  • great cover..

  • Why does Billy look like a bigger budget version of that dude from the New Radicals?

  • I don't see anything wrong with this. They took a great song and played it in their style. The Pumpkins aren't a cover band, no need to expect a note for note rendition.

  • they couldnt cover anything...

  • a lo "smashing pumpkins... medio tristona. ME GUSTO

  • IMHO, Corgan is a fantastic musician, but not as great a vocalist as e.g. Bono because his range is much smaller and he cannot use his falsetto. But nevertheless, I think this is a very nice cover with a good build-up of tension and yet a slightly quiet performance.

  • Every band has it's great moments but this isn't one for SM

  • This is very good. And U2 is my favorite band.

  • Shouldn't everyone have the right to sing a great song?

  • just a fine piece of music

  • Woah since when did U2 fans win the right to be so righteous?Better to ahve pushed the envelope and been passioante for a decade like the Pumpkins did than play it safe for over 3 decades like U2 have. And no,having an elaborate stage isn't pushing boundaries. Both bands are great, both have passion, but the Pumpkins have always lived for rock and roll,U2 too concerned about image always.I'm not bashing U2,just shocked their fans could feel they can look down on a band like the Pumpkins.

  • I can agree that some U2 fans around here are a bit unfair, but you can't possibly say U2 has "played it safe" in their career. They have reinvented themselves numerous times (the transition from Rattle & Hum to Achtung Baby and the transition from War to The Unforgettable Fire are two) and has never been afraid to try something new if that's what people want. Don't say you're not bashing U2 when clearly to some extent you are with such claims.

    Okay performance, though.

  • @JoRu94 Not bashing them,I love Achtung Baby,Pop and Zooropa, but they have always made sure to include at least a few radio friendly singles on all of those albums as opposed to say the Pumpkins or Pearl Jam.With No Line on the Horizon they really pushed the boat out and were shocked they didn't have many sales and no hits. They care too much about people's opinions if you ask me.All of their albums are great so they shouldn't pander to pop audiences. But hey, they're both great bands :)

  • OOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAUTIFUL!

  • I didn't realize Margaret Cho was in the Smashing Pumpkins.

  • Wow this is truely weird. 1993 zooropa came out and from 1994 to 1998 in my high school years my good friend Phil would play an acoustic version of "Stay(Far Away, So,Close)We used to get all the girls at speech tournaments with it. He was couple of years older and had a very semi-successful band during this period. Makes me wonder where Billy got the idea.:)..Phil's version was much better.

  • ehm dude, has this guy no balls or what?

  • @andisetsfire fuckhead

  • @shmedo oooh a smashing pumpkins fan that is angry because someone said something against his favourite band...go fuck yourself you stupid piece of shit -.-

  • @andisetsfire eat a dick fuckhole

  • @shmedo my god. its so pointless to write anything more here...so bye bye xD

  • Don't like this version. It seems to me that the singer hasn't fit the soul of the song ..

  • hermosa, nada me sorprende de ti Billy

  • I must admit, U2 have had the biggest influence on me when compared to the Pumpkins, but I still fucking love both bands.

  • If only billy wouldn't have been such a douche to get along with we could have seen an amazing band make music over the years.

  • @vampov OK, I'm still not sure of what happened. Would you please enlighten me?

  • I like it!

  • Look, Bono and Billy are both totally different singers with completely different voices. To expect them to sound alike when singing the same song is ridiculous. I am, first and foremost, a U2 fan, but I love this for what it is - an extremely talented singer covering a beautiful song. What more is there to say?

  • @rglovesu2 - Completely agree with everything you wrote. Well done.

  • @rglovesu2 you pretty much got it. That's the point of a cover to see another artists take on the same song.

  • Corgan covering U2 - priceless.

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck u2

  • @donkukis fuck you too ;)

  • This is better than U2, Hahahaa this is fucking awesome! Congrats Billy

  • Fuck the whiners and the trolls, this is great.

  • this awful bald guy, just fuck that glorious song, bono must be crying and teasing about him...

  • XPAINARD38, fuck you bitch

  • what a horrible sings this douchebag!

  • @XPANIARD38 what horrible english

  • @XPANIARD38 haha nice english moron go back to grade school kthx

  • I personally prefer U2's version more, but I like the Smashing Pumpkins more as an artist. Odd...

  • James Iha Rocks!!!! The Vocalist is Selfish!!!!!

  • i like both of em

  • Comment removed

  • No matter who sings it, this song is golden

  • yuk.. lol

  • two of my greatest musical influences.....the pumpkins and U2......

  • a great cover from one of my fav bands to a song of my absolute favourite band!

    it's fcking awesome

  • this where and when billy corgan was sexy, and good at being a muscian!!!!

  • if you are drunk at 4:30 AM is ok.

  • con la chitarra non ci siamo proprio....

  • Reminds me of their covers from the infinite sadness EPs. Thanks for posting.

  • I love the Smashing Pumpkins, and U2, and this is a beautiful song and a nice cover. But Corgan missed a few chords, and I really disagree with his choice not to go high with the "Stay" chorus. That removes the emotional high-point of the song. Even if he can't hit it in full voice, or wants a mellower version, do it in falsetto.

  • How to spoil a brilliant song

  • Dull and boring.h

  • better than the u2 version imo

  • Back before in the time when Billy Corgan hadn't died yet.

  • beautiful and breathtaking *__* this is my fave U2 tune and this cover version is just wonderful

  • I like the song, and I like that they did a great cover from U2, BUT, I don't like Billy's vocals. Sounds whiney and uninspired. Sorry.

  • I enjoyed this a lot more than the U2 version. Bono has a pretty generic voice. Plus i don't like him.

  • @coltron3030 There's nothing "generic" about Bono's voice. Nobody sounds like him. His vocals are nearly inimitable. He pours himself into his songs. Listen to "The Unforgettable Fire", "Exit (Rattle and Hum dvd)", "With or Without You"....If you don't like Bono, fine, that's your bag, but as far as calling his voice "generic", you don't have a leg to stand on.

  • @coltron3030

I'm sure you have been pretty beat up based on your comment, but in my 30 years of being a U2 fan, i have NEVER heard anyone call Bono's voice generic...you said it, you just don't like him...but he is FAR from generic.

  • Totally love this version, love the pumpkins always!!!!!!!!!!

  • there is nothing worse than billy corgan singing live. he can't decide which pitch to sing in. this is so painful to hear

  • Legal

  • Billy never fails to impress me

  • nice suit!

  • its ok

  • Most everybody in popular culture, including the Edge himself, is ready to dismiss Zooropa ("It was a nice experiment, but nothing we'd want to do again," Edge), so I love that BC saw enough of the heart in it to bring it to an audience who might otherwise be exepcting to hear "Today" "Soma" and "1979." "Stay" is one of my favorite songs ever, it's hard to sing (Bono is famous for singing way outside of his range), and it's poorly recieved. BC has all my love for delivering it. Danke.

  • sorry but this is just piss poor

  • @warlockbuddy could,nt agree more its dull, flat and complete rubbish!

  • @johnnylongback i disagree - the tune is subservient to the lyrics. and its a slow beg - Corbin honors the original but gives it the melancholy of the Pumpkins sound.

  • @juliasmith88 Yeah i agree, are you saying the Pumpkins sound is sad and depressive? only kidding, respect your slant on the tune. Check out Richard Ashcroft, something tells me your a fan already.

  • that sucks bad. dont even try to do u 2

  • Bono likes SP! :)

He sings some lyric of Bullet with buterfly wings in Electric co. chicago

  • termsofusepolice

You have absolutely no idea wtf you're talking about. If you even knew for a single moment what SP and BC gave/have influenced in music you'd realise what a fucking ridiculous thing it was you just wrote.

  • is a good cover:)

  • They are different.... I like this one also...

I love the melancholy of his voice that makes him special.... no need to compare with bono...simply different voices

  • okasy guys, stop comparing the two covers...

this is a great cover. Yes, U2's version is better, I agree... but who cares? This is still a good version.

  • Obviously can not be compared to U2 and Smashing, are totally different bands. This is a good cover, has all the style of Billy Corgan.

  • lamentable, cero onda

  • Leave this song for U2 2DO!!!

  • i just watched a video of u2 covering all along the watch tower and getting a slateing for it from dylan and jimi fans ha ha why cant people see this for what it is 2 artists paying tribute to another band

  • убого

  • U2 version is much better...Billy has nothing on Bono's vocals...

  • This song is really nothing without the high notes, which means this cover is quite mediocre.

  • GREAT cover. brings something new to the song

  • i wish james was still with them

  • the great BILLY CORGAN

  • u2 and the smashing pumpkins are 2 of the best bands EVER

  • Respectable cover.

  • Oh mein Gott, das ist ja grausam...von manchen Liedern sollte man die Finger lasse.Ich mag die SP ja,aber das ist Mist geworden...

  • it's not so bad, remember it IS Billy Corgan covering U2

  • OMG, this is disgusting! Did this guy ever hear the original version???????

  • This guy is out of tune...........

  • isitEflat

  • @gerry1976 he's not out of tune he's singing in a different key

  • What the!?

  • ??? sounds good to me...i guess i dont understand the prob...

  • very nice grande pedrada muito fixe

  • What the hell is this?? I've never even heard the original and this saddens me.

  • What a crap version. Go watch the U2 version and see how a real band can play

  • this is rubbish

  • Billy, man, this definitely does not suit you. get back to your own stuff

    cheers

  • Oh.. No .. Please StoP!!!

  • The 2 minutes I managed to struggle through were very painful. This sucks.

  • it doesnt suit billy corgans voice ....

  • wow.....this should be on the album "Slaughter, when you wanna kill a song.... volume I"

  • Fucking terrible

  • billy is a genius, but there's no question that having james iha on stage with him was an overwhelmingly positive influence. many great songwriters need real band members to keep their egos in check. that's why there can never be a real smashing pumpkins that doesn't consist of the original four.

this is a nice cover version. nice and mellow.

  • Of course it's diferent of the original. It's a cover! But is pretty good one too...

  • TORTURE!

    terrible cover, terrible singer.

    brilliant song though.

  • Absolutamente hermoso!!!

  • Even better than the real thing

  • bono singing is far way better

  • @ximchimxulam - For you people anyway. As long as you keep liking the same bland stuff, that gives all the more reason for better musicians to continue making better music.

  • @ximchimxulam is far away different... I think theres no one how question the vocal capacity of BC...

  • @ximchimxulam ya if ur deaf

  • @ExisTencePerse Nope sorry but you are wrong; bono is much better than this guy

  • @viperdude281 Lol bono sucks massive cock. Bill Corgan can hit notes Bono doesn't even know exist.

  • Comment removed

  • @ExisTencePerse Bono can hit high C# live without using falsetto, he has extraordinary range. Billy Corgan's voice is kinda whiny and annoying. Just listen to the chorus of Red Hill Mining Town and you'll understand why this argument is already over.

  • @viperdude281 Corgan never uses falsetto. And hes voice has a lot more emotion in it. When I listen to Bono I feel nothing. But who you like better is based on opinion so . .

  • @ExisTencePerse

1 minute in Corgan is in falsetto for a second, I'm pretty sure there are other SP songs with it. His nasal sound most likely gives him more range and power. In classical singing your noise is supposed to feel like it's vibrating a little. Make an annoying nasally eeee sound and that is how you should feel while singing. Allows better projection of your voice.

  • @viperdude281 just cos i can hit high doesn't mean he can go really low, range is relative, mercury had bigger range than bon and billy corgan has good range and a very unique voice. range is neither here nor there, it doesn't suggest somebody is a good singer.

  • @viperdude281 hey you can't refer to Billy Corgan as "this guy" ..It's just wrong.

  • nothing like Bono singing Stay. But it's a good cover anyway

  • absolute snorefest!

  • ZZZzzzZZZzzz.....ZZZZzzzzz

  • theres another song before this they use as an intro does anyone have it? its great

  • if there is a god

  • Amazing cover.

  • just beautiful

  • I am a HUGE U2 fan and have never really gotten into Smashing Pumpkins, but this is really really nice =) I don't normally enjoy covers, but this is definitely different. I am really liking it =) Kudos to SP.

  • No offense, guys, I like the Pumpkins, but thjis version is boring.

  • I like the pumpkins a little more now :)

i understand this as a tribute at the SP way and as a U2 fan i respect and bow to it!!

  • Best comment I've heard on this.

  • Its great that you understand that! :) Not alot of people do unfortunately.

  • I've been a huge fan of U2 from the mid eighties and got all their albums. Later I became a huge fan of Smashing Pumpkins and got all their albums.

I hear here the magic of both of them and just get chicken skin.

  • Did they dress "subtly" because it was a benefit for a school? Or is that just what they felt like wearing? I find it interesting...

  • My God... drosophyllya has right!! one of my favorite bands covering my favorite song of one of my favorite bands!!!! I totally agree

  • Fuck, one of my favorite bands covering my favorite song of one of my favorite bands!!!!

  • vooov amazing!!!

  • Fuck my second favorite band covering my favorite song of my favorite band!!!!

  • weird!!!

  • I've always adored Stay!

    & I love Smashing Pumpkins.

But this is kinda lazy =P

Billy got the 'Lip sync to a talk show host' line so wrong =P

  • I like The Smashing Pumpkins & I was hoping this would be a great cover but unfortunately, it isn't. I expected a lot more from Billy Corgan but the vocal is really sloppy on this one.

  • What a nice song !

  • This can't be STAY(faraway so close), it must be BAD! (sorry to make fun out of a very nice song)

  • nice U2 pun Virihaure :-P

  • WHY?

  • i wonder which one of the 2 has retained its original line up for 33 years and never split up. i wonder which one has sold the most records. i rest my case, U2 rule
