  • This is amaizing;D

  • that would be scary as hell if you got trapped under the netting between the hulls

  • @impthedimp1 We often do if it capsizes quick enough, but there are knives strapped to both sides of the tramp though and our lifejackets aren't inflatables so we can swim downwards and away from it

  • Gotta love the big boats,Awesome races to be a part of :-)

  • apparently too much wind this day LOL

  • Living on the edge? Ok.. how bout this Fface... a race where those who arrive in LAST PLACE WIN! The winners win who took their time getting to the freaking party.. ok?

  • usually they end up upside down and get towed in to dock, then a crane helps right them :-)

  • how do u uncapsize thos big ass things?

  • how many knows???????

  • I don't know about using that opening sequence of Alinghi going over all the time is a good idea. It makes the vids all feel the same. It is spectacular, you don't want to make the new vids feel old.

  • Hmm, maybe just release the main sheet line?

  • Best thing to do is turn more downwind (falloff) which the skipper did. Just too much wind...boat was overpowered.

  • turn (upwind)

  • In a cat you turn downwind on a reach, to avoid flying a hull at precisely the time you don't want to. The boat accelerates, but stays flat. If he was beating he might turn into the wind. But in this example he is not.

  • release the mainsheet and the boom lifts and the mainsail powers up and can drive you into a nosedive or capsize. Instead you must release the main traveller to ease the main - maintain the flatness and shape of the sail. Also bear away to get the wind behind you. Keep racing speed, get sorted then get your course back.

  • theyre in a boat like that and they cant read the gusts coming??? im seen better from first year seas scouts!! how do you get the boat back the right way??

  • I thought you were a pro?! pfff very constructive comment of yours...

  • Listen, I dont know how much sailing experience you have but from my experience I can say that they're doing a hell of a job. Hats off to them b/c it aint that simple

  • wow that would suck i dont know anything about righting a cat but it seems like it would be hard

  • lol righting THAT 40 foot monster cat is a completely different story. jesus christ that would be a nightmare !

  • Life at the extreme :) I love it. If your not living on the edge your taking up too much space...

  • Quello che vola in acqua è il 5° uomo.. Quello a penzoloni è bravo a mettere i piedi sul boma e salire sul trampolino rovesciato dalla base dell'albero. Ed Baird, Rodney Ardern, Lorenzo Mazza e Piet van Nieuwenhuijzen winner of the iShare cup!

    And Volvo Ocean Race? :-P

  • That must be a sinking feeling to watch your mast blub, blub, blub.. 8 - ( .

Righting the boat, although a difficult task is easy in procedure. you bring in the sails, tie the hiking wires to a line spread by a pole, and route it over the the windward hull, and over the bottom of the boat to the other side. Then beg someone with a good size speed boat to pull you back up. Lick your wounds back at the bar, over a couple of drinks.

  • On a small cat this is right. There is no hiking on these cats. They use a rib to right them. Not very hard to do.

  • how do they right them after????

  • Lugano is beautiful!

  • There is nothing like Valencia!!!
