I believe that the reason we feel "Happy" after lets say buying new stuff, or accomplishing goals, is basic human instincts. And it's that feeling of comfort that makes us strive to achieve new goals.

If it weren't for happiness ppl wouldnt be as motivated to get things done. Therefor I think it would be really horrible if we would feel that kind of happiness whenever. At least I would probably stop trying to improve my self and my current situation if it were the case.

I actually agree with you, but you took the point in a direction which I don't agree with. You can't be happy all the time, if you do that then there's never be any variation in your feelings and you'd stop appreciating happiness so much and then what is there? You can over-use happiness is what I'm getting at. It's like being neutral, most of the time humans are neutral and that becomes the unappreciated norm of life. They mean that you should appreciate what you have and the stuff that you were happy with when you were first happy with it, in essence the thing you were happy with like shoes haven't changed, so why shouldn't you still be happy about it? It's not happy over nothing, more like prolonged happiness about something you were happy about to start with and spreading the happiness evenly :)

Think about the difference between happiness and any other feeling, they're just there, why should we seek one out in particular? As humans we've created the concept of what are good and what are bad feelings but really there's no real reason why we should aim to feel a certain way.

However if scientists manage to somehow modify this, we won't need to want to be happy anymore. We could have just as easily grown up believing pain was a positive feeling and happiness was a sissy feeling or something along those lines, some isolated tribes have done just that.
