  • Do you guys have the FULL range of motion (particularly in regards to the shoulders) when wearing armour? Are you able to fully extend you arms and rotate your shoulders above your head?

  • @KnightlyNerd Movability is only slightly restricted as far as the more lateral directions are concerned. But in fact raising the arms over the head is a bit more troublesome due to the articulation of the pauldrons. Nevertheless it's absolutely possible to stand in guard with the hands over the head (in fact there is a guard that calls for a hand held high), although a classical Bloßfechten posture like Ochs is impossibly because of the diameter of the lower vambraces and the crossed wrists.

  • @DierkHagedorn I see. Thankyou so much for the information and reply. :)

  • Hi,one question about instructors armour, how front and backplate are held together? I notice no straps.

  • @rozssy Have a look at the channel of the user tossetoke, who is a colleague of mine and in whose channel you will find a playlist called "HEMA-demonstrations". You can see there how my harness is put on.

  • cool stuff... I just can't imagine how they did it in the old days...

  • He reminds me of C-3PO partly because of his posh accent but also they way he moves in that armour.

  • Nice stuff, you are obviously a good instructor.

  • payasos...

  • Guy on left at 4:00 is thinking: "why doesn't my bevor fit inside my bloody salet, this is pissing me off." I KNOW YOUR PAIN BUDDY! THE SOLUTION IS CALLED THE BARBUT!

  • That guy in the armor in the beginning looks funny for some reason with his head uncovered. His body likes tiny an his head looks.... Just can't describe it xD

  • This is brilliant sir! Thank you for educating us.

  • I have always been interested in knights and the way they fought.

This looks like it can be used in a real sword fight. I think a real swordfight is like in boxing or any other martial art a combination of bravery, speed, power and technique.

  • This fighting style is weird... why it has to hold the swords on its blade.... doesn't seem like swords are designed to hold this way... isn't it better to use staff sword instead...

  • @chongoonchua

Because they are in armor there is not much gain in holding your swod the normal way, because you can't cut through plate. So if you instead hold the blade like this you can do thrusts with more precision and more power with the drawback of some reach. I think however a spear would be better in this situation, a pollaxe would be really great, but this is some things you can do if you only have a longsword.

  • @gurkfisk89 COOL!! thank you that makes more sense now

  • @chongoonchua The usage of weapons depends largely on the circumstances. A judicial duel (which we are talking about here) is, after all, subject to some specifications. In Gladiatoria you start indeed with spear, sword, dagger and a targe. You start with the spear, often by casting it in order to distract the opponent. Then you work with the sword, or the dagger. Try to bring him to the ground or lead him out of the fighting area. Thus you win. No need to necessarily kill him, by the way.

  • @chongoonchua It's called half sword. you are effectively halving the fighting range in close quarter battles, its well documented as being a period technique and can be incredibly useful. A swordsman who can change quickly from long to short range can win a fight as quickly as it has begun.

  • @chongoonchua The european long sword is pretty versatile. It's a one hander, a two hander, a blunt pick and a short spear when the occassion calls for infighting or driving it into those vulnerable areas of an armoured opponent.

  • How heavy are these armours?

  • @TrailersProject About 30 kg.

  • @DierkHagedorn And is it hard to move around in full set?

  • @TrailersProject Define "hard". But honestly it is heavy of course, and after a while you feel the strain. After a couple of hours, that is. And since I wear armour not THAT often, I could be a bit more accustomed to it. But apart from that you move quite freely. It's tricky though to scratch your back. But since it is encased in steel anyway there's no point in even trying to scratch. So the answer is: yes and no.

  • People in plate armour are just amazing to look at.

There is just nothing as intimidating and yet beautiful as a full harness.

  • guys in plate armour turn me on

  • @Isseinoyuu There are a lot of places. My suit of armour is from bestarmour com

  • where do you guys buy the harnesses?

  • so badass I wants my amour nAOW!

  • I love that little dude in the full harness and sallet at the end. He looks like a badass.

  • @Djemps Well, in fact that "little dude" is a charming young lady. Just for the record ...

  • @DierkHagedorn Ha! That's awesome. Well SHE'S a badass.
