Forget all those kooky statements about fucking, this is one of very few Desmond interviews, and he is all there in this one: deferential, classy, articulate, gentle. If you want to hear Desmond at his best, you can listen to him with Brubeck, or, and I prefer this, listen to him in Toronto at Bourbon Street with Ed Bickert, Don Thompson, and Jerry Fuller. Surely one of the shining moments in the history of jazz.
@604460 I agree! But we cannot put the sexy statements aside...you see, desmond was a sexy beast. I would've preferred him in the 50's when he looked his best ;)
@Yesiilikedrumso0 Yes! He was still a nice-looking guy when he was 50. But with alcohol and tobacco, I think that he aged too quickly. He is nice-looking here but he has the face of a 60 years old guy. Don't you think?
this girl is so beautiful and sexy !! but she never...never ...supposed to talk to Paul desmond that he was very nervous !! he was a legend!! and everybody knew about his breath problems ..because the lung cancer!!! this girl was so insensitive !!! and so ridiculous !!!! FUCK HER !!!
I will echo the "priceless" sentiment. Nothing exists of Paul Desmond speaking, making this a wonderful piece for any Desmond fan, or real jazz fan for that matter.
YOU'RE a BITCH! Mysoginist!!

Ah the good old days, when CBC TELEVISION deemed jazz worthy of exposure. Sadly this seems to be impossible in our 500 channel universe.

This was just a year before he passed away from lung cancer.
A true jazz "gentleman" and incredible talent.
