Why, because your the dad, not a servant. You should be requiring your son to give you the respect that is due. Praying is a way of humbling yourself and asking, thereby giving God respect.
Their prayers will be answered. LOL. I really do expect gas prices to go down because this is the time of year that prices peak. Hopefully, they'll still be doing this in February when prices can be expected to go back up.
