You need to get some pebbles or plants so the baby guppies have something to hide in so that will give them a better chance of surviving. I had guppy babies once and we had lots of tiny stones and plant but none of them survived because the others ate them all :'(

@HEARTGOLDTRAINER8 what i do is I have a floting breeting tank in my main tank and i put the femail in there when she's about to give birth, then when she's had her babies then i put her back in the main tank with the other fish, and the babies stay in the breeding tank for about 2 months then when there big enough, i put them with the adault fish and continue to breed them when there older...hope that helps... :-)

My large female has a larger tummy and when I got her the previous owner had said that she was most likely pregnant. Now after having her for about a month the area where her gravid spot would be is only a very light pinkish-red but it kinda seems like you can see some things. Is she pregnant or not? :/

ive had many pregnant guppies, but it jus always ends in tears cuz the mother just dies.

but then my 2 month old guppy gave birth all of a sudden. and 5 of them managed 2 survive within a day or 2

my guppy gave birth like 1 months ago and it had the same size on the belly like that one and the black spot was abit bigger it gave 10 fry same day when i that it was gonna give birth soon and then when i went to sleep they were all over the tank, hard to take out and put in the fry box, and now it has a huge belly and the black spot is allmost 1 inch big.. i bought a fry net and put it in the net now i'm just waiting..

@iknowadog - when their stomach looks really round and huge, when the black spots are really dark which are the eyes of fry, when the mother fish suddenly stay motionless underwater a few hours, when ready to give birth, the mother fish will lightly twitch her body and tail left and right....some mother guppy do not eat during when about to give birth while some do....that's all i know...

you should let the mother eat her young so they stay in her stomach to be safe thats how fish survive when they grow in the mothers stomach they come out from the mouth automatically feed her not to much but 5-8 pellets

i dont think they can breed into something rare, however a few years ago i got some normal guppies and after a few genorashons of birth they came out a very unique colour and patten (: nothink like the parants i keeped a few and sold the others. (;

dude i cant believe this comment was spammed but anyway im not totally sure what it is but knowing what type of fish you have would help. the easiest way to prevent this stuff is to get some live plants. the plants like do something that prevents bacteria. here's the harder way: i would do a full or at least half water change and get all of that spiderweb stuff out (every last trace) and i would take out all of your fish when you do the water change so you dont overstress them & it'll be gone.
