By the way you shudn't assume what backhand the guy wants to learn....who knows he actually wan to learn not the more challenging one but the WORLD'S most challenging one....what if he wants to learn how to do Taufik Hidayat Backhand....can you teach us? i bet even national players would also like to know how to do it HAHAHAHA
Most of you guys won't give a shit, but I am 18 and a NCCP Level 1 Coach w/ 13th Singles+ 8th Doubles in BC Ranks (trained 7 hrs per day in korea for doubles). I am no way close to good as Anna Rice's skills, but I can coach very well and pinpoint the most important info. I don't only teach skills, i teach everything. Please check out my channel for real badminton lessons, thank you. (i also run a tumblr blog called badmintonpassion with 100 followers)
You guys have to realize, she not doing some special private lessons with you badminton smarty-pants, so dont get your hopes and be confident in saying "oh shes not a good coach, shes not teaching right". obviously shes not gonna teach you the whole thing and plus being a good player she is, doesnt mean shes a good coach. this is a lesson for beginners, if you are so smart about badminton techniques then why are you so-called "experts" even watching this video.
personally when hitting a clear, i'd personally prefer thumb behind the grip hold, more power, but less accuracy... but doesn't matter really when you're hitting a clear...
she might be a good player (i still love asian players for their reflexes), but she's a lousy coach... i mean, i play badminton professionally and anyone giving me instruction like that, i'd never be able to hit a backhand clear ever... one thing i learnt about badminton is- use your own grip... you follow an uncomfortable grip, and you can never learn how to hit the shot...
Your stroke finish is very very wrong. You are stretching out your elbows at the end of your shot. It is not the right way and will give you elbow pain, and is a main reason for tennis elbows. If you look at world class players, you can see them making back hand shots with their elbows slightly bent. The power comes from pronation and the wrist. NOT YOUR ELBOWS. !!!!
@rojovz Hey, I think you should do a little research on who this person is before you make such comments. Anna has competed in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, and has reached top 20 ranking in the world in her career, which pretty much makes her world class. So unless you have accomplished something similar, you have no right to criticize her methods. Also, you should take a closer look at the video. When her elbow was straight, she was demonstrating the wrong way to hit.
@rojovz The point is that you're nowhere near top 20 in the world so you're not qualified to criticize. You're obviously a complete beginner from your videos.
@swordfish712 You sir, are being silly. I have every right to criticise anyone in the world. You think and do what you want, dont you? Well, so shall I. Besides, her videos are for beginners and so is mine. How in the world did you come to the conclusion that I am a beginner based on the videos? If you believe I am a complete beginner based on my videos, then you must probably think Anne Rice is a new born baby, who does not even know what a racquet is. Cheerio!
@vvekkmis you would get it a bit lower than usual, follow through with the racquet most of the time (or stop right at the contact point) and NOT rebound it off the wall like annas doing in this video
@sabugopinath yea this new grip is a new generation type of grip. The old fashioned way was to hold it in the traditional backhand method, but the latest players have designed this grip so that its easier to play and hit with.
Your explanation is different with those from others, especially about the "bounce-back". But I think yours is the correct and complete one. Thanks for sharing, Anna...

@TheHaanswin Absolutely agree.
- I'm quite not good in English but well understand what she said. Her communication is clear and excellent.
- I try to grip as her recommend, it works !
