They sound best when they sing the verses, unaccompanied. But if you like this, you will probably like Nana Mouskouri version (which is more atmospheric: wring out your hanky at the end).
Loved it. Didn't listen to Ray Charles' version all the way through. Loved Alison Kraus's version. Don't know what all the fuss is about Edith Piaf. This lovely tune is crying out for a great harmonised treatment, and the boys' choir and their arranger did it superbly.
I just favorited this video, but if you post a better quality version, please let me know. The Browns did an excellent version, but I like the boys' voices on this beautiful song.
I still have a Trinity Boys Choir's LP that I bought in 1988 and this is one of several beautiful songs that I had the chance to hear. There were also "Count your blessings", "Go tell it on the mountain" and I would very much like to hear them in the you.tube because I wasn't able to put them on a cd :( Thanks in advance notyobs :))
Amazing! I bought the SAME LP at about the SAME time as you did, and that was my first experience of this superb choir. I later found for of the tracks used as a filler on another CD, but they were far superior to the choir on the rest of the CD!
Indeed, and incase you're interested it is still my intention to make a better job of transferring it to Youtube as I didn't make a terribly good job of this one.
Try and find the Ray Charles version on his Country and Western albums.I only new the Companions of Song version as a child and found so many more when Napster was around but I lost them all when my hard drive crashed.. Thanks to all who have posted this song.
OK. but Edith and the Compagnons put this in the shade. It's a question of feel, texture and capturing when this was penned. These guys aren't singing how it really is
theres a verson some one did with a high voice, can not find it

Nana Mouskouri has a lovely version of this on her 'Mouskouri Essentials' album....

Nice, but the original,Les Trois Cloches, with Edit Piaf and Les Compagnons de la Chanson, is still the very best!

Well, they're completely different. To appreciate this one you really need to hear it coming out of good speakers in stereo. It's superb singing.

This is a nice version but I still prefer The Browns version. I'm looking for the music for it so i can play it on my fiddle.

Hey Beeswings... you play it and I'll sing it ;-)

it's ok but i still prefer The Browns singing it. My grandmother used to play The Browns version all the time so it brings back fond memories for me.
