In Pakistan Pashtun and Afghan Awghan all mean the same as the historic tribes which dominated the lands of the Pashtun on either side of the Durrand Line. In the course of time modern nation states have come to change the definition of Afghan. Afghan is no longer synonymous with Pashtun since Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks along with other non Pashtun Afghanis all have come to use the term.

For example Abdalli was born in Multan in present day Pakistan- shifting borders and amorphous/ shifting homelands can be debated. The reality is that modern Afghanistan is a mutli ethnic nation with many groups- just as is Pakistan. In Afghanistan some Farsiwan argue that most Afghanis have become Farsiwan. Brush up on demogarphics.

@sulpae.I'm not talking about the character of Pashtuns- BTWthe majority of whom reside in Pakistan- I am talking about Afghanis of various ethnicities- be they Tajik, Uzbek, Hazara or Kandahari/Logari Western Pashtuns who form the present day mix of Afghanistan. It is you who have fallen for the trap. They think they can bad mouth the races of Pakistan but fail to see the worse state of affairs of the races in Afghanistan. And yes most Afghanis in the West- of all groups fit my generalization.

@sulpae . What you fail to see is that the term Afghan has evolved from its original meaning. In Pakistan Pashtun and Afghan Awghan all mean the same as the historic tribes which dominated the lands of the Pashtun on either side of the Durrand Line. In the course of time modern nation states have come to change the definition of Afghan. Afghan is no longer synonymous with Pashtun since Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks along with other non Pashtun Afghanis all have come to use the term.

@sulpae . When you start to understand the complexity of ethnic politics, only then will you grasp that things are hardly as clear cut as you may think. For example Abdalli was born in Multan in present day Pakistan- shifting borders and amorphous/ shifting homelands can be debated. The reality is that modern Afghanistan is a mutli ethnic nation with many groups- just as is Pakistan. In Afghanistan some Farsiwan argue that most Afghanis have become Farsiwan. Brush up on demogarphics.

@Shammwow Of course, when new comers settle in an unfamiliar locality, some of their expertise become worthless. It takes time to re-educate and get a job. Ethnicitywise, Pashtons are not worse than any other group. In fact, groups like Vietnamese, Punjabese, etc. are known for cheating, conning, dishonesty, etc even though there are some among them who are honest and reliable. Better not generalize. Only yesterday, the US Congress voted to stop 4 billion in aid to Afghanistan because the money was being funnelled to overseas accounts of Afghani government functionaries and burocrats. Not only is Afghanistan a great deal more corrupt, the most corrupt nations happen to be in Africa. Be that as it may, you can hardly expect a people to be any different that their representatives you see in North America.

As for Ahmad Shah Abdali, I am afraid some may even claim he was from Delhi if we take your assertion that he was from the dark-skinned Multan. Wow! As for Pashton and Afghan, if you ask any Tajik bro/sis, they will call one Afghan when they mean Pashton.

@sulpae . Perhaps you don't know that Farsi speaking Tajiks do call themselves Afghan in Afghanistan and also in the West but you need to meet more people. If you wish to break up Afghanistan to make it an ethnically pure state for only the Southern Pashtuns, that is your perogative but you would have to convince all the ethnicities of modern Afghanistan. You may wish to reference even Western sources which site Multan as the birth place of Abdalli- BTW U have no idea of "dark skinned Multanis"

As for myself, I'm sure it's unethical to call for a socalled, 'pure' state, no matter what it is. I'm not and will not call for a 'Pashton only' state. We r all Afghans and can live together in peace. Pls don't say what I haven't.

BTW , I never said that Abdalla was a Sindi- try to read my post. It only says he was born in Multan. This is based on historical and archeological findings. Multan is located in present day Punjab, Pakistan and many of the people there claim Pashtun ancestry as they do throughout parts of Baluchistan and Punjab- not only Pakhtunkhwa.
