I have to say I think people are being a bit unfair about this guitar. Everyone knows that Custom Shop guitars are a rip off. All of them are, not just this one. At least this time they created something really cool. I bet for every unit they've sold about ten people have made their own guitar inspired by this one. It's probably the best original guitar they've made for about four or five decades! I'm about to order the parts to build mine. Cheers Mike!
"Cobranita"????? LOL!!!! First why did Fender name a guitar using a slang term for 'fucker'? Then bastardizing it by not even using it properly. So in a white man's lame attempt to use a spanish term they named a guitar 'little whore'...or 'little slut'! All they needed to do was take a walk through the assembly line and ...I know this is hard for corporate to do...talk with the Latino's that put these things together for them. And come up with a more dignified name for a Fender.
I'll say that the Fender boys have obviously had some type of infarction. What a badass guitar and stupid ass ridiculous price tag. Been playing Fenders since '87 - screw you guys for not pricing this thing right.
@MGD326 well, that's who fender & gibson now make axes for, drs & lawyers, COLLECTORS who do NOT rely on them to make their living, much less actually PLAY them any better that the next hobbyist...
I'll say that the Fender boys have obviously had some type of infarction. What a badass guitar and stupid ass ridiculous price tag. Been playing Fenders since '87 - screw you guys for not pricing this thing right.
A collector/player and a player are usually on the opposite ends of disposable income... In this case, the $4800.00 investment may be worth it in 20 years. I've got a black one pick up and I'm thinking it'l be worth it. Cheers Fender Custom Shop, cheers! Mike does need to at least pronounce the name right though :-(
I love this guitar...but only if it was about $499 MIM. With a name like Cabronita (not Cobranita) you'd think it would be fitting to be made there. How about it Fender...how about a MIM Cabronita?
Sorry, but all the hoopla over this guitar is bullshit! What? - I'm supposed to get excited about a TV Jones pickup dropped in 50 bucks of nothing-special, "distressed" wood? I was dumb enough to buy several custom-shop guitars years ago and I gig with only one of them, today. Most of my gigging guitars came right off the rack and I couldn't be happier. My American Standard Tele would hold it's own quite nicely against this poser!
I'd like a custom one of these. Black Korina Body. Natural/Clear Gloss Finish Red Tortoise shell pickguard Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard (10-16 Radius) LSR Roller Nut Sperzel Tuners Black Body binding Seymour Duncan Invader Humbucker (Bridge) Fernandes Single-Coil Sustainer (Neck) Recessed (Floating) Wilkinson VS-100 2 additional miniswitches for Fernandes sustainer pickup 1 master volume and master 1 tone for Seymour Duncan Invader Wouldn't that be awesome? =P
No offense man, but I think you should have had Mike Lewis at Gretsch demo it, he's an amazing player and might have impressed people a tad more. And yeah I know its very very limited, but way to pricey. Concept is cool though.
I want this really badly, but I know, no matter how nice it is, and no matter how much id love it, its not worth 6 grand. no way. That price is ridiculous. Fender, i love you, i love your guitars, but seriously, throw us a bone here. 6 grand for that? come on now.
@jalbertochavez I personally think that "la cabronita" it's a bit closer to "the little fu**er" in it's femenine form, so for practical means little bitch works better in context.
still a bold name for such a minimalistic yet expensive guitar
Relicing seems mostly for posers. If you whip out a guitar that looks like it's been played for decades and your playing sucks--you're a schmuck. Reliced guitars are like reliced jeans--for people with too much money and too little good taste.
What the hell is going with Fender they seem to have really gone over board with their pricing and this guitar is not worth $6,000 I dont give shit what custom shop it came from. The parts body and neck are made by a machine are you fucking with me. YOu can have a master make you a guitar for your hands and playing style for that price. To think when it first came out it was called the canoe paddle and now its $6K. IHow about inproving the quality for the day to day guitar.
@BluesHeavy Fender's Custom Shop has been overcharging for years. They're also following Gibson's lead following the success of the product placement game advertisement known as Guitar Hero. And the 'relic'ing of a guitar just simply does not impress me. I was hoping Fender would stay gunshy of overcharging like Gibson, but they haven't. And Mike, try cranking the damned thing, I'm tired of hearing everyone do rockabilly crap just because it's a Tele/Gretsch pickup.
i tried one when i was in the Statesa few weeks ago.its no better than any humbucker equipped tele, the neck is to wide in my opinion and as anyone with common sense will know, its not for jobbing/semi pro guitarists
the whole reason an old beat up guitar is cool is because it used to be shiny and new and then you played it a ton over the course of many years(not being afraid to take it to gigs, etc.) buying a factory distressed instrument is like buying jeans with holes already in them or getting hair extensions. the real thing is cool, but buying it like that for the look without the time or experience it takes for the real thing is lame. but that's my opinion you can always buy a brand new pre rusted car.
totally agree, plus the life of a factory "relic" is more than likely shortened because of all of the work done to it. the artist models like claptons "blackie" in my opinion are a waste of money. they look and sound awesome, but how long will they last? the longer you play any guitar the more stress you put on it. there is a reason why clapton retired his.
Obviously the aging appeals to many customers. Aging is an expensive, time-consuming process and Fender wouldn't bother with it, if it didn't sell. It definately appeals to me, not only because I think it looks cool, but also feels great and sounds great (cracked and sanded down finishes seem to let the gitars "breathe" more)
If it's not your taste, you are free to purchase any guitar that looks sparkling new, Fender and every other company still offer those lots of those, too ;-)
So people aren't afraid to dig into their instruments or to take them out to gigs , jams, and anywhere else a brand new shiny guitar might get left behind for.
This $5k guitar sure doesn't look like anything special...but does it ever rip.
You are clearly very special. When you have developed enough to be able to spell basic words, maybe i'll take you seriously. Then again, probably not.
Looks amazing, specially the shoreline gold version, imo. Honestly I'm in love with it... would be great to see a "made in Mexico" model of the Cabronita Especial coming out.
geez learn to pronounce the name of the guitar that you've designed.
