Strange, I completed adventure mode 101% and after my second race with Oxide I unlocked N.Tropy...

And i can tell you how to improve... You have to boost when the red is at the end of the bar, and try to do straight turns, use for Crash cove a Character like Dingodile or Tiny, for do it better and try to take the little shortcut ;)
