  • 8digitPDX Good point..

  • I tried this one summer, living out of what was then a brand new car so I would not look homeless and figured out that I was spending more money on gas and eating out than if I had just gotten a room rental somewhere and stayed put and cooked at home.

  • What a coward, carrying a gun..

  • @masteroflife777 No, a realist.

  • Combine living in a car and investing all your "savings" then why not

  • This don't make sense. If he choose to live in his car, and he could spend more money on a car, why in the world don't he use a cheap camper van?? That would be A LOT more comfy (a bed, cooking possibility, and so on). Also, does he drive so much that he can't afford the extra gas? Again, this don't make sense. BTW, I stay away from people who are armed (like this man).

  • @Acetoxy That's a pretty narrow-minded point of view. There are tons of responsible citizens who are armed. They do this for protection. People do break into cars, and bad things do happen to good people. If it came down to saving your own life, you wouldn't take the life of another? You have to think about the possibility, not only if yo're living in your car, but anywhere. It could happen to anyone. That being said, not everyone is mature enough or responsible enough to carry one.

  • DUDE. If you make a video about the fact that you live in your car, people might KINDA WANT TO SEE IT!!!

  • At least dump the Kia and get a Diesel VW Westfalia camper van.

  • Jasson Bowman sleeps in his car. He spends the money he saves on worthwhile things:

How about a windshield thats NOT cracked?

  • Ricky Trailer Park Boys does the same thing

  • living out of your car isn't exactly "off grid"....

  • how long can you stay in a walmart parking lot?

  • how do those single ladies like your car?

  • 43mpg: But you live in A CAR, not a van or a camper/rv.

So you sacrifice comfort for fuel savings (money savings)

Then you store your stuff in a HUGE garage which means two things:

    1) You live nearby or visit the garage fairly regularly.

    2) You're SPENDING money to store your stuff in that garage

So the MPG savings goes to pay for your garage?

I'd rather live in an RV (14mpg) with all my necessary stuff (sell what I dont need) and maybe get a TINY storage locker (midwest usa).

    Think about it

  • What address is listed on your Driver's License if you have no place of residence? What happens if you want to order something that isn't delivered to a PO box? Do you eat all your meals out if you have no kitchen/refrigerator?

  • @apkpicker At the UPS Store you can get a "mail box" that has a street address - they're made for home businesses that don't want their customers to know their real street address. All major shipping companies deliver to the UPS Store - just like any other address. You can use this address for anything that requires an address - driver's license, registration, insurance, etc. Anyone who thinks having a "place of residence" is mandatory is incorrect.

  • @apkpicker there is a such thing as fresh food. You don't need a fridge to prepare food. It can be and is done all the time (there are people who survive in the world without all of the luxuries that we enjoy). As someone else mentioned, a UPS box gives a physical address. You may have to use someone else's address as your original address, but it's easy to get around if you really want to do it.

  • What is your car?

  • isnt storage a couple hundred bucks a month? if so that is about what i pay in rent.

  • @briangunn21 Dude I can get 3 storage units for only $21.00 a month.

  • @27ljta $30 a month for a gym membership so you can take a shower seems pretty fair and frugal. a dollar a day for a shower is too much?

  • Is it really illegal to sleep in your car, what the fuck is wrong with America besides everything. Proof that America is turning into a capitalist dictatorship. We can't all afford a house or expensive ass rent!

  • @PDigital2o3 : America is a double standard country. It's illegal to sleep in your OWN car. How funny that the US government treat their citizens like criminals. But they turn around and give illegal aliens special treatment. Illegal aliens break our laws by sneaking over the borders. They get FREE benefits. Free medical care, free education, free or low cost housing for them and their anchor babies. No wonder the USA is going broke. Illegal aliens are leeching off the system.

  • @27ljta Try the YMCA.

  • @27ljta Truck stops like Loves, Pilot, Petro etc etc have clean showers and they even have laundromats to wash your clothes. They also have launges where you can chat and watch tv.

  • Would be tons of fun raising kids in the back seat....

  • @relicright That's why you buy a trailor.... duh.

  • @SublimeSati Your right there's tons of trailers to buy to tow with a small car.

  • @relicright Which then takes away most of the maneuverability of the car and vastly limits your parking options, but this guy half lives out of a storage unit where I would guess there is more security than a trailer on the street. Some people do the same thing here in Portland, even napping in their storage lockers when they did not get a good night's sleep in their car or shopping cart based "bugout rig"

  • What does he do for a living I'm wondering?

  • You can shit at the mall/ shell station/ anywhere lol

  • @27ljta Truck stops off of interstates. Maps I think got them even marked where they are. They're the best for showers. Truck stops even got laundromats to wash clothes. But that's only if you got a car, van, or a truck.

  • idk u can just find a girlfriend and live with her ya psycho...

  • depends on your state i dont know what your state is but most cops are pretty ignorant and need educated so they will hassle you and car carrying is a little different than regular open carry in a car the gun must be in plain sight wether you have a permit to conceal or not and it cant be loaded. thats just in open carry states in other states its way worse. and stores will hassle you and sometimes ban you from shopping or coming on their property

  • @bluemew88888 furthermore if you do go on their property again even with no sings posted you can be arrested for tresspassing so if you carry in stores you need to carry concealed so they dont see it but if you carry concealed you need a permit otherwise its illegal. here we made wendys and walmart allow us in their places with guns cause we knew the laws and called headquarters and complained bout violated rights and what dave thomas and sam walton thought bout guns so hassle but it up to you

  • @bluemew88888 i recommend u visit opencarry website google it. ive been member there awhile. i used to open carry a 9mm makarov but sold it do to finances. but i still have protection while living in my cadillac. i have a stun gun, pepper spray, camera, lockable doors and who knows what they may get over the head if someone breaks into my car. i do think i should start carrying again since being a homeless gay man is dangerous, but at same time i feel safe, secure and content with what i got.

  • @bluemew88888 Most of this is incorrect. It does depend on the state, but the part about cops being ignorant about the laws? Dude, they have to study law and deal with it every day. They aren't just put out there. Besides, if you're not doing anything illegal, you won't get in trouble. If you have a concealed permit, it DOES NOT have to be in plain sight. In some states, i.e. Colorado you can carry a loaded handgun in your car out of plain sight even without a concealed permit.

  • @jbenn88 cops dont know the law im a criminal justice student as is all my family my best friend is a grad. here all you got to do to become a cop is go to boot camp for short period and pass a written/physical test thats it. no extensive law learning is done.

  • @bluemew88888 For the last part, do your research and if you choose to stay in the parking lot of a business make sure they allow this, such as most wal marts who are okay with it, assuming it will contribute to their business which is true most of the time.

  • @jbenn88 thats common knowledge

  • so much for living off the grid, how much fossil fuel does this guy burn everyday so he can have a different view. He also has more crap in his storage unit then my husband and i have in our home. As a person who gave up car ownership 5 + years ago for a simpler life i have a hard time with his claiming he is saving money.

  • I use to live this way I drove trucks for a living so why pay rent for a week home? I had a unit at the Uhaul they even would get some of my mail for me. It worked for me when I would get a few days off I would rent a motel just some cheap place where I could go swimming and that is what I did I visited places like NASA ride my bike when it was done I would go back to work trade fun stuff for work stuff go get another truck and earn another $5K. Spending less than $400 a month for all living?

  • @cdltpx One problem when the truck was flipped by a tornado I had no place to stay I would not sleep in a car I would have to make too many adjustments so I popped a tent on the company grounds terminal manager said go for it. I did that a couple of weekends but really freaked out when there was a heavy storm and the tent blew and contorted I got so wet . And after surviving a tornado still injured I had a hard time dealing with bad weather still do ten years later.

  • this isn't off the grid. this is off your friggin rocker

  • That Saturn SL is a great car for sleeping in when you put the rear seats down.

  • Well the main reason to know is so you can get one too, but to be honest, i forgot. I think it might be a Datsun Cherry, but you can find out for sure by looking in my book OFF THE GRID - Inside the Movement.... (Penguin 2010)

    Thanks

    Nick

  • @offgridnick Q: To carry a firearm or not? Is it a problem (with police) to walk around any state with a lic'd pistol in a hip holster, in full view of the public?

  • @LuckyGuu it varies from state to state here in my home state WV, and in my friend's state VA its fully legal to open carry (hoster carry if gun is visible and you dont even need to have a permit but if you dont want hasseled the best thing to do is pay the 200$ get the permit and carry concealed.

  • @bluemew88888 what do you mean, "if you don't want hasseled"? What would people say or do? You could just respond, "it's legal dude, you should have one too!"

  • @offgridnick yo what are the laws of carrying a firearm in your car if youre living in it?

  • I want to know what mid 90's car he's driving that get 43 miles to the gallon...until someone can prove what he says is true, it's nothing more then 'he said, she said'...if you get my point...

  • Everybody seems to be freaking out about this. Where does he go to the bathroom? A toilet, most of the time I'm guessing. He's getting gas. Gas stations have toilets. So sanitary are we? Antibiotic soap in the kitchen? I think we who live close to earth and ourselves, know more and will outlive you nabmy pamby condom wearing (even when you're not having sex)fruit cakes. Sometimes, I sleep on the ground!! Sometimes I even take a bath in your drinking water. HaHa.

  • its definitely not a healthy or safe lifestyle.

  • Why doesn't he fix his broken windshield? Isn't that illegal and unsafe? I bet he smells bad. This isn't living off the grid, it is being so cheap it is a sickness.

  • @johnmonk66 i didn't realize that you set the standard of living. what is sick is when you impose what you believe on others. if they live in there car you are still better off then a couple billion people. stop trolling

  • @FUNisUnderRated shut the fuck up moron

  • I noticed he had no wife/gf.

  • @CitizenKane380 BINGO !

I HAVE A HOUSE, SMALL, BUT AT LEAST I GET LAID !

  • Where does he go to the bathroom? All that seems a bit extreme.

Why not have a little place within walking distance from your work?

  • @CitizenKane380 That's what I was thinking, or at least rent a room in someone's house. Seems like that would be a lot cheaper than renting on his own, and make for a CLEANER environment.

  • 'for an american household' lol

in all seriousness though, this guy is awesome

  • You rock BRO, I plan on RV living when I retire, maybe sooner?

  • Where does he go to sleep if his car is on the fritz and in the shop ?

  • i've thought about sleeping in my car as opposed to staying in a hotel. too bad it's against the law. it's cool to see he is doing it anyways.

  • Good for you Nick, many [including myself] are beginning to consider an alternative lifestyle.

  • and with the money you save over rent or mortgage you can get a new winshild and some silver coins

  • @davidrrrd lmao

  • @davidrrrd yea new windshield for sure
