Colin Baker was never really given a fair chance, but he was the type of actor/doctor to maybe grow on you. You did get to like him eventually let's face it. But as many fans have said, the show started to run into trouble with mediocre scripts, and the bbc screwing up the schedule. But it wasn't too bad and we did have the adorable Peri! Then came the needless hiatus. Frankly, Colin was destined to be the underrated doc, but he's getting recognition now, even if it is late.
Collin Baker was great, but ill-served with some of the scripts. Even in good stories his characterisation by the writers and costume designer was still flawed. If you don't believe me, listen to him in the audio productions he does now, he's great!
colin baker as so many apologists saying it was all against him but the blunt fact is he should never have got the role for these reasons 1 He'd already been in it a year ago in a prominent role 2 he was several years older than his predecessor 3 his performance was of an actor enjoying himself too much (a cardinal sin in acting) & 4 A curly haired actor with the surname Baker, hadn't we'd seen that before? .If everyone says Baker was treated badly why does he say he had a great time on the show
@vashna3799 I agree, that just sums up why Colin Baker was mis-cast in the role. The fans who praise the Colin Baker era, really should have a long hard look at his Doctor and his stories. They really are terrible, Doctor Who deserved to be axed in 1986 and when Slyvester Mccoy took over it became just as bad.

Out of all the Doctors Colin Baker easily drew the shortest straw, terrible scripting half of the time and being wrongfully fired in some attempt to revive the series only to weirdly put it opposite Coronation Street.
I'm glad the audio dramas exist, to give Colin Baker's Doctor the good writing and character development that would have made him such a brilliant doctor on screen.
Either way, he, Eccleston, Davison, and Smith are my favorites
@RoyalGuard503 Damn straight. Colin Baker would have been a brilliant Doctor, if Michael Grade hadn't had a major toddler attack and sabotaged the programme. So yes, it IS good that he's getting a second chance at it.
@ApocalypseNext Were you as happy as I was when Grade ate shit and admitted that Doctor Who is one of the main reasons why people are so tuned into BBC1?
@RoyalGuard503 I'd be happier if he was lynched along with JNT (for picking shit scripts, generally ballsing the whole thing up and slapping question marks on anything that held still long enough), but that will have to do.
By the time you get to "trial of a time lord" it was obvious they were trying to make it darker - and failed. Not a scratch on the dark hammer-horror era of Tom Baker. In defence of McCoy, I'd watch anything from McCoy's last two seasons (with the exception of happiness patrol, which would make even a non-diabetic sick) over any story RTD wrote. I'm stoked he brought the show back though. It was the stupid "Dr-in-love" storylines that sucked in the female viewers...to the show's detriment IMO.
@Whosader You really didn't need to include the sexist comment at the end there. Yes, RTD's writing was kind of shit but suggesting it's shit because it supposedly appeals more to women or because, again supposedly(actually, there's been female fans for as long as it's been on), more women are interested in it now is hugely offensive. If anything it drew in a teenage audience who have no appreciation for Classic Who. Take your sexist comments elsewhere, please-actually, no, just shove them.
@ashoftomorrow You misunderstood. Would I equally be viewed as sexist if I suggested that the Doctor had gorgeous female companions to draw in the dads..? I'm a huge fan of all classic Who; everyone knows that the target audience changed throughout the years. All I am asking is why RTD chose to involve storylines of the Doctor falling in love with a companion, when that concept was strictly avoided during the Hartnell-McCoy years? My opinion: to increase viewer base.
@Whosader If you said the Doctor had an attractive female companion to draw in more male viewer ship to the detriment of the show, it could be sexist but only if you meant it in the way I assumed you meant about female viewer ship, where the emphasis is on the gender that it changed for not that it changed in general- to imply that the input or interests of the gender are less valuable than the other. But I do think that I misunderstood you and I'm sorry!
@Whosader But! I don't think that romance and the slight hints of romantic love were completely avoided during the classic series! What about Romana? There's a quote somewhere from Lalla Ward that she and Tom married and thought they were in love because Romana & the Doctor were in love. I suppose I'm more of the sort to look for subtle meaning and subtext than sticking to exactly what is shown on-screen and said explicitly, though, so our experience of DW is probably pretty different.
@ashoftomorrow Fully valid points. I'm first to admit that I don't watch the show for the subtext - I just love a good story. (If not for the DVD special features, I'd still be oblivious to most of the finer aspects.) And quite possibly the Doctor & Romana were "in love" - but as you say, never said explicitly...10 and Rose..? More blatant. Except, a la Tom/Lalla, DT obviously preferred his "daughter"... but thank you - I'm glad there are still people who take the show as a whole: 1963 onwards
@ashoftomorrow Dude, I was a teenager when the new Dr Who series started, and I'm a big fan of the classic series as well; the new series got me interested and made me want to explore the rest. Take your ageist comments elsewhere, please- actually, no, just shove them.
@ApocalypseNext We're around the same age(15 in 2005) and did the same thing. I wasn't saying young people have no appreciation for Classic Who. I meant to say I think the quality of the writing may have suffered because the writers seem to want to appeal to teenagers who know very little about Classic Who- I meant that specific set of teenagers, the sort-of transient, low-key fans. Not trying to imply all young fans know nothing about Classic Doctor Who, at all! That's definitely not true!
@ashoftomorrow Oh, sorry. I thought you were another middle-aged grumpy ranting about the youth of today.
And following on from what you and the other guy were discussing above, don't forget 3 and Jo. Nothing actually happened between them, but watch The Green Death for one dumped-looking Time Lord. I think it's obvious who was the last of Jo's impressive string of disappointed men.
@LoveTimeLord Switch the nationalities and you have a truckload of "british" characters on american TV (ie the "british" potentials in the last season of Buffy, everyone in that episode of X Files with the "irish" firestarter). Maybe Peri is our form of revenge...
awesome video! colin baker has just recently provided the voice for our audio-book Kangazang! a sci-fi comedy. i dont want to spam up youre comments but it would be cool if you could have a look at some of our videos/animation and let us know what you think! thanks.
Such an underrated Doctor. I notice people say the 6th Doctor was underrated becuase of weak writing but I have also seen a lot of people say many of the stories were also underrated. It's a real shame.
Yes, Colin made a great Doctor, not so keen on him in the flesh at conventions. He's a money grabber. Other actors will sign one personal item for free, not Collin, he will sting you for a Tenner! then quickly stuff it into his little bag TAX FREE.
He won't pass wind or give you the drippings off his nose without someone paying him to do so. Thats not someone who values his fans, except as a money cow for him.
OK so the later stuff of the original series (McCoy era) was shite, but there were a couple of good episodes, it did at least have a few redeeming features.
RTDs badly written, deus ex machina, soap opera, crap has NO redeeming features at all.
@Giradius ok personal preferences aside there is a big difference here. JNT = shite ratings resulting in DR who being cancelled. DR by mccoy time generally regarded as kids show and a joke.
RTD= excellent ratings resulting in DR who becoming a cultural phenomenom again and regaining its saturday prime time slot. Bafta award winning show.
@doctorwho1982 another thing-under RTD that soap opera crap as u so called it has given DR who more female fans than ever was before in the history of the show. Just compare the dr who conventions from past to present. Good one RTD. He made dr who mainstream..not exclusive geek sci fi nerds only.
And besides, a bafta is no guarantee of quality..Ant and Dec have won a bafta, and as for cultural phenomenon..Eastenders and Big Brother are cultural phenomenon, and both are utter crap.
I personally had no problem with it being a geek thing, I am a geek, and proud of it.
It does come down to subjective taste in the end anyway, I find RTD's badly written camp and schmaltzy series to be as bad as the McCoy era stuff (maybe a little worse)
In business and TV making terms, Nu Who is good, its popular, has opened merchandising possibilities, and has a wide fan base.
But the same can be said of Little Britain, does that mean that little Britain is fantastically written comedy or does it just mean that it is lowest common denominator programming.
I don't defend the classic series out of nostalgia (I didn't get into until long after it was cancelled) I defend it because it was a better program (for the most part).
I like more sophisticated sci-fi and less mush, other people like mush and are less into sci-fi.
I don't care if girls are into it, I don't care about fancy CGI, I don't mind a few aliens have visible zips, what I do care about is good writing and strong performances (my imagination fills in the blanks).
RTDs series to me looks like its made out of all the worst of McCoys era (and the TV movie).
I think he killed Dr Who, but others think differently.
@Giradius spoken like a true nerd. Mcoys episodes are unwatchable. "happiness patrol, delta and the bannerman" Yuck .Tom bakers or pertwees made decade or so earlier are better to watch. I'm glad the millions that tune in to RTD revised dr who dont think as you, otherwise we would have no dr who to watch at all and nerds like u would just be still collecting DR WHO ausdio tapes and novels LOL Yr the monority nerd. Hope that makes u feel special LOL
Whilst I would agree that McCoy's first season as DW was pretty dire. From then onwards things improved vastly. The Curse Of Fenric, Silver Nemesis, Battlefield, Ghost Light are great DW as far as I'm concerned. As for "NuWho" I've enjoyed it vastly so far. To have DW alive & kicking once again after so long bewteen McCoy & Ecclestone is a joy to behold. Long live DW!!
@Giradius Thanks to RTD dr who is back to the glory days set in Tom Bakers heyday and "dalekmania" in the early 60's. Snobby WHO purest like you can keep collecting WHO novels and audiotapes with the other exclusive nerd sci fi snobs but theres no denying that RTD made dr who a cultural phenomenom again and elevated its status beyond "kids show" and "nerdfest" that JNT relegated it to, hence the cancellation. Nows its a bafta award winning show and only geek minorities like u think otherwise.
@Giradius probably makes yr geek ass feel special saying "I'm a pure dr who fan...oh look at me, i'm a sophisticated sci fi geek" LOL Get a girlfriend geek. Get a life. JNT sucked balls (literally and figarutively) and even in this video you hear them say that by the time colin baker became the doctor, the scripts had been dumbed down and became predictable and boring. JNT u FUCK! U killed classic DR WHO. Thank God for RTD!
@Giradius the difference is yr opinion is only yr own and that of yer exclusive club of sci fi nerd snobs who critique the nu who to make themselves feel important when if it weren't for RTD you'd still be collecting DR who audio tapes and novels. My opinion is backed by the fact that JNT was responsible for the show getting AXED, poor shit ratings, dumbed down stories (alas see video commentary) and basically shit whereas RTD has elevated DR whos status to an award winning show, great ratings
@Giradius cont..a cultural phenomenom and a hit show with more female fans than ever (across the board). It no longer belongs in the "geek only" section of entertainment. Yr little geek minority opinion means your taste is up there with JNT who sucks balls (literally and figuratively-hey dont steal my lines nerd-come up with yr own LOL), the taste that saw DR WHO ridiculed as a kids show, cancelled and sent to that TV vault in the sky-until RTD breathed new life into it.
@HimWotMustBeObeyed even in this video they say colin bakers stories under JNT were dumbed down and became boring. JNTs responsible for this decline. He was the fucken shot caller who killed dr who. I liked colin bakers interpretation of the DR but its too bad the scripts were dumbed down by then and production values looked cheaper & more amateur than they were 10 yrs prior. DR who went backward under JNT. Even colin here says he felt he should have wore all black/sombre outfit but
@doctorwho1982 cont...that cunt JNT picked that monstrosity of an outfit for him against his wishes cos he was trying to emulate the success of tom Bakers iconic scarf hat outfit that captured the imagination of the fans in the USA. BIG FAIL again on his part.
peri...her north american accent was so fake!...over here we knew it and just stared at her tits...we called her fake accent "jet-set-trans-atlantic.../@ milwaukee
RTD knew what worked. Diehard fans of the old series complained that RTD grounded theshow in urban realism, that he changed WHO with us seeing the dr thru the companions eyes and that of their families. Rose, Mickey etc. I'll admit, when i first watched bad wolf and saw DR on big brother i thought WTF? I'm an old skool whovian so at 1st i wasn't impressed. Watching it again 5 yrs later, I realised how much i loved it. Man was a genius. Bad wolf/partin of ways was brilliant!
@doctorwho1982 cont..RTD DR wHO appeals to not only the sci fi geek in me, but the familyman in me too now that i have kids. My kids and teens in my family can relate to DR WHO thru Rose, Donna, Mickey etc. RTD had that emotional element in DR WHO that mde it relevant in modern day and i kinda feel thats missing in series 5. Moffat aint connectin his characther with the audience & it may be reflected in the poorest rating WHO has had since its debut as of recent episodes.
@doctorwho1982 wth the exception of "the eleventh hour" (which i rate as the best of series 5) and Amys choice, i dont really feel connected to any of the characthers. Amy doesn't feel as real as rose and moffat spends so much time rushing the stories along he doesn't pause long enough for you to care bout the main characthers (Amy, rory)or the ones in the episodes. Unlike RTD era (old man in blink, the matron in family of blood, etc).
@doctorwho1982 it seems that in most of th episodes matt is in, its always a state of emergency from get go. rush, rush rush. RTD era wasn't perfect but he knew how to connect the characthers to the audience.
I personally thought he was the crappest, most insuffrable Doctor ever - and i've seen most episodes of all the series. It just seemed like he didn't know what the fuck he was doing.
I watched peter davidsons episode "Four to doomsday" and was pleasantly suprised.I didn't watch too many of his since Tom Baker left but it seems that DR whos scripts only wen tto shit once Colin Baker took over, I checked ou more of the 5th DRs and Peter D still has some great episodes. Tried watching Timelash and Vengence on Varos from colins era...my advice to those who haven't seen it...DONT.
Aw, the Technicolor Nightmare... I loved him so much... It's kind of funny that Bryant's description of their working situation is very similar to the relationship of their characters - I kinda loved it, they were one of the best combinations second only to 11 and Amy. Peri and he Doctor would always argue and annoy the hell out of each other, but would probably give their lives for each other at any given Moments...
Worst remarks I've seen in years. Doctor Who fans are normally a very nice polite bunch. Colin did a decent job playing the role--but everyone has their favorite. Thankfully Nicola went from being 'eye candy' to a more apt companion.
As for people demanding the BBC upload 'THEIR' favorite shows? Most of the series that is 'in tact'? All over the internet. Take some time and search. Not telling my own sources however--That's how we lose them. Trolls ruin the accounts by going flag-happy.
fuck you mumplegruff. Tom baker years were the most interesting and best of the classic era. Why the fuck has noone downloaded it?? R these guys downloading it workin for the BBC and just want us to go out and fucken by the tom baker section of this doco on DVD? Fucken wankers!! Download tom baker years u bbc tools!! if not, Fuck U!
@bentsimon FUCK U BITCH! dont get all pedantic wit me on yr upload download shit-u know what i mean u fuckwit! That wanker downloads half the episodes and then cuts us off. Wat a wanker
@bentsimon talk about the pot callin the kettle black. Yr on a dr who messageboard callin me a nerd...you BITCH!! Yr a nerd BITCH! and a fag! Go stick yr head in the toilet bitch. I am right to say why has none fucken put Tom Bakers years up on here?? That is the obvious question seeing as he was the most p[opular of the classic dr whos
My image of the doctor used to be Will Hartnell because I saw his episodes as a teenager when I was growing more speculative.
Tom Baker portrayed more sides, and embodied the other-wordly nature of a Gallifrean.
Colin Baker expressed the consequences of being a Time Lord; the dark side.
Dave Tennant conveyed all of this and more. His is the best portrayal of the Doctor. I really feel sorry for Matt Smith; he has no hope of following such a protagonist.
that guy commentating got it so right. It wasn't that colin played the dr badly, it was that by his time the writing became awful and production values dropped even further. 70's dr who looked slicker than the mid eighties dr who and far better scripts.
just compare a typical good episode of tom bakers like "seeds of doom" or "planet of evil" to any colin baker or sylvester episode. the difference is clear. By the time colin baker came round, the writing and production values had gone downhill so badly.
Agreed. I think Colin Baker did a good job with the role, but the writing was terrible. I watched Revelation of the Daleks a few weeks ago, and it was filled with needless subplots and unlikable characters. If the writers would have simplified the story a bit, it could have been a classic.
Difficult list 1. Tom Baker 2. Peter Davidson 3. Colin Baker 4. Dave Tennant 5. John Pertwee 6. Patrick Troughton 7. Chris Eccleston 8. Sylvestor McCoy 9. Paul McGann 10. William Hartnell (Haven't seen enough episodes) 11. Matt Smith (Last because I've seen no episodes yet) 7.
Colin Baker was a brilliant Doctor and I liked his performance and his portrayal of the Doctor's personality. I do agree that the writing for Doctor Who at that time was going downhill and it's a shame to see that. It wasn't Colin they should have replaced, it was the writing staff. I would've loved to see Doctor Who continue into the '90s because my generation didn't get a Doctor with the exception of Paul McGann in the 1996 film. Thank God Fox TV didn't make a new DW series though.
Imagine Peri coming back to the 11th Doctor. Wow....

@RoyalGuard503 Damn straight. Colin Baker would have been a brilliant Doctor, if Michael Grade hadn't had a major toddler attack and sabotaged the programme. So yes, it IS good that he's getting a second chance at it.
ApocalypseNext 11 months ago
@ApocalypseNext Were you as happy as I was when Grade ate shit and admitted that Doctor Who is one of the main reasons why people are so tuned into BBC1?
RoyalGuard503 11 months ago
@RoyalGuard503 I'd be happier if he was lynched along with JNT (for picking shit scripts, generally ballsing the whole thing up and slapping question marks on anything that held still long enough), but that will have to do.
ApocalypseNext 11 months ago
By the time you get to "trial of a time lord" it was obvious they were trying to make it darker - and failed. Not a scratch on the dark hammer-horror era of Tom Baker. In defence of McCoy, I'd watch anything from McCoy's last two seasons (with the exception of happiness patrol, which would make even a non-diabetic sick) over any story RTD wrote. I'm stoked he brought the show back though. It was the stupid "Dr-in-love" storylines that sucked in the female viewers...to the show's detriment IMO.
Whosader 1 year ago
@Whosader You really didn't need to include the sexist comment at the end there. Yes, RTD's writing was kind of shit but suggesting it's shit because it supposedly appeals more to women or because, again supposedly(actually, there's been female fans for as long as it's been on), more women are interested in it now is hugely offensive. If anything it drew in a teenage audience who have no appreciation for Classic Who. Take your sexist comments elsewhere, please-actually, no, just shove them.
ashoftomorrow 11 months ago
@ashoftomorrow You misunderstood. Would I equally be viewed as sexist if I suggested that the Doctor had gorgeous female companions to draw in the dads..? I'm a huge fan of all classic Who; everyone knows that the target audience changed throughout the years. All I am asking is why RTD chose to involve storylines of the Doctor falling in love with a companion, when that concept was strictly avoided during the Hartnell-McCoy years? My opinion: to increase viewer base.
Whosader 11 months ago
@Whosader If you said the Doctor had an attractive female companion to draw in more male viewer ship to the detriment of the show, it could be sexist but only if you meant it in the way I assumed you meant about female viewer ship, where the emphasis is on the gender that it changed for not that it changed in general- to imply that the input or interests of the gender are less valuable than the other. But I do think that I misunderstood you and I'm sorry!
ashoftomorrow 11 months ago
@Whosader But! I don't think that romance and the slight hints of romantic love were completely avoided during the classic series! What about Romana? There's a quote somewhere from Lalla Ward that she and Tom married and thought they were in love because Romana & the Doctor were in love. I suppose I'm more of the sort to look for subtle meaning and subtext than sticking to exactly what is shown on-screen and said explicitly, though, so our experience of DW is probably pretty different.
ashoftomorrow 11 months ago
@ashoftomorrow Fully valid points. I'm first to admit that I don't watch the show for the subtext - I just love a good story. (If not for the DVD special features, I'd still be oblivious to most of the finer aspects.) And quite possibly the Doctor & Romana were "in love" - but as you say, never said explicitly...10 and Rose..? More blatant. Except, a la Tom/Lalla, DT obviously preferred his "daughter"... but thank you - I'm glad there are still people who take the show as a whole: 1963 onwards
Whosader 11 months ago
@ashoftomorrow Dude, I was a teenager when the new Dr Who series started, and I'm a big fan of the classic series as well; the new series got me interested and made me want to explore the rest. Take your ageist comments elsewhere, please- actually, no, just shove them.
ApocalypseNext 11 months ago 3
@ApocalypseNext We're around the same age(15 in 2005) and did the same thing. I wasn't saying young people have no appreciation for Classic Who. I meant to say I think the quality of the writing may have suffered because the writers seem to want to appeal to teenagers who know very little about Classic Who- I meant that specific set of teenagers, the sort-of transient, low-key fans. Not trying to imply all young fans know nothing about Classic Doctor Who, at all! That's definitely not true!
ashoftomorrow 11 months ago
@ashoftomorrow Oh, sorry. I thought you were another middle-aged grumpy ranting about the youth of today.
And following on from what you and the other guy were discussing above, don't forget 3 and Jo. Nothing actually happened between them, but watch The Green Death for one dumped-looking Time Lord. I think it's obvious who was the last of Jo's impressive string of disappointed men.

SJ9001 1 year ago
Yes, Colin made a great Doctor, not so keen on him in the flesh at conventions. He's a money grabber. Other actors will sign one personal item for free, not Collin, he will sting you for a Tenner! then quickly stuff it into his little bag TAX FREE.
He won't pass wind or give you the drippings off his nose without someone paying him to do so. Thats not someone who values his fans, except as a money cow for him.

Colin Baker was a very underrated Doctor.
I think the Two Doctors is brilliant.
Giradius 1 year ago
JNT u piece of shit! U killed DR WHO the classic sweries. God Bless RTD for reviving it.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982
RTD was worse than JNT.
OK so the later stuff of the original series (McCoy era) was shite, but there were a couple of good episodes, it did at least have a few redeeming features.
RTDs badly written, deus ex machina, soap opera, crap has NO redeeming features at all.
Giradius 1 year ago
@Giradius ok personal preferences aside there is a big difference here. JNT = shite ratings resulting in DR who being cancelled. DR by mccoy time generally regarded as kids show and a joke.
RTD= excellent ratings resulting in DR who becoming a cultural phenomenom again and regaining its saturday prime time slot. Bafta award winning show.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982 another thing-under RTD that soap opera crap as u so called it has given DR who more female fans than ever was before in the history of the show. Just compare the dr who conventions from past to present. Good one RTD. He made dr who mainstream..not exclusive geek sci fi nerds only.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982
But Dr Who IS a sci-fi program.
Giradius 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982
Giradius 1 year ago
But when all is said and done..who cares?
I like more sophisticated sci-fi and less mush, other people like mush and are less into sci-fi.
I don't care if girls are into it, I don't care about fancy CGI, I don't mind a few aliens have visible zips, what I do care about is good writing and strong performances (my imagination fills in the blanks).
RTDs series to me looks like its made out of all the worst of McCoys era (and the TV movie).
I think he killed Dr Who, but others think differently.
Giradius 1 year ago
@Giradius spoken like a true nerd. Mcoys episodes are unwatchable. "happiness patrol, delta and the bannerman" Yuck .Tom bakers or pertwees made decade or so earlier are better to watch. I'm glad the millions that tune in to RTD revised dr who dont think as you, otherwise we would have no dr who to watch at all and nerds like u would just be still collecting DR WHO ausdio tapes and novels LOL Yr the monority nerd. Hope that makes u feel special LOL
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982
Long live DW!!

doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@Giradius Thanks to RTD dr who is back to the glory days set in Tom Bakers heyday and "dalekmania" in the early 60's. Snobby WHO purest like you can keep collecting WHO novels and audiotapes with the other exclusive nerd sci fi snobs but theres no denying that RTD made dr who a cultural phenomenom again and elevated its status beyond "kids show" and "nerdfest" that JNT relegated it to, hence the cancellation. Nows its a bafta award winning show and only geek minorities like u think otherwise.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@Giradius probably makes yr geek ass feel special saying "I'm a pure dr who fan...oh look at me, i'm a sophisticated sci fi geek" LOL Get a girlfriend geek. Get a life. JNT sucked balls (literally and figarutively) and even in this video you hear them say that by the time colin baker became the doctor, the scripts had been dumbed down and became predictable and boring. JNT u FUCK! U killed classic DR WHO. Thank God for RTD!
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982
Wow..don't you get worked up!
Its a TV programme, get some perspective.
Nu Who is more a kids show than JNT shit ever was..Adipose!, Peter Kay!
RTD sucks balls (literally and figuratively) and NuWho sucks balls as well.
Nu Who is nothing but badly written, intellectually vacuous, emotionally incontinent drivel!
Fuck RTD, Fuck Nu Who, and since you started being a childish cunt! Fuck you as well!
I won't reply to anymore of your sad fanwank posts, so don't waste your time.
Giradius 1 year ago
@Giradius the difference is yr opinion is only yr own and that of yer exclusive club of sci fi nerd snobs who critique the nu who to make themselves feel important when if it weren't for RTD you'd still be collecting DR who audio tapes and novels. My opinion is backed by the fact that JNT was responsible for the show getting AXED, poor shit ratings, dumbed down stories (alas see video commentary) and basically shit whereas RTD has elevated DR whos status to an award winning show, great ratings
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@Giradius cont..a cultural phenomenom and a hit show with more female fans than ever (across the board). It no longer belongs in the "geek only" section of entertainment. Yr little geek minority opinion means your taste is up there with JNT who sucks balls (literally and figuratively-hey dont steal my lines nerd-come up with yr own LOL), the taste that saw DR WHO ridiculed as a kids show, cancelled and sent to that TV vault in the sky-until RTD breathed new life into it.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@Giradius good writing? Timelash, delta and the bannerman, happiness patrol where the baddies was a giant lollipop? WTF?
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
Colin Baker was the good Baker. Far better than the overrated Tom Baker.
HimWotMustBeObeyed 1 year ago
@HimWotMustBeObeyed even in this video they say colin bakers stories under JNT were dumbed down and became boring. JNTs responsible for this decline. He was the fucken shot caller who killed dr who. I liked colin bakers interpretation of the DR but its too bad the scripts were dumbed down by then and production values looked cheaper & more amateur than they were 10 yrs prior. DR who went backward under JNT. Even colin here says he felt he should have wore all black/sombre outfit but
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982 cont...that cunt JNT picked that monstrosity of an outfit for him against his wishes cos he was trying to emulate the success of tom Bakers iconic scarf hat outfit that captured the imagination of the fans in the USA. BIG FAIL again on his part.

Bad wolf/partin of ways was brilliant!
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982 cont..RTD DR wHO appeals to not only the sci fi geek in me, but the familyman in me too now that i have kids. My kids and teens in my family can relate to DR WHO thru Rose, Donna, Mickey etc. RTD had that emotional element in DR WHO that mde it relevant in modern day and i kinda feel thats missing in series 5. Moffat aint connectin his characther with the audience & it may be reflected in the poorest rating WHO has had since its debut as of recent episodes.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982 wth the exception of "the eleventh hour" (which i rate as the best of series 5) and Amys choice, i dont really feel connected to any of the characthers. Amy doesn't feel as real as rose and moffat spends so much time rushing the stories along he doesn't pause long enough for you to care bout the main characthers (Amy, rory)or the ones in the episodes. Unlike RTD era (old man in blink, the matron in family of blood, etc).
doctorwho1982 1 year ago
@doctorwho1982 it seems that in most of th episodes matt is in, its always a state of emergency from get go. rush, rush rush. RTD era wasn't perfect but he knew how to connect the characthers to the audience.

Tried watching Timelash and Vengence on Varos from colins era...my advice to those who haven't seen it...DONT.
doctorwho1982 1 year ago

AtticusStount 2 years ago
that guy commentating got it so right. It wasn't that colin played the dr badly, it was that by his time the writing became awful and production values dropped even further. 70's dr who looked slicker than the mid eighties dr who and far better scripts.
doctorwho1982 2 years ago 2
just compare a typical good episode of tom bakers like "seeds of doom" or "planet of evil" to any colin baker or sylvester episode. the difference is clear. By the time colin baker came round, the writing and production values had gone downhill so badly.
doctorwho1982 2 years ago
Agreed. I think Colin Baker did a good job with the role, but the writing was terrible. I watched Revelation of the Daleks a few weeks ago, and it was filled with needless subplots and unlikable characters. If the writers would have simplified the story a bit, it could have been a classic.
