my aunt has 3 dachsunds. A standard wire hair named Molly who is the most trainable out of the 3 but also the most submisive . A red minature smooth hair named Sam who is stuborn but so gorgeous. And a minature double dapple smooth hair puppy named Dexter and all he want to do is lick you face :)
I got my baby mini on my lap, and my standard big boy of 7 years in back of me.
Theo's 2.5 years old, with a double elbow, and extra rib, and basically "worthless" coat. But he's the biggest sweatheart in the world, and still resembled his 4 month old self.
Augie's a family dog, stubborn and arrogant, but he's there for me when I'm sick, and is always ready for love. I remember day one, he learned how to play fetch, and it's been his thing ever since.

"Dachs" is Badger in German, and "hund" is hound in German, so basically the Dachshund's name translates to badger hound, since they were used back then to scare off badgers and such, and because of their small size they could fit into holes. And the guy is prounouncing it the right way, its not DASH-HOUND its DAKS-HUN.
in germany we have three different sizes: standard, midget and cony, depending on the thorax size - is this in the us different? he only mentioned two sizes.

Agree about dachshunds not liking children. I didn't grow up around children and Toby was already aged when I got him. We were never around children and so when my friend would bring their niece over, Toby would get really snappy. I'm not a children person myself so I can relate. I'm sure if the dachshund is mellow or if it grew up around children, it wouldn't be as snappy.
I have a black and tan (smooth coat). I got her from a puppy mill for $25. I felt so sorry for her but she is a sweety!! She is not your typical dachshund though.. She is lazy and sleeps most all the time - she never barks - she is perfect for my apartment. <3 my Charolette.

Our Gianni is excellent with my 2 1/2 year old son. My son tugs at him (unfortunately) sometimes and he does NOTHING. He is a terrific dog and is the most loveable pet ever!!
I've heard of snappy dachschunds, but I have never met one (which is saying a lot since my friends breed them and I have owned them). My old dachschund was amazing with kids. I've seen him chased around having his ears and tail pulled on by small children without him even acting as he had registered that it happened. I don't know I guess it's a dog by dog by situation.

Oh Dachshunds sure are vicious! My friend has two, and every time someone pulls up to their driveway and tries to enter the house, they will bark and walk towards you fearlessly like German Shepherds. She had to keep them in separate rooms whenever she had guests for at LEAST thirty minutes before they would calm down enough for her to introduce them. They're also not afraid to bite either! Thank God Dachshunds are so small & adorable!
I just got a new Dachshund thats on my channel, had 2 before that to for 15 years since I was a kid. As for the behaviour, they can snap but it really depends on the dog, I had one that was snappy and one that never snapped and my new one hasnt done anything agressive in 9 months of having her, its just luck wether you get one that doesnt sometimes bite. I wouldnt swap a Dachshund for any other breed in the world though, they are just to funny and cool to have around the house!
My old neighbor owns a miniature one. His name is Beebo (means crazy). He's very friendly and when we meets someone new he sniffs them a little then he kneels down to show that person that he's allowing them to pet and get to know him. I wonder if he's still alive? Hmm..

I had a miniature long-haired Dachshund for ten years. A whole decade of Doxie. He was the best pet I could ever ask for: Loving, loyal, willing to please, and humorous. I recommend Dachshunds for anyone, but a somewhat more experienced dog owner might be needed at times to override their stubbornness and properly socialize them.

I've had 3 of these kind of dogs. My first one, there was this big dog (was to little to know the type of dog) it was big enough for my parents to tell me to go back inside the house but my dog ran out snarled its teeth and barked at it until that dog ran away.
i love my mini doxie so much.. she loves to run around and wow is she brave... she once picked up a fight with a cat and got scratched on the snout giving her a small gash... although bleeding she still chased that cat and wanted some more unlike my previous dog who got scratched on the snout and ran away crying. i love my Tilap.
we had one, his name was Fritz. Great dog, loved him alot.....we called him iron guts. When left alone he would destroy anything and everything and never flinch. This crazy nut once ate a very thorny plant because he poked himself on it and the plant lost badly. He also ate (or stole rather) 14 large blueberry muffins in 5 minutes. He could eat anything and pretty much never got hurt form it. He lived a full ripe age.
My first dachshund (RIP Rebel) was a shorthair. He was unfriendly towards strangers, but hopelessly devoted to me. He was my best friend and was there for me during breast cancer treatments before giving into cancer himself.
My current dachshund, Mika, is a longhair who doesn't seem to grasp the concept of aggression. He's absolutely friendly.
Either way, friendly or not, I'd take a dachshund any day. :)
@Amelia102938 It all depends on the dachshund in particular. I've seen some dachshunds that LOVE to go into the pool. The three I've had try to avoid water unless they want a drink.
My dachshund is very sweet for the people she knows, but she isn't sweet people she doesn't know. She doens't bite, but she barks at them. She is a typical dachshund, she loves hunting digging, but she loves too lie on the couch. She is the perfect dog for me, my brother and my parents.

@GhostlyHaunter112 i dont know if it will work for you but it worked on my coton , everytime i walked her, she always barked at people and then right before walks i brought some ham (or something your dog likes) and every time she would bark i would pull her leash a little and say "at at!" in a comanding voice and picked her up and if she stopped barking i would give her a treat if she didn't i would hold her intill the person passed and then let her down and kept repeating now she doesn't bark

We have a normal size but fully light brown, short-haired girlie. We call her "Mazsola" which means Raisin in english :) It is almost impossible to tell if she is a genius, or a stupid idiot. Definitely both :D

Also, I would like to add one more thing. Low scores for family? WHAT!?!? As a four year old little girl, I loved her, and she loved me. She once saved my life. We currently have a black and tan male standard smooth. I have never seen a dog so loving. I do understand that the mannerisms from standards and minis is different though. I had a few minis, they were savage. They were really hyper, but Slim and Martha were more laidback.
My old girl Martha passed at the age of 21. She was a heavyset girl, and she was running around even on her last days. God bless her, a stroke took her. She was a red, smooth, standard.
I love my lil guy, he's so sweet. Also he's always been great with people, even kids. If he doesn't like someone (which is rare as long as they pet him) then he ignores them

Our Gianni is excellent with my 2 1/2 year old son. My son tugs at him (unfortunately) sometimes and he does NOTHING. He is a terrific dog and is the most loveable pet ever!!

I've heard of snappy dachschunds, but I have never met one (which is saying a lot since my friends breed them and I have owned them). My old dachschund was amazing with kids. I've seen him chased around having his ears and tail pulled on by small children without him even acting as he had registered that it happened. I don't know I guess it's a dog by dog by situation.

I love my little Koko she's so cute! And she's a very rare color: dark chocolate brown with a black stripe running down her back and it feels like coarse hair (like on a horse).

Oh Dachshunds sure are vicious! My friend has two, and every time someone pulls up to their driveway and tries to enter the house, they will bark and walk towards you fearlessly like German Shepherds. She had to keep them in separate rooms whenever she had guests for at LEAST thirty minutes before they would calm down enough for her to introduce them. They're also not afraid to bite either! Thank God Dachshunds are so small & adorable!

I just got a new Dachshund thats on my channel, had 2 before that to for 15 years since I was a kid. As for the behaviour, they can snap but it really depends on the dog, I had one that was snappy and one that never snapped and my new one hasnt done anything agressive in 9 months of having her, its just luck wether you get one that doesnt sometimes bite. I wouldnt swap a Dachshund for any other breed in the world though, they are just to funny and cool to have around the house!

My old neighbor owns a miniature one. His name is Beebo (means crazy). He's very friendly and when we meets someone new he sniffs them a little then he kneels down to show that person that he's allowing them to pet and get to know him. I wonder if he's still alive? Hmm..

My dog was was a beagle half dachshund. She was the most sweetest, cutest, nicest, smartest dog anybody I ever met. She never hurt anyone. But she was protected of me. She followed me everywhere I went. I miss my baby.

I had a miniature long-haired Dachshund for ten years. A whole decade of Doxie. He was the best pet I could ever ask for: Loving, loyal, willing to please, and humorous. I recommend Dachshunds for anyone, but a somewhat more experienced dog owner might be needed at times to override their stubbornness and properly socialize them.

Daschund's are one of the world's most aggressive dog breeds. They nip and bark alot. I don't reccomend them for families. T.T

If were in the car with my dachshund and someone in the family leaves so she can't see them she starts crying and barking and looking out the windows and when they come back shell be so happy she tinkles

I've had 3 of these kind of dogs. My first one, there was this big dog (was to little to know the type of dog) it was big enough for my parents to tell me to go back inside the house but my dog ran out snarled its teeth and barked at it until that dog ran away.

i love my mini doxie so much.. she loves to run around and wow is she brave... she once picked up a fight with a cat and got scratched on the snout giving her a small gash... although bleeding she still chased that cat and wanted some more unlike my previous dog who got scratched on the snout and ran away crying. i love my Tilap.

we had one, his name was Fritz. Great dog, loved him alot.....we called him iron guts. When left alone he would destroy anything and everything and never flinch. This crazy nut once ate a very thorny plant because he poked himself on it and the plant lost badly. He also ate (or stole rather) 14 large blueberry muffins in 5 minutes. He could eat anything and pretty much never got hurt form it. He lived a full ripe age.

My first dachshund (RIP Rebel) was a shorthair. He was unfriendly towards strangers, but hopelessly devoted to me. He was my best friend and was there for me during breast cancer treatments before giving into cancer himself.
My current dachshund, Mika, is a longhair who doesn't seem to grasp the concept of aggression. He's absolutely friendly.
Either way, friendly or not, I'd take a dachshund any day. :)

@Amelia102938 It all depends on the dachshund in particular. I've seen some dachshunds that LOVE to go into the pool. The three I've had try to avoid water unless they want a drink.

My dachshund is very sweet for the people she knows, but she isn't sweet people she doesn't know. She doens't bite, but she barks at them. She is a typical dachshund, she loves hunting digging, but she loves too lie on the couch. She is the perfect dog for me, my brother and my parents.
By the way, in the Netherlands a dachshund is called 'Teckel'

@GhostlyHaunter112 i dont know if it will work for you but it worked on my coton , everytime i walked her, she always barked at people and then right before walks i brought some ham (or something your dog likes) and every time she would bark i would pull her leash a little and say "at at!" in a comanding voice and picked her up and if she stopped barking i would give her a treat if she didn't i would hold her intill the person passed and then let her down and kept repeating now she doesn't bark

i miss my dachsund she died a couple of months ago i miss her so so much she was soooooo sweet and she loved everyone especially children. i also have a boxer named lassie. and the dachshund's name was panther our dog lassie has tooken panther's death pretty hard becuz she treated the dachshund like her own child.

We have a normal size but fully light brown, short-haired girlie. We call her "Mazsola" which means Raisin in english :) It is almost impossible to tell if she is a genius, or a stupid idiot. Definitely both :D

Also, I would like to add one more thing. Low scores for family? WHAT!?!? As a four year old little girl, I loved her, and she loved me. She once saved my life. We currently have a black and tan male standard smooth. I have never seen a dog so loving. I do understand that the mannerisms from standards and minis is different though. I had a few minis, they were savage. They were really hyper, but Slim and Martha were more laidback.

My old girl Martha passed at the age of 21. She was a heavyset girl, and she was running around even on her last days. God bless her, a stroke took her. She was a red, smooth, standard.
