Good video, but one problem. The piece of equipment to the left of the HUD with the V / inverted V and circle is the AoA indexer... It just tells you if your AoA is too high or low for an approach, but it doesn't even know that you are on approach if you are. If you have the green circle, you are on the proper angle of attack for an approach.
I'm sorry, but you have some things fundamentally confused. AoA, or Angle of Attack, has nothing to do with glideslope angle or glidepath. AoA tells you (simplified) the angle of air over the wings, AT ANY PITCH; Glideslope tells you the ideal angle that your plane will fly down to the runway... usually 3 degrees. You can easily be ON glideslope with too high, or too low, of an AoA. Bottom line: 13 degrees A0A is ideal for touchdown, after a (usually) 3 degree glide down the approach window.
Great vids Victor however I must correct you at around the 3.20 you refer to the instrument with the inverted V as relating to the glidescope. It bears no relevance to the glidescope, it is indicating only your angle of attack which for those that dont know the difference, is the pitch of the aircraft. The green circle iluminates when on correct AOA for landing.
The AOA works as a brake dude..sample if its symbol lite..your too low for lading..your on 11 grades and AOA bracket also will appears on hud when your landing gear are down...
that one in middle in hud is the flight pitch marker basically right side is alltitude meter shows your feet.. left side is airspeed scale shows your speed below flight pitch marker is the pitch ladder att top is the gun cross shows +
your wrong about the V att left up att corner. that one dosent tell you about low or anything..if that one shows red you have a problems whit the landing gear, if its shows green landing gear is just fine...
That's incorrect roadrunner, it has nothing to do with landing gear. It is called the AOI, angle of attack indexer. The landing gear warning is on the left console and is represented by three green led's which iluminate when gear is down.
AOI systems stands for (Automatic Optical Inspection) not angel of attack indexer...AOA stands for angel of attack and AOA also works as a breake....yes the green light means your gear are out. But red means you have a problem whit gears.
WRONG read page 317 in the manual. The indexer has NOTHING to do with brakes or landing gear. It is only an angle of attack indicator. Roadrunner...RTFM
If you look att your F 16 Heads-Up-Display Hud you see the indexer operates only with the landing gear down and weight off the gear..there are lights on the nose gear the same color as the indexer lights inside the cockpit. I dont know what stands in your game simulator there this is basic from the real life..
Please roadrunner, read the manual. Page 317 quote "The indexer works all the time, whether the landing gear is up or down." Your comments about coloured lights on the nosegear are just silly. How the heck will lcoloured lights iluminate the runway? Or, does the pilot pop his/her head outside to see what colour the lights are? LOL
There are no lights on the nose gear that are the same color as the indexer. You are thinking about the f-18. The f-16 does not..trust me ive been on the f-16 for 9 years now. The AOA indexer is NOT a brake or anything to do with it. It represents your angle of attack. Period.
ANGEL OF ATTACK (AOA) The angle between the chord line of the wing of an aircraft This is an F-16 Falcon panel featuring a HUD which both looks and operates very ... AoA bracket and backup AoA indexer for precise and realistic landings GO and study more...
There are absolutely NO colored lights on the nose gear of ANY F-16. Period. I dont care what block F-16 we are talking about, 30's, 40's, 50's..C models, D models, Whatever. There are no colored lights on the nosegear of any F-16 anywhere in the world. Its not designed that way. Period. Trust me, I have been on F-16's now for many many years....Real ones, not simulated
@AirlinePilot2008 The coloured lights are on the F-14 as far as i know too, but i only heard that. As far as i know it is a help cue for the LSO to judge the Lading speed of the aircraft, hence it is only needed for Carrier aircraft, right? Your Flying real F-16s, Congratulation for making it through training, and i envy you!^^ How do you use the AOA indexer in reality? or do you use it at all? I have about a million questions i would like to ask you.
@LupusAries I realize this is old, but...AirlinePilot2008 specified that he crews F-16s, not a pilot. These guys make sure the jets stay flyin' and are VERY familiar with the aircrafts' systems and functions.
@burner188 even better! :D In a german forum we once had a plane captain, he was responsible for Mig-29s from the NVA introduction into service, till the bitter end. A seriously great guy, you could ask him anything about the Mig and he would give you the answers, unless it was classified. "Die schwarzen Männer" (The black men) of the groundcrew are the most important in the air force, without them there would be no airforce.
O I just noticed that my post, looked like I thought the F-16 had those lights also. To correct that, I meant that I thought only Naval Carrier based aircraft had them, as the LSO uses them to judge the AOA of the approaching aircraft. I´ve never heard that the F-16 had them.
roadrunner304, Again sir you are wrong. The AOA indexer has nothing at all to do with the landing gear position. At all. The only lights that have to do with the landing gear are the landing gear position lights for "down and locked" (the christmas tree as we call it) and the warning light in the gear handle....thats it. And there is no AOI wtf is AOI....Please do some research before making incorrect statements, especially when some of us (wink wink) crew REAL F-16's and not simulated ones
1:00 this is the frequency for ILS, not the radio.
