point. Peace :)

  • @subsamadhi oh brother... get a life...

  • I'm very confused about the history of Mars Volta drummers. Jon Theodore played on De-loused, FTM, and Amputechture right? and Thomas Pridgen played on the last two. And then Dave Elitch replaced him. But whos this guy on drums?

  • @maskedcrusader yeah this guy replace jon for a short period of time. his name is blake flemming.

  • I love how they all just do their own thing, and not give a fuckkk

  • sounds like dewey cox when he was in his PCP phase lol Omar kept saying "Its not finished yet!!"

  • beautiful

  • cedric sucks. bring on the shit storm of people dissagreeing. he writes decent vocal patterns but lets be honest the mars volta is omar.

  • @Billabong368 I agree, TMV is all about Omar, he's been the sole director up to this point, but now I think he wants to change that. But I gotta say, as long as it took me to get into his voice, I really like Cedric as a frontman, and yeah he does write awesome vocal melodies, but it's a fact he can be quite shaky live sometimes.

  • @Billabong368 right I'm sure you can sing just as well if not better LOL, dude he's an incredible singer and fits perfectly with the band

  • 25 deaf and souless people saw this.. what a disgrace to be them.. =S

  • @jasonnnf Cedric obviously killed them with his voice.

  • 25 deaf and souless people saw this.. what a disgrace to be them.. =S

  • his high register is out of tune and often times has a bad pitch. and this is coming from someone that considers the mars volta one of the best bands of the day. definitely one of my favorite bands, if not my favorite. buuuttt.... i gotta be honest and he aint got no autotune nor several months in a studio to record and re record. but the rest of the bands performance is outstanding and im blown away by the sax player that pulls out the soprano sax, and flute, and percussion. hes the best!!!

  • epicsauce.

  • The Mars Volta is one of the few bands that have the talent to get away with things like naming a song "tetragrammaton." Man I love these guys.

  • The best band in existence!

  • cedric would lost that round in singstar... his high pitched notes are out of tune

  • Best song ever. :D

  • Nobody can ever even wish to dance like Omar.

  • comparing views from part 1 of tetragrammaton to part 2 is depresing

  • @magicbag6790 i know right!!!! wtf

  • ooh where can i get the sax intro part? That'd be awesome to play :D

  • I want dancing lessons from Cedric

  • @jasonnnf he got those moves from cepellin.

  • Great stuff, reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra somewhat.

  • @cjsinclair agreed.

  • why is there a white guy drumming???? no whites in The Mars Volta!!!

No offense. you guys cant dance for shit.....

  • @jerrytheman1987 he's a drummer he doesn't need to dance

  • @jerrytheman1987 no whites in the mars volta? hmm cedric has green eyes, and.. if you ask me, he does not look purple.. ;)

  • @jasonnnf he's mexican buddy :p half german or something, but mexican nonetheless :p and grew up here in el paso, texas (really more of mexico than texas though)

  • Loving Omar's funky dance at 3:44 :D

  • Music at its finest :D

  • 0:37 is the funniest part

  • omar is truly a genius, and cedric is really on. perfect performance.

  • im so wasted, so good. them rocks!

  • This isTHE perfect song, you don't get any more beautiful then this.

But i was wondering, who the hell is drumming here? He's white so i was thinking Jon Theodore, but it looks like he's balding, and Jon Theodore is only like 35.

  • @cahaleym Blake fleming

  • @cahaleym you've never seen a bald 35 year old?

  • Viva México : D
