  • I think that Mamie has a amazing voice, and she does an awesome job at this song. But the one thing that I didn't like was when she goes "Face the future and walk in to it." It sound much better when the"And" isn't there. Think about it.

  • Mamie has a beautiful strength and clarity but I much prefer SJB's honesty. I saw this in previews and it was magnificent--thank GOODNESS its touring because its life on stage is not done.

  • @obessedbookwormA2Z I saw it at the Marquis in NYC with the original cast. I do not know where its touring but I'm sure the main site would tell you.

  • @irkenequine where cn I find a tour schedule? I looked online but can;t seem to find it. Can you help?

  • @obessedbookwormA2Z I was mistaken, I just checked online and they no longer have a website and it says the tour started in September 2010, so presumably its over now. No worries I am SURE they will again! Its funny, I was just thinking abotu this show the other day and just put my FB profile pic of me and Allison Janey up as a remembrance haha. Great show. Thank goodness for youtube!

  • I love SJB, but I feel they both did amazing. There should be no bashing of women as amazing as Stephanie and Mamie. The only thing I didn't like about this version of the song (which is something out of her control) is that instead of Judy preventing Dick from leaving during the second verse and singing to him some more, he just walks off and she sings by herself. I liked it a lot better when she was telling him off some more :P

  • "Dreams and plans are in the making, success is out there for the taking/ wish it was as simple as it sounds/ I have no choice, I have to do it/ Face the future, and walk into it/ now that I'm unfettered and unbound" - exactly

  • I think this legitimately qualifies as FIERCE. SO FIERCE. What I love about this song is that it speaks not just to women in abusive relationships, but also to anyone, anywhere who's ever been in an abusive or manipulative situation. I think many of us can empathize with the freedom that comes when we finally tell someone what's what. In my case, I was in an employment situation that felt downright abusive in many ways, and I kind of felt like this when I left that job to move on.

  • I really love Mamie's voice, but I feel like SJB had more raw emotion in this song. Still a fantastic performance, though.

  • She has a fantastic voice, probably better than SJB, but no one can capture an audience with this song like SJB.

  • i saw this live and got chills all over. this girls amazing! and now shes in wicked?? id love to see that!

  • Why did some people laugh right before she started singing the bridge ("Dreams and plans...")?

  • @TheatricalAppearance That's what I want to know

  • @TheatricalAppearance I saw the tour, and can tell you that people were laughing because they leave Mr. Hart hanging at the begining of the song, and at that part they move him off while he's still in the air. It has nothing to do with Mamie's performance and everthing to do with watching a grown man "flying" off stage like Peter Pan. It was a bit distracting in the moment, but she had no trouble capturing the audience's attention again.

  • My only complaint is that she has a very strange pronunciation of words! Her tone is brilliant.

  • Her voice reminds me of hilary clinton lmfao <3

  • elphaba

  • Guess what that last riff is also in .. wicked :)

  • she's gonna replace dee roscioli as elphaba on broadway in october!! :)

  • @fobo1o Actually it is the First National Tour :)

  • ok ppl say wut u wnt to but the truth is the way she sang it is not how this song shuld be sang half the tie she was just talking through it yes she is an amazing singer and that last note was out of this world but no one and i mean no one will ever take the place of the original judy and no one can out sing SJB!!!

  • @mehousew All due respect, from a performance aspect, Mamie took more risks with the arrangement, and made a perfect song, more perfect. Her vocals are so much better than SJB, who i love, but Mamie is like top 10 belters out there right now.

  • And, I can't wait to see her in WICKED!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw her last night in Fort Worth. This was great. <3

  • Insane vocal. Wow!

  • I saw this show 3 times last week in Toronto ( im a actor too so i get free tickets) and Mamie gave a truly amazing performance. Glad the tour had a chance to stop here in Canada.

  • I saw SJB doing this on youtube and thought it was incredible. This= even better. wow.

  • I saw it in San Antonio and I LOVED it. The only thing is that during this scene they kind of killed the moment when they still had Hart suspended in the air and did the scene change because the audience was laughing. They either should have moved Hart before or just wait for black out.

  • Mamie's my cousin, no lie. I'm going to see her a second time in this show at the end of July in Texas. She's worked so hard to get there and I'm so proud of her.

And for those of you saying she didn't sing it as written, maybe not, but Dolly Parton actually codirects this show. Therefore, Dolly completely approves this version 100%

  • I just saw her in Pittsburgh the other day and I literally held my breath, because I was afraid I would interrupt her. Absolutely incredible!

  • WOW!! I'm not quite sure how I stumbled on this video, but I have become an instant Mamie fan!!! I loved this song when the show came out, but I'm not a huge fan of SJB. That said SJB made probably one of the best Grizabella's I've ever heard. However Mamie really owns this song, and her voice is just amazing...CHRYSTAL clear, pitch is spot on...just WOW!

  • Suprisingly she did not blow out the people in the audience with this FIERCE performance ....

  • I saw it in Huntsville Alabama when it came she was AMAZING!!!

  • her acting seems a bit off, but she i dont doubt shes got a hell of a belt (i didnt watch the full vid because im going to see it in 2 weeks). im going to take you guys word for it that shes really good. i know that you cant judge a performance based on a youtube video :)

  • I was there that day and omg it was even more incredible live. She truly was and is amazing!(:

  • Mamie is simply amazing! When she sang this song when I saw the show the theatre was totally silent and gave a three minute applaud. This was my favorite song in the whole show =)

  • OMG!!!! I remember her at the December 12 2:00pm performance! It was amazing!!!! Just the whole show was amazing in general! But this really blew me away! And I had heard her first before SJB's version! Awesomeness!

  • Ya'll can say what you want. Mamie Parris hits this one out of the park. I personally think she blows SJB out of the water. The sound is so pure and the quality of the performance is unbelievable. This performance has definitely made me a Mamie Parris fan. Incredible.

  • @taylorariel1 do you have any more videos you could upload from the 9 to 5 tour??

  • @Broadway13Fanatic I don't, sorry :(

  • I miss SJB in this role ;-( But Mamie is good--just needs to sing the actual notes...Dolly wrote it perfectly. Sing it as writ.

  • I saw this yesterday during the matinee and I was completely blown away. Her tone was so clear and she had perfect placement. Flawless!

  • Just saw 9-5 yesterday. It was AMAZING. Even the scene changes were fun to watch. The cast did a fantastic job and Mamie Parris completely nailed this song. I was definitely impressed :)

  • saw it in Dayton in the second row! Absolutely amazingggggg her voice just fills the entire theatre and i was on the edge of my seat! she is a goddess!

  • I gotta say, while videos are great and all, they can't capture the true OOMPH of her performance. I saw this tour when it stopped in Alabama, and the absolutely pure resonance of her last notes filled the entire theatre. I could feel it in the bottom of my soul. AMAZING.

  • @Phentleman agreed!

  • Saw her last night in Chicago and she was fantastic!!!

  • this song made my friend go from liking the show to falling head over heels for it. and now i have 2 musical judy's!

  • Seriously one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen live.

  • Dear Mamie,

Sing the notes on the page. K, thanks, loves you, bye!

  • @TheSimplyFabulous wow bitchy much?

  • @wrightstateboy45 Its not "bitchy." It is an opinion. There are plenty of girls prior to Mamie to perform this song. Most of whom stick to the notes on the page. While i appreciate her making this song her own and adding her own flavor to it, I personally do not think this works, and think it loses affect adding riffs that are no only consistently pitchy from the videos i have seen, but too much + go nowhere. This song is powerful enough. It does not need the riffs to make the point.

  • @wrightstateboy45 I will see for myself when I see the show next week and will be able to make a more accurate judgement then. Hopefully, I will be wrong.

  • he left to earlie

  • I was really worried that whoever replaced Stephanie J Block in this role wouldn't do this song justice but DAMN this girl can BELT!

  • Wow!!!! Amazing! Loving all the riffs! She's brilliant. Shame the tour looks so amature.

  • cant wait to see her in january whoa

  • just saw her like an hour ago. i was literally acting like a black woman in church. PREACH! SANG IT! she was incredible!

  • FUCKING AMAZING!!! can't wait to see her in february!!

  • wow that was beautiful

  • AMAZING!....do you possibly have any other vids? or is this the only one?

  • @themonkeybananaking unfortunately this is the only one. :(
