@rittertiger that's not a very intelligently thought out response. I have no doubt of the Shah's good and noble intentions. But he was guilty of pride and arrogance, and the niave and self-deceiving assumption that his autocratic monarchic rule accurately represented and reflected the will and needs of Iran at that time. This was a mistake. He was still a modern progressive, open-minded leader with the interests of his people in mind MOST OF THE TIME, but he was a dictator. Full stop, although..

@rittertiger...although i am starting to believe that perhaps a modern Iran is not quite ready yet for a democratic system? Perhaps then the Islamic Regime is akin to the puritanical terrors of Purtain England under Cromwell, or France during the Terror under Robbespiere, and the Shah akin to King James/Charles in England or Louis in France? The target is still for a more equitable system.

@rittertiger What the Iranian Diaspora like you and I (i assume) often forget is that while the Shah's era involved much greater social freedom for the people of Iran,it was still very inequitable with a huge amount of socio-economic and political opression, a massive divide between the have's and the have-nots,

I don't suggest the Tudeh party was clean and noble, i wasnt around back then to see for myself, but the history books do paint a comparatively positive view of the Pro-Soviet Socialists in Shah-Era Iran. Mossadeq however, from what i can tell seems to me to be the most admirable leader of 20th century Iran. I hope this seems a little less outrageous or offensive.
