@JemaMarterosyan If you want to read a book about vampires, read "The Vampire Chronicles" by Anne Rice. THAT is a great series. Not this crap. The reason why it sucks is that Meyer doesn't describe every character as it should be. Read Stephen King's novels, every single character is described in details and the smallest one has more facial expressions than Bella, who seems like a stick figure.
But right, I forgot, you people don't read other books because they're too long.

I think people should stop comparing Harry Potter to Twilight. Twilight and Harry Potter and two very different series with very different characters and plots. I love both series but its important to realize that they are different. I like Twilight but I have to admit that I didn't really care for all the books. I found Bella's POV and Jacob's POV in Breaking Dawn extremely annoying though Jacob was funny. In the movies, the ruined Bella and Edward's character. I'm team Carlisle.

There are no depth or real flaws in the characters, they're not interesting and you don't really care about them. I also think that Meyer is OK writer, you can read her text without sharing shame BUT the main problem is more likely in her sense of story and plot. Smeyer has potential. But, as a writer, she should know the importance of words. Randomly using smart sounding synonyms is a "rookie mistake." If she spent time fleshing out Edward, and Bella as well as their romance, instead of describing his "hawtness" every single chapter she could have done a whole lot better. And no, I'm not jealous.

@TheBorgzy For me is Stephen King one of the biggest authors in our time. Because he had written about 60 novels. Meyer and Rowling only one story. Meyer had written a story about vampires and Rowling about wizards. King about Aliens, murders, ghosts, horror bugs, crazy peoples, crazy dogs, cursed houses, "time" - monsters, princes, horror clowns, and ... and ... and... But Kings storys are not for everyone. That's the problem. ;-)
No, her books aren't very good, but I'll say this: at least she's getting people to read. Yes, it's unrealistic, poorly-written, fluffy masturbation material, but at least people are actively reading it instead of passively watching it. And who knows? Maybe those readers will eventually move onto bigger and better literature.

Bella as a character is designed as a stand in for the reader, and then the book pushes that character into an abusive relationship and touts that sick infatuation as a romantic ideal. Bella also callously toys with Jacob and this is presented as almost a good thing. The book is infatuation personified, without any self awareness. Just on those grounds Meyer deserves derision.

With most stories that characters abuse each other is a BAD THING - something to get over, or just deal with for the greater good. In Twilight, abuse is the freeking goal, and is never even framed as abuse. Impressionable young readers already think selfishness, abuse and melodrama are acceptable, Meyers portrays them as actively desirable.

there is no real conflict in the books, it's all about:

Smeyer has potential. But, as a writer, she should know the importance of words. Randomly using smart sounding synonyms is a "rookie mistake." If she spent time fleshing out Edward, and Bella as well as their romance, instead of describing his "hawtness" every single chapter she could have done a whole lot better. And no, I'm not jealous.
@ people saying not to criticize her. She's an author. It goes with the job.
And criticism helps you to develop your writing. It should be encouraged.

Meyer had written a story about vampires and Rowling about wizards. King about Aliens, murders, ghosts, horror bugs, crazy peoples, crazy dogs, cursed houses, "time" - monsters, princes, horror clowns, and ... and ... and... But Kings storys are not for everyone. No, her books aren't very good, but I'll say this: at least she's getting people to read. Yes, it's unrealistic, poorly-written, fluffy masturbation material, but at least people are actively reading it instead of passively watching it. And who knows? @fairygirl609 These books / movies send a dangerous message - especially for the young girls who are it's target. Bella as a character is designed as a stand in for the reader, and then the book pushes that character into an abusive relationship and touts that sick infatuation as a romantic ideal. Bella also callously toys with Jacob and this is presented as almost a good thing. The book is infatuation personified, without any self awareness. Just on those grounds Meyer deserves derision.

I do agree though that the hate for the sparklyness or that they're friendly vampires is a bit over the top. I think the mythology is silly myself, but that's not what makes Meyer or the books bad.

When you hear so many people talking about something it tends to get annoying after a while, when really one would otherwise not care about the novel or even like it. It's kind of a shame really. I think other than the unusual love/hate fame this novel has gotten, it's pretty much an ordinary source of entertainment.

With most stories that characters abuse each other is a BAD THING - something to get over, or just deal with for the greater good. In Twilight, abuse is the freeking goal, and is never even framed as abuse. Impressionable young readers already think selfishness, abuse and melodrama are acceptable, Meyers portrays them as actively desirable.
