  • This is real fun, gets the digits moving ....

  • Very nice! I had a jam along with it.

  • i started improv blues/jazz soloing about 10 months ago and the only techniques i really know for soloing are scales, modes, use of melody, and space can anyone help me?

  • @adtrrocks1231

I myself am not an expert bassist but as far as I know, those are all the things you need to know, the only thing you need to have is a soul that wants music.

  • @TheBassistWW yeah i thought about it after i made the comment and thought that that's really all you need to know except for like the use of arpeggiated chords

  • @adtrrocks1231 arpeggios are one of the dominant ways jazz guitarists solo.

  • This was awesome. Is there an even slower version?

  • i enjoyed playin along it so much that i didnt even notice when it ended

  • F#cking great man ... what a beauty . I love you man - thanks a million for doing this.

  • magicristo!Man, you have a note-worthy talent. THAT'S TOO FUNNY TO PICTURE!

  • Definitely just bent from an A on the D string to the octave D....maybe not my best idea...had to finish with a terribly tuned D :P

  • @murkemmct Yeah, thats what I get for using 10's :P

but nice song though to jam along. Thanks for the upload.

Also the progression is not slow, its just your basic 12 bar blues.

    same..

  • @TedEdFred21 haha ;)

  • playing this all the time at the mo. just love it

  • mmmm let that back bone slip

  • just love it. xxxx BRILL

  • if you play the middle of the F# m pentatonic it gives a more melodic, country sound .. I noticed by dropping 3 steps from the root helped me out with more melodic improv .

  • Correct...I think ( I may be wrong) but technically it's 2.5 steps back which brings you to the relative (or natural) minor ..you can do this with any key...nice catch!

  • by doing that you actually end up playing the major pentatonic thats why it sounds more country , so i believe

  • Thanks for the track. Mixolydian-A 5postion works nicely.

  • ohh so awesome,i liked too mutch this video[im`sorry,i dont speak english very well]

  • the thing about blues is that even though the chords are a major A progression, what really produces the bluesy sound is the junction of minor and major, so what you'll be looking for is a Minor A scale with added sharp nine, sharp 6 and ofcourse the flatted five, blue note

  • @jonasmathiassen I've always used the pentatonic minor, should i use different?

  • Can someone tell me how come this in A and yet it still sounds good if I'm playing A minor pentatonic. My understanding was that this shouldn't be the case. Any help here is much appreciated. I'm been learning theory lately and this has really confused me.

  • because you are also playing in A,

if the song was in A# and you would play in A minor then it would sound of, and then you should switch to a A# minor scale, but the the scale being minor or major doesn't change the root note of the scale wich is in A like this song ;), hope it helped :p

  • Okay, thanks. I still find it a bit strange that the A minor scale will fit over an A major progression but I get what your saying and atleast I know I'm not getting something all backwards here. Thanks for your help. If anyone has anything to add to this, all comments are greatfully recieved.

  • This isn't A major or minor You can play a minor pentatonic, or a major pentatonic (f# minor pentatonic).

You cannot play in the minor (aeolian) mode. You can play in the dorian mode. (You cannot play a minor 6th).

You can also not play in the major mode (Ionian) but you can play in the Myxolidian (forgot how to spell it). Which means you cannot play a major 7th.

The track does not have a 3rd interval, which means its up to you to make it major or minor, as is often the case in blues.

  • Wow, okay, that's explained alot. Thanks man. I'd never consider the effect of leaving out the 3rd all together. I'll have to take a closer look at those modes and see what I can figure out from them. I only know a little about modes, although I can see why you can use the Myxolydian... I don't know how to spell it either. Woohoo! This theory stuff is exciting when you get into it. Thanks again.

  • no problem

  • In Rock, country and blues, the majority of the time you can play major, minor, myxolydian and dorian modes. Often you WILL have a major 3rd being played by the rhythm or bass. No problem. If it has a minor 7th that is a dominant chord, so you can play myxolydian. We are so used to hearing the scales blended that the only concern is what emotion you are trying to bring to the music. I would stick with maj and minor pentatonics, Dorian and myxolydian. Play around each chord arpeggio as well.

  • @ColourblindCarrot thats actually the most used and important thing in blues, minor pentatonic scales over major progressions!..

  • ColourblindCarrot

The three chords used in this are A, D and E.

Try using Amajor pentatonic over A and Aminor pentatonic over D and E.

  • Okay, thanks, I'll give it a blast.

  • i played this thing 10 time over and over. Feels good. thanks,Marty.
