@itachiitachi1946 You haven't heard the term Ancient Egypt before? We use it a lot. You tend to only hear the term used about country who do have actual ancient histories.
It bothers me to no end that they said he "failed at suicide". I mean, it's an obituary the day after his death...Could they not show the slightest bit of tact and say something more akin to "he attempted suicide"?

Faux News will have a greater impact on the 21st Century: they're showing of the United States of America are unworthy of being the homeland of writers as Vonnegut, Asimov and Heinlein, just to mention sci-fi writers.
For a man whose words brought tears to my face for the first time in many years, this was disgraceful. His death was less of a heartache to me than one of his works, that being said I was very upset when he passed.
Unfortunately, I think Fox News is going to have a bigger impact on the 21st century, since their rhetoric (if that's what you can call it) has mobilized so many people to take political action.
Did they really need to add the parts talking about his suicide? What does that have to do with his impact in the American culture with his writing. Fox News was heartless with putting that one in there. How would his family and friends take it after hearing that? Was it neccesary at all?
Fox had video of Anna Nicole Smith wearing clown make-up and proposed that the context of it was that she was insane and on drugs and not that she was simply having fun with her children, they aired this with their bent perspective on it the day after she died.
You know, I never think that Fox News can piss me off more than they do on any given day. But this video takes the cake. Kurt Vonnegut irrelevant? No one within the Fox organization seems to have ever read any of his books, probably because they considered him an elitist leftist author. Slaughterhouse Five was published in 1969, so how they can say he was irrelevant by the 70s is ridiculous. That remark about his failed suicide attempt was repugnant, and Fox owes an apology to his children.
I remember this. Trashing Vonnegut was so low. I mean really, he's one of the greatest American writers. One of the best we've ever produced. Show some respect.
Fox will have a greater impact, only because people are not being taught to read properly, and believe any god damn thing they are told by someone who looks good and sounds like they're right.
Does anyone actually take FOX seriously any more? I assume it's the same proportion of people who actually think a Republican president would be a good idea. Dicks.
@Glozboy22 I take it then you're going to vote for Obama in 2012 (maybe again)? And yeah, if you look at recent history, people tend to favor Republican presidents over Democrat presidents (Bill Clinton being the exception). At least Fox News is open about some of their people being biased one way (unlike other channels). They kept Juan Williams, a liberal, when NPR fired him. Watch "Media Malpractice" either on here or Netflix if you dare be challenged in the arena of ideas.
@HeyCrabman14 Juan Williams is not a liberal, he pretends to be one so Fox can hide behind him when they're called unfair. Either way, he's fed his opinion before he goes on air.
@TheEnviousdominous the crackpots who spoonfeed you laugh their asses off at the people who actually believe their silliness lol. are you actually too stupid to understand the agitation aspect of the left? what pisses me off is, your guru's walk around with a sense of satisfaction, thinking that they actually ARE smarter than everyone. without you birdbrains they wouldnt get away with their nonsense. oh, and who feeds bob beckel his info? you fucking birdbrains lol
@K131399 Alright. There are times when people make a comment on here that is so bent on an idiotic opinion that I'm left wondering it you're making fun of the right or if you really someone who sings the praises of the right, these days it's impossible to tell. So pelase elaborate, are you fucking stupid or are you "pretending" to be fucking stupid?
@TheEnviousdominous aww did i touch a nerve lol. not being a lesser organism, i cant imagine what its like having your ass handed to you so everyone can see. but i do think its great that you're applying yourself, even if its hilarious.
@K131399 So basically, your blanket statements and "lol"s are what handed my ass to me? If that's good enough in your tiny bubble of perception, then I guess I have to give you that one.
Kurt Vonnegut has never been relevant in American society. His popularity was always limited mostly to the fringe left. If you ask 100 random people what they think of him, you'd be lucky if half even recognize the name. Half the rest would only recognize it as a guy in Dangerfield's movie. Whatever you think of Fox news, it's already had a far greater impact than Vonnegut .
@wrjamescom Whether he was popular in the mainstream or not has no bearing on whether or not he was a great writer. And I agree with you, Fox news has had a far greater impact on America than Vonnegut. In the same way that Hitler had more of an impact on the world than Mother Teresa.
@mchandler2112 True enough. I wasn't addressing his talent, on his impact on society, which was the claim. Vonnegut was a god writer, but my point was that his impact on society was practically nill. I think it's pretty obvious that many people had far more impact only because they were better known. Arnold Schwarzenegger, for example, was just a body builder turned actor who used his fame to become governor of California. Love or hate him, his impact was far greater.
@wrjamescom If becoming Gov Of California is creating an impact, then surely most people will be able to name his predecessor? You're confusing fame with impact. Btw, using the word "pig" for police comes from the Black Panthers use of it ( the pig is "unclean" in Islam, the religion of choice for Panthers, hence their use of it for the police ). If Schwarzenegger has had more impact than Orwell, we would the term "Schwarzeneggerian"...we don't because he's an Austrian buffoon with big muscles.
@mchandler2112 When you think about it, writers of fiction almost never have any real impact on anything. Take the greats for prime examples. Orwell perhaps had the most social impact in the 20th century, but even that was pretty much limited to hippies using the word "pigs" to refer to cops. He didn't really change anything.
@wrjamescom Swiss historian had a pretty strict criteria for greatness, and Vonnegut definitely fits it. His ideas will last, regardless of how many people embody them. Montaigne is another great example of this
@wrjamescom well if you think the bible/koran/torah/etc. are fictional, you could argue that fiction writers have had the most impact on humanity. That firestorm topic aside, you have to give credit to people like Bronte, Tolkien, and Shakespeare for impacting the world.
@wrjamescom If you ask 100 people in California who Robert Waterman ( a former Gov of Calif ) is, how many would recognise the name? Again, you are confusing fame for LASTING cultural impact. More people in America know what Jeffrey Dahmer did than what Pol Pot did. Being exposed to millions, as Fox News is, is not a mark of greatness...McDonalds is eaten by millions each day, Rush Limbaugh is the no.1 radio show.
Fair and Balanced is a term that came to life at the Satanic Murdock Empire Rituals, at the ritual those in the Empire drink Cunt Juice from the Cunt of the Hong Kong Communist Chinese Whore and swallow the Cum from the cock of the Great Saudi Prince, after gobbling down the Satanic fluids participants burp, fart and rub their bellies and say now that was “Fair and Balanced”. Spectators of the ritual then being to sing and chant hail Satan.
Fox news is just proving to me day after day that they are trying to control the public's perception of people/topics. Sickening to see them disgrace such an influential writer in american history.
If you don't like fox news, simple, don't watch it. All these people here calling republicans crazy. Half of you probably don't even know what the difference is between the GOP(can you even tell me what that stands for) or the Democrats. Then 99% of that half of people probably don't even vote. They just get on youtube and bitch.
In a typically whining-liberal fashion the narrator dishonestly misuses quotes to whine about the one news source that doesn't tell the story from his own point of view. Bah!
On Kurt Vonnegut last appearance on the John Daily Show, John asked Kurt, what should we do and he replied something of the sort " behave by the words of Jesus". (paraphrased) . I will always remember Kurt's suggestion.
Question for People Who Think Tax Cuts 4 Rich Create Jobs: Fox News supports tax breaks for the rich but Fox News is biased. Billionaire Warren Buffett disagrees despite being rich. So, who's right? Warren Buffett or Fox News?
As a non-American, I would say that Kurt Vonnegut has definitely had and will have a greater influence than Fox news.
But I'm also affraid of the power and the influence of Fox news. It is easier to believe a lie that one has heard a thousand times than to believe a fact that no one has heard before.
What I want to know is how many people that work at Fox News survived the Battle of the Bulge? Not only that, he was captured, and as a POW, Kurt basically told the Nazis that he had a dick they could suck. Then, the Germans sent him to the town of Dresden, which if any of you know your WWII history, was fucking annihilated by the allies over a period of 2 days of aerial attacks that dropped 650,000 incendiaries, together with 8,000 lb. high-explosive bombs and hundreds of 4,000-pound bombs.
Kurt Vonnegut wil have a greater impact I beleive. Slaughter house Five should be required reading. Fox News is proving itself to be a forgetable foot note in American Journalism. No respect for the dead and shame on Fox.
@Bladerunner140 Harrison Bergeron is required reading at my school, along with other stories from Welcome To the Monkey House and Slaughter House Five.
Well, he was to honest about USA, and honesty isnt too popular in US, now I am waiting for hate responses from fox wathers and honesty hating americans who have never read any of his books. Vonnegut was the only writer that could make me cry. thats how good he was. And my penis is 3 inches long, It was bigger this morning but now its gone.
Why would Fox News do anything but slate him? He was incredibly left wing, and though im from the UK so i cant be sure, arn't fox news so right wing its unture?
And who will have a greater impact on the 21st century? Fox or Vonnegut? Well Fox of course. Thats not even a realistic question.
As a fan of Vonnegut I like to think he'd find this offhand dismissal of his work deeply amusing and incredibly sad at the same time. As if anyone was a master of duality it was he :)
Kurt Vonnegut doesn't need Fox to praise him; might as well expect Howard Stern to give a reading of his best works. i wouldn't want my life to be a pancake to be drowned in a syruppy eulogy. Wait for the one they'll do on harlan ellison.
I'm amazed. I know Fox News is, at best, a load of whining from malcontents, but really. This is almost criminal. I can only hope that such springs of ignorance don't survive too far into the future.
@JonnyDsHere ...and he wouldn't have cared. And he would probably want his fans not to care either. Fox did a pretty good job of making themselves look like fools here, and time spent criticizing someone for being a fool is foolish in itself.
It's ironic that they unknowingly made themselves a character in Vonnegut like scenario. Playing into his humor. Vonnegut's penis size: 3" long x 5" wide. Too big for fox's pussy network
Yes, Fox was very distasteful with that obituary. Also, I think Fox will have a greater impact upon the 21st century, albeit their impact will be severely negative.
@bluehaxor88 Fox News will have no lasting impact on the 21st Century. Their shallow confectionary approach to information will be forgotten 5 minutes after they go off air.
Sounds like, once again, Fox News spoke the truth, and liberals whine, bitch, and moan about it. Vonnegut was barely a has been, and almost a never was.
Steve jobs... will live no longer than the 7th month of next year... if not sooner. there could be a possible schedule change i would be surprised if that happens.
There is nothing great about Kurk Vonnegut except that he so easily brainwashed the minds of rebellious college students. He could write a story, but the political and social trash he spewed in his books was trash. Admittedly it is sad to say anyone die after living such a sick and twisted life of drawling people to the left and their satanic overlords. But please, continue mindlessly supporting him and killing babies on the left, you just continue making a fool of your self follow satan's plan.
I'm certain that such a forgiving and loving individual such as yourself has a place by God's side, particularly when God's son was the closest thing we've had to a hippie during the time when people still nailed each other to chunks of wood for the lulz; after all, he was a Jewish liberal who famously said to 'turn the other cheek' and commonly spoke of goodwill towards all of mankind. Of course, being so righteous, you obey the Old Testament; you know, being a dick to everyone.
@mcdoomburger Oh don't give me the Jesus was a liberal argument, it is so old and has been disproven time and again. He was against the Jewish religion because it was corrupt and selfish like atheist are. They didn't worship the one true God like He intended, they had no love or compassion, and they thought they would get to heaven through their own works. But I'm not surprised by your ignorance of the Bible, most atheist are that way about a lot of things, like history. Read it, that's all.

@Devin82m You ignorant piece of shit. You people care so much about heaven, what happens to YOU in the afterlife, how selfish is this? You talk like you dont give a damn about what happens as long as you are right and you are safe in youre cozy afterlife. Look at yourselves. Selfish and corrupt my ass. I believe in good, with no need for supernatural beliefs to justify it. Just because YOU are a christian doesnt mean YOU are right. You dont need to be a christian to be a good human being.
@3C3D3S3 I didn't say anything about ANYONE going to heaven or not. Atheists are so defensive. I am secure in the fact I have a personal relationship with Jesus and will go to heaven. Honestly I am more concerned with where YOU will go when you die. As in I WANT you to go to heaven. Let me ask you, what do you believe "good" means? Do you think you are always "good"? Where did "good" and "bad" come from? If you mention evolution I want a detailed explanation as to how it is beneficial and where.
@3C3D3S3 Also I openly admit I'm selfish and corrupt, so are you, welcome to the club dude. I think it is more selfish to tell people there is no God and that they can live how they wish no matter the consequences to them selves or people around them. Try looking up Ravi Zacharias and Norman Geisler on the subject of no absolutes and moral relativism, you will be schooled on philosophy and critical thinking by masters who are invited to speak at universities all over the world.
@Devin82m Im sorry I keep on seeing things I have missed. "I think it is more selfish to tell people there is no God and that they can live how they wish no matter the consequences to them selves or people around them." To themselves and people around them? A smart person would know different, of course there is consequences. A smart person knows when they do wrong. There is good and evil, "Evil must exist so good can prove its purity above it." No devil, no hell, but right and wrong.
@3C3D3S3 Sorry, that is not evidence for the moral existence. Also you would be VERY surprised how "wrong"(evil) intelligent people can be... Josef Mengele as one example.? I can point you to some awesome videos on the bankruptcy and circular reasoning of relativistic morals.
@3C3D3S3 Do you not see the circular reasoning you just used? If morals are relative, have no supernatural basis, and only intelligent people are moral, then how do you determine who is intelligent? I thought intelligent people were intelligent and that just make bad decisions... I guess the majority of the world has it wrong according to you. Anyway I will stop debating you for now, come back when you can construct a rational argument. I will be praying for you, good night.
@3C3D3S3 As for not needing to be a Christian to be good, your absolutely right. But the question is what good is your being good if it doesn't get you into heaven after you die?
Ephesians 2:8-10
"8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
@Devin82m Im sorry I went a bit to far. I had no intent of referring to you yourself as a piece of shit, just that A piece of shit floats somewhere in your mind. I doubt you are are bad person, but I strongly disagree with your views. I did not wish to refer to the entire of christianity when I insulted them just that a few pieces of shit float around in the organization.
@3C3D3S3 I don't much care if you disagree with me, or think that it makes you look intelligent by cussing. I do care about your destination after death though, really. Bach all you want, but don't do it to long, you never know when your time will be up and it will be to late to make a decision to except Jesus Christ. Good works won't get you anywhere, Jesus clearly said so. As for some SUPPOSED Christians, I don't care much for them either, they are jerks and liers (fakers), not Christians.
@Devin82m What good is being good if it doesn't give you a reward in a supposed afterlife? There are so many things wrong with that question. Ill tell you what, making our world a better place maybe? Fighting whats wrong maybe? I dont care one bit if I get a reward after my death. Right here, right now, us, this world, our universe is what is, and what is important, what people should care about. Just because your Holy Bible speaks of heaven and hell in an afterlife does not make it to be true.
@3C3D3S3 I'm not saying we should be good, I am saying that it get's you nowhere when you die unless you have a personal relationship with God. As for everything else, hey buddy, I was just trying to do the "good" thing according to my God and tell you how much God loves you and wants to have an active and personal relationship with you, a truly loving father. If you want to reject and curse that, be my guest, it is your eternity at stake. But I will continue to pray for you. I'm not forcing.

@Devin82m Just because you a person is a christian doesn't mean they are right and good, and because they arent certainly doesnt mean they are wrong and evil.
@3C3D3S3 Your right, we are still humans that make mistakes. But God's Word on the other hand is right and is good. Read the entire Bible and you see great God's love for people who love Him back is. He provides more than enough for people to believe in Him, but many choose to be willfully ignorant. The best thing I can suggest is pray and asked God to save you and reveal Himself to you and you know what I'm talking about. There is no way to explain God's presence, only a believe understands.
@Devin82m The Hindus believe that I will be reincarnated as a fly if I do evil, the ancient egyptians and greeks believed in their underworld, how do you know Im not going there? Your faith is just one of the more recent and best surviving do to fear mongering and beliefs of a loving god, unless you dont believe him. You can take your threats of hell and shove it up your ass, I have no interest. I am trying to do good by trying to help you realize your ignorance, irrationality,FocusOnWhatIsHere.
@3C3D3S3 Ok, well I won't go on about the evidences supporting the accuracy and truthfulness of the Bible over false religions because you won't listen to any rebuttal I have to say. That's ok though, everyone see you are just close minded. We will just agree to disagree. But I will still keep praying for you. (Really) :-)

HeyCrabman14 1 month ago
@HeyCrabman14 Juan Williams is not a liberal, he pretends to be one so Fox can hide behind him when they're called unfair. Either way, he's fed his opinion before he goes on air.

Kurt Vonnegut has never been relevant in American society. His popularity was always limited mostly to the fringe left. If you ask 100 random people what they think of him, you'd be lucky if half even recognize the name. Half the rest would only recognize it as a guy in Dangerfield's movie. Whatever you think of Fox news, it's already had a far greater impact than Vonnegut .
wrjamescom 2 months ago in playlist Fox News Bias
@wrjamescom Whether he was popular in the mainstream or not has no bearing on whether or not he was a great writer. And I agree with you, Fox news has had a far greater impact on America than Vonnegut. In the same way that Hitler had more of an impact on the world than Mother Teresa.
mchandler2112 2 months ago
@mchandler2112 True enough. I wasn't addressing his talent, on his impact on society, which was the claim. Vonnegut was a god writer, but my point was that his impact on society was practically nill. I think it's pretty obvious that many people had far more impact only because they were better known. Arnold Schwarzenegger, for example, was just a body builder turned actor who used his fame to become governor of California. Love or hate him, his impact was far greater.
wrjamescom 2 months ago
@wrjamescom If becoming Gov Of California is creating an impact, then surely most people will be able to name his predecessor? You're confusing fame with impact. Btw, using the word "pig" for police comes from the Black Panthers use of it ( the pig is "unclean" in Islam, the religion of choice for Panthers, hence their use of it for the police ). If Schwarzenegger has had more impact than Orwell, we would the term "Schwarzeneggerian"...we don't because he's an Austrian buffoon with big muscles.
satanidomini 2 months ago in playlist Fox News Bias
@mchandler2112 When you think about it, writers of fiction almost never have any real impact on anything. Take the greats for prime examples. Orwell perhaps had the most social impact in the 20th century, but even that was pretty much limited to hippies using the word "pigs" to refer to cops. He didn't really change anything.
wrjamescom 2 months ago
@wrjamescom Swiss historian had a pretty strict criteria for greatness, and Vonnegut definitely fits it. His ideas will last, regardless of how many people embody them. Montaigne is another great example of this
ttketb666 2 months ago
@ttketb666 Don't you think it's pretty silly to suggest that someone would be considered "great" regardless of who remembers them? Be serious!
wrjamescom 2 months ago
@wrjamescom well if you think the bible/koran/torah/etc. are fictional, you could argue that fiction writers have had the most impact on humanity. That firestorm topic aside, you have to give credit to people like Bronte, Tolkien, and Shakespeare for impacting the world.
mchandler2112 2 months ago
@mchandler2112 Actually, those people were only read at all because others had impact.
wrjamescom 2 months ago
@wrjamescom If you ask 100 people in California who Robert Waterman ( a former Gov of Calif ) is, how many would recognise the name? Again, you are confusing fame for LASTING cultural impact. More people in America know what Jeffrey Dahmer did than what Pol Pot did. Being exposed to millions, as Fox News is, is not a mark of greatness...McDonalds is eaten by millions each day, Rush Limbaugh is the no.1 radio show.

I believe in good, with no need for supernatural beliefs to justify it. Just because YOU are a christian doesnt mean YOU are right. You dont need to be a christian to be a good human being.
3C3D3S3 4 months ago
@3C3D3S3 I didn't say anything about ANYONE going to heaven or not. Atheists are so defensive. I am secure in the fact I have a personal relationship with Jesus and will go to heaven. Honestly I am more concerned with where YOU will go when you die. As in I WANT you to go to heaven. Let me ask you, what do you believe "good" means? Do you think you are always "good"? Where did "good" and "bad" come from? If you mention evolution I want a detailed explanation as to how it is beneficial and where.
Devin82m 4 months ago

3C3D3S3 4 months ago
@3C3D3S3 Sorry, that is not evidence for the moral existence. Also you would be VERY surprised how "wrong"(evil) intelligent people can be... Josef Mengele as one example.? I can point you to some awesome videos on the bankruptcy and circular reasoning of relativistic morals.

3C3D3S3 4 months ago
@3C3D3S3 Do you not see the circular reasoning you just used? If morals are relative, have no supernatural basis, and only intelligent people are moral, then how do you determine who is intelligent? I thought intelligent people were intelligent and that just make bad decisions... I guess the majority of the world has it wrong according to you. Anyway I will stop debating you for now, come back when you can construct a rational argument. I will be praying for you, good night.

Devin82m 4 months ago
@Devin82m What good is being good if it doesn't give you a reward in a supposed afterlife? There are so many things wrong with that question. Ill tell you what, making our world a better place maybe? Fighting whats wrong maybe? I dont care one bit if I get a reward after my death. Right here, right now, us, this world, our universe is what is, and what is important, what people should care about. Just because your Holy Bible speaks of heaven and hell in an afterlife does not make it to be true.
