Fabulous as always ! You may not know it but you and phil are teaching me how to play - also you are to blame for me spending well over 2 grand on roland kit so far !!! Yup - it's your fault :)
I'd love to see you play paperlate if you ever get round to it - probably my fav to play right now (along with cinema show). Big thanks (and respect).
I didn't know it, but I do now, and I am humbled (a) that you are learning from me and (b) that you have put me in the same group as Phil :-) As for the Roland - Ha! Ha! Wonderful news - I ought to be a Roland endorsee!!! I hope you are enjoying the kit - sounds like you got yourself a good one!
Paperlate - wow! Not heard that one for years! We'll see. Cinema Show - that's a tough one my friend - have fun!
@mathomas1962 Thank you! I never really thought of that bit as triplets - that's the problem with being self taught: I don't generally have any idea what I am actually doing! All I know is Phil does this outrageous thing that swerves across the beat, and it took me an age to decide what he was doing and how to play it myself :-)
Yes! The samples are SO SWEET! I feel like I could play anything with them. It is incredibly, incredibly inspiring. The results speak for themselves!
Great performance! I love Seconds Out but the original version even more. Isn't Phil even more all-over-the-place there? Have you thought of doing it ... ?
I have always preferred the Seconds Out version myself! I think it has so much power and 'oommph' plus I love the interaction between Phil and Chester. Of course, the reason for this particular video is that iGenesis are recreating a live version of this....
Anyway, yes, the original version with just Phil sees him playing in a very different way on this - very intricate and busy and I suspect, for me, very hard to copy! I have never really studied it - too frightened :-)
I hate electric drumkits, unless they are part of a big ass acoustic set, but man, you made me fall in love with them just now! Great great great job. I've been watching you for years now, you get better every time!!
Goosebumps hearing and watching you cover both parts, especially with the audio added... one of my favorite organ leads to play, just a tough time coming up with drummers who can appreciate that time signature ;-)... Can't Hardly Wait to see the new Video!
That is brilliant, top notch my friend. I'd go so far to say one of your best yet,
Love the way you split out both parts - makes me realise how hard it must have been for Chester to restrain himself and keep to the 'basic' parts without cutting loose.
Here's wishing you a great 2012 - obviously with lots more postings to keep us all happy.
@ShatteredStick Thank you my friend, much appreciated! I am glad my skills with iMovie have improved just in time for me to create this video - though frankly it took nearly as much effort as learning the drum part ;-)
I can't claim that what I have played as 'Chester' is strictly correct - he may have done more. But for sure, it is very hard to keep playing the basic pattern when 'Phil' is doing his stuff. It was a great mental challenge for me to learn both parts!
Hi Jouxplan, nice to see you on here again, must admit I'm a purist and prefer the the first part without the backing track interfering with your drums! Niiiiiiice.
@virtualobject Ha! I thought you were going to say 'and I prefer acoustic drums' . That's funny! It is nice without the background music, but I think it does need a little something to give it context, and prove I am playing it about right!!!
As a Genesis fan for many years (and about your age, I believe), I find your drumming, understanding the work you've put in to replicate, breathtaking. This kind of work and attention to detail is that of only a big fan, and I appreciate that. What a rush it must be master not just a replication, but both Phil and Chester's individual performances.
@isitrealgood I am really humbled by that - thank you so much. It makes all the hard work really seem worthwhile - believe me it takes me a long time to work all this stuff out, and even longer to make my arms and legs play it, and then even longer again to make it groove a little. I am always worried at the start of learning these: it seems like I will never get it right. But yes, once I have put the hours in, and it is flowing, it is a big rush :-)
Hey buddy this is really amasing, you made me imaginate how the hell was it palyed when recorde live... just fantastic.... keep working we´ll continue folowing you.
@tomjobimforever Thank you - that is high praise! I can't claim that this is exactly what Phil and Chester did, but I think it is close and it is the best interpretation I am capable of. I admit I am very proud of it though :-)
@4321Genesis Hey Ron! I can't wait to see the completed video. Cyrus and I are having a ball, and we love working with you too my friend. Hope you liked the drumming on this one!
@jenschristof123 No, you are not wrong - I think I am improving all the time! Doing this stuff on YouTube and trying to be a good enough drummer to remain the drummer in iGenesis, had certainly raised my game :-) I had no idea iGenesis would be a good as it is, and the other guys are frighteningly good musicians!
I can´t consider this as a "sneak preview" dear Alex. This is another amazing sample of your drum work. Of course I'm quite looking forward to watch and listen to the entire iGenesis video. Feliz Navidad Amigo, my best wishes for you and your family and a big hug from Argentina!!
Great job! It's very nice the double clips of drum play. Good musical performance (tnx to Genesis too ;) ).
I'm like your performances, have luck! Byeeeee

Awesome! The triplets at 8:00 are really cool. Are you finding yourself inspired by playing samples rather than the TD-20's synthesized sounds?
