Kui (like Yang Bo) was born under the wrong code. :( She and Yang are two greats that should have won Olympic and World golds on this event-same for Shaposhnikova way back in the late '70's.
@vesperholly Silivas was under a brutal dictator Nicolae Ceauscescu. Her countrywoman Nadia Comaneci allegedly had been sexually abused by the his own son. Daniela was not free to make grand gestures of sportsmanship. And in the end-it's not her fault that under that CoP both Dudnik and more so Yang Bo had heavy landings on their dismounts. Silivas was solid and her routine was still lovely with beautiful lines and form irregardless. She deserved to win due to the others mistakes. That's sport.
I know she did not qualify because of the compulsory round but this routine put's Miller's, Podkopayeva's, and Gogean's routines to shame, all together from this olympics. I'm glad they did away with the compulsories and that the new scoring system rewards athletes like this who perform harder tricks more often. Had this been the 00' Olympics, there's no way Miler would've won the gold over this routine when performed well by both athletes.
Kui not being in beam finals in Atlanta had nothing to do with Shannon Miller. It was a fall in compulsory beam that kept her out. It was really sad because this is OBVIOUSLY a GREAT set!

Kui Yuan Yuan was the public's choice for beam gold medalist at the 1997 World Gymnastics Championships where an INSIPID GINA GOGEAN FROM ROMANIA won. SHE WAS OBVIOUSLY EXCLUDED FROM BEAM FINAL AT THE 1996 OLYMPICS TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR USA'S SHANNON MILLER TO WIN. It is unfortunate that the gymnasts themselves are impacted by the despicable maneuverings of officials, judges and commercial interests. KUI YUAN YUAN IS PHENOMENAL!
If that was the case then someone needs to give back Shannon her gold medal from 92 and the wrotten scores she got in 95 because she had been nothing but low balled from 95 on
ive probably watched this routine 100000 times :) its amazing

And don't forget Olessia Dudnik in 1989. I love Silivas, but she couldn't have given up one of her many golds? ;)

This set was beautiful...Kui always had a presence on the beam. Her work in 97 was great too.
Strangely enough, her golds are on vault and floor!

Is Kui's compulsory beam set available somewhere? I can't seem to find it. :(

She was excluded from the beam final because she fell in the compulsory.

Gogean wasn't insipid...she followed the COP, came up with a 10.00 routine, and performed it without fault. Can't blame her. Blame the code.
