@nzmusic101 Is sampling a kick lets say as easy as finding a song with a good kick where theres a part in the song where it's only the kick and taking it?
@JAMEEEEEEEES hmmm....thats a hard one! They are both extremely good DAW's so either of them will allow you to make quality music! For me personally, i have both ableton and logic, but i prefer logic over ableton.
@domingocarajo not just fx man, the logic onboard synthesizers are unreal. no other program besides maybe reason has better or as good synthesizers within the daw. and sequencing is a breeze, no bloody cliplaunching
I agree with nzmusic. Ableton is awesome but I prefer Logic for the interface and fantastic sounding plugins. The popular DAWs out there (Logic/Cubase/Sonar/FL Studio etc) are all capable of creating the same results and are about equal in functionality and quality. It really just comes down to what is most comfortable for you. For me it's Logic first and Ableton second. Cubase/Ableton if PC. BUT, I've just been demoing FLStudio10 and have recenlty decided to make it my main DAW (pc).
@JAMEEEEEEEES Asking someone else wether two things are subjectively better when the differences will inevitably depend on your taste is a little pointless. I use both I prefer Live he prefers Logic....experience wise I have been producing electronic music for 12-13 years and music for 20 years. Go play with both for a few months each and you will start to get a taste for which way of working suits your needs more.
@JAMEEEEEEEES Both are great. It's actually a matter of the users preference. VSTs/Plugins can work on both although Logic's does have a slight edge. Ableton's double-view/jam-session-esque approach is actually very nice.
@JAMEEEEEEEES If you have a mac I suggest you try them both out. If you are on a budget like me, get a PC. Ableton + Reason + Fl studio, any of them are great! It all comes down to what you like the most :) I stoped using Logic becouse I like Ableton more, but I can create sick shit in both ableon and Logic.
Thank you so much. I have been looking everywhere for a hint, tip or trick to get these basslines and you nailed it on the head.
Any chance you can do a tutrial on a Miles Dyson style Bassline. I know they're not as busy or detailed but they seem to have a power that I cannot seem to achieve.
@influence510 Yea this was only a very simple tutorial, with pretty boring sounds to be perfectly honest haha! I have another tutorial coming soon hopefully showing how to make basslines and choppy melody structures used by artists such as dirtyloud, alex mind, porter robinson, spencer and hill etc. But there maybe sounds in that video that you and others like and then i can do another quick video showing how i made that particular sound. Cheers
@nzmusic101 - I would love a more in depth tutorial of how you made each particular sound. I tried to recreate what I saw in this video and it seems there is more going on than just the sounds we initially here. It would be great to see what else you did (filters, decay) and the automation in general to bring the sounds to life.
Anyways, thank you for doing this and I am now subscribed to your videos.. Looking forward to more.
@influence510 I think i deleted that logic file accidently so i cant access the synths anymore. But right now im working on getting a much better electro house bassline melody and riff tutorial together. From there if people like the tutorial and the sounds that i used, then i will probably make videos to show i make each of the sounds at peoples request. Cheers
@dadaminus Hey man, I send all my basslines (and sometimes other non-bassline synths) to a buss with a L2 Waves limiter. No compressor on the buss channel - i will compress the basslines on their individual channel.
@DBaseMusic haha this video was only one of my most basic basslines - im going to upload a new vid soon that shows how i put together a much busier bassline/riff section. These days there are 2 styles of basslines. 1 is where they have 10 - 20 synths cutting in and out so it sounds very chopped up and busy - the way the change between each synths ends up being their 'melody' perfect example of this is any song from dirtyloud. The other/older style is to use 1 synth and play up and dwn octaves.
@DBaseMusic Yea i am a big Felguk fan! First of all i assume you are sidechaining the bassline to the kick drum? Well there are quite a few ways of getting a dirty bassline sound. Massive is definately my number 1 synth for getting dirty basslines. On the newest massive they have the hardclipper which is awesome for distortion as well as the classic tube FX in Massive. Also Massive has the best OSC selection that can be made dirty! I will make more videos for dirty electro basslines however!
i have another question lol.... now this may be giving away ur secrets so i respect u saying no, but thought i would ask... i am getting better at creating sounds etc and am getting use to logic as a whole... my only problem is knowing where to put the midi notes in the grid when editing in the matrix editor.. i can come up with decent beats, kicks snares claps etc, but when i want to get some dirty electro basslines going on i havent a clue... do u have any advice / tutorials ?? cheers
@MrEd0151 not quite sure i understand your question 100% - but when it comes to playing notes on your midi keyboard or drawing them in on the piano roll, it helps if you know that basics of playing in piano scales. This means when you play a note its going to sound melodically correct. I mean for me, i usually play in a key of 'C' or 'D' (first note i use) and then build the melody/bassline from there. Does that sort of answer the question haha? :-)
thanks for the tutorial .. just trying to learn as much as i can at present, i love electro music and any help i can get to create dirty bass lines etc is really really helpful so thankyou..
only question i have at present is how much are the 2 plug ins (massive + albino) ??

What plug in are automating? You call it a "filter cut off" in the video, but that could be a Logic Plug in, or the vsti.
Thanks!
By the way I really enjoy all of your videos. In some cases, they've led me to create some of my best songs.
