There is such a thing as a safe dose for all different types of drugs you idiot otherwise they are called poisons and no one would take them.
McCain, you are a dumb piece of shit. The only reasons you are for keeping marijuana illegal while keeping alcohol legal (which is totally inconsistent since alcohol is the more socially damaging drug) is that you are too conventional and stupid to think for yourself and because you want to win votes.
John McCain, you are almost as big a piece of horseshit as that hypocritical (I can do drugs because I am special, but you cannot) house nigger Obama.

I'd be more afraid of someone drunk than someone high though being high doesn't immunise you from doing stupid things. The thing about alcohol is that you can't grow it at home, marijuana you can grow it at home...I wonder how many non-violent offenders are in jail because they inhaled a joint though at not harming others. Quite often there is stigma that all pot smokers are black gangsters...Riiight.
But McCain is not pushing to make getting drunk illegal, is he? Sure, maybe it takes a little longer to get drunk on alcohol. But the point is that if it is legal to get drunk on alcohol, why shouldn't it be legal to get high on cannabis? To be consistent, he would have to want to make drunkeness illegal.

i love to hear cops talking like this its like a very brief, but totally pure and beautiful moment of lucidity before an instantaneous relapse into the fog and corruption of our nations failed drug policy. it infuriates me to hear mccain talking and saying he understands while he clearly couldn't be more parochial on the subject. I couldnt imagine that brave cop taking mccains words of "i will do whatever i can to help you " as anything less than a disgusting insult to cops everywhere. Fuck him
"One or two drinks does not impair judgment". What a useless statement. What the hell is a "drink" anyway. 2 shots of 191 will definitely impair your judgment unless you weigh a half a ton.
in arazona and all over the usa first time drug offenders have the chance to go to rehab or go to jail for a few days.... what would you choose? probley rehab....right?
knowing this. when this guy talkes or any other politision (i cant spell, yea i know!)
and uses the statistic that " the proof is in the amount of people who go to rehab!" , and also " pot is addictive look! (statistic of people who went to rehab )" how does it not make sence to people that they are talking out of there ass???
@MungJuice123 No... In Arizona you can do 6 to 8 years of your life for a single joint... and many have! They have a no tolerance policy.
It is for this reason that we need to legalize marijuana.
In California they had the same policy in place for years! At $42K a year to lock up someone! Now California is broke! Was it worth it? How many lives were ruined? How many can never get it back together after such an experience?
"I think most experts would say" is just like saying... "I am not a professional, I know nothing about this, but I am going to pull fake information out of my old crusty a**hole"
politicians can't openly accept this best option publicly, i.e. legalizing drugs.
because they'd lose votes. and that's more important to them then doing the right thing on any one issue. they have to think of the bigger picture, they have a huge number of issues they want to get done, and they think in numbers.
to do right by one issue and fail to get voted into office, which allows them to do good on 100 issues, and if nobody is brave enough and smart enough to take that first step. well
mccain is a dumbass. its because of close minded people like him America wasted over TRILLION dollars on the drug war with absolutely no positive results.
i can hop in the car, drive a couple blocks down the road and purchase any drug i want RIGHT NOW and give my money to criminals and the cartel.
if drugs are legalized all this money can go to the government and this country will make BILLIONS of dollars to go to a positive use besides i should b able to put whatever i want into my body
@specialK312 Your body belongs to you. Your parents let you go a long time ago. The U.S. Constitution is only there to protect your inalienable rights. What the U.S. Government does with regard to private ingestion of material you deem acceptable is Illegal. This is so obvious to anyone out of the parental nest. Regulating intoxication can only be done with private rules.
This is a very important video. it shows how disillusioned McCain is about drugs and society - notice how he shirks the issue by thanking the audience. Bravo to the cop who stands up and expresses the need for drug legalization.
im so glad we have law enforcement officers that have this view. it is absolutely rediculous to think that prohibition is working. SO MANY DEATHS SO MANY JAILED for no legitimate reason. in the early nineteen hundreds drugs were legal, and were there gangs, drug cartels or any of the problems we have today because of this so called drug war? FACE IT YOUR WAR ON DRUGS HAS FAILED MISERABLY.
I love it when he says "most experts would agree". BULLSHIT! The only thing experts agree on is the fact the cannabis is FAR less harmful than most other legal drugs.
I bet McCain uses pot to help with the pain in his arm....but like all republicans....they say whatever they need to say to get re-elected, as opposed to being a true leader with independent ideas.
"It's gonna take alot before I adopt your viewpoint"
The conservative position in a nutshell.
I just don't see why people would clap at such a statement! It's nothing other than an avowal of his unwillingness to change his mind. Such inflexibility is deemed a virtue amongst conservatives, and it's saddening.
Conservatives have grudgingly given in on hundreds of other issues; racial equality, sexual liberty, women's rights, but they fight it all the way. They deem progress an ugly word. Tiring.
It's finally being recognised that this perpetual war has been an abject failure. But McCain is symptomatic of the right's failure to formulate rational and reasonable attitudes to the problem.
God I hate how stupid the monkeys who clapped when he said 'It would take alot for me to change". They dont know anything, they cannot even think for themselves. The war on drugs goes beyond a simple Legal or illegal label. Its about someone else dictating what you can and cannot consume on this earth. If what you consume stays within your own body, and isnt affecting someone elses 'pursuit of happiness' than NOBODY has a right to tell you you cannot do drugs.
And the conservative position on drug legality is so completely against the grain of their supposed libertarianism! Freedom from state intervention is sacrosanct to them, and yet they embark on this costly and pointless crusade, allowing narcotics police to invade the civil freedom of millions. Big government is anathema to them, and yet they build a narcotics wing large enough to goven a medium-sized country!
McCain basically says, "I want to thank you for being a great cop and say that I respect you. However, fuck you. I will never consider your rational viewpoint because it would be bad for my career. I have no morals. Only greed for increased power."
Our government higher-ups & politicians make BIG money by having drugs illegal. They couldn't make that money with legalized drugs. The prison system itself is a money making scheme. In fact, it's a very big profit organization that provides jobs for many politician's & government higher-up's family & friends. If drugs were legalized, 80% of those prison jobs & billions of dollars worth of funding would just evaporate! It's not for punishment or rehabilitation, it's for profits & employment.
McCain, and just look at all the bills he constantly introduces or endorses or votes upon, is a greater threat to our liberties than all of the Muslim terrorists combined.
it's good for the mafias who manage it, and it is good for the Bureaucrats, if drugs were legalized, the DEA would be worthless and it would disappear, of course they don't want drugs legal! I mean, they would loose billions on dollars.
they care more about the money than the actual people consuming drugs.
I really can't wait for this generation to just die off, it's the only way there's ever going to any real change..............once these children of the "Reefer Madness" generation are gone this country will be alot better off. Until that time, they'll bog down any real progress, with their "we've got to protect everyone from themselves" mindset, as if.........WTF?
Pull your goddam heads out of your collective asses people....old bastards make wanna punch the wall.
Who the fuck are these experts that he presumes to speak for anyhow, I'm sure they all agree.....pfft. Gimme a break with that tired bullshit. These "facts" that these so called 'experts" agree on are nothing more than his OPINION.....completely based on feeling, not backed up by facts in the slightest. If anything, his statements couldn't be farther from the truth. Those vast generalizations are so ignorant, just flat out IGNORANT
The "controllers" really did a number on this guy when he was supposedly in the Hanoi Hilton........I really think he's of those poor souls that went through mind control programs, they implanted the whole "prisoner of war' memory.
How else could someone be so completely and utterly blind to the epic failure on this country's drug policies. No matter what kind of information is shoved down their throat they refuse to swallow. They cling to their moral high ground regardless of the facts.
That bumbling, incoherent, ill informed, lying, son-of-a-bitch..........his blanket allegations of effects of "drugs" as being immediate and leading to "problems" down the road is absolutely idiotic, almost beyond retarded really. In the very same sentence he gives a free pass to alcohol, saying that in moderation it's OK.....as if alcoholism isn't one of this country's biggest "drug' problems, both socially and economically. What a fucking hypocrite!
McCain says, and I quote....."I've heard the comparison between drugs and alcohol........and I think most experts would say that in moderation, one or two drinks of alcohol, does not have an effect on ones judgement, mental acuity or physical abilities" he goes on to make another equally moronic and statement.........."I think most experts would say that first ingestion the THE DRUGS leads to mind altering and effects and can lead over time to serious problems"
Could McCain be any more out of touch? Thank God "the Manchurian Candidate" didn't get elected, this country would really be screwed right now, he actually thinks that throwing everyone that does drugs in jail or rehab is a realistic approach to the "drug problem"......what a fucking mental midget.
First time offenders should be given the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves? WTF?
A living dinosaur here folks, a throwback to the days of Ozzie and Harriot, time to retire gramps
Mr. McCain, methamphetamines are legal. In fact, they are used for treatment of ADHD, narcolepsy and obesity. Meth also kills thousands of people each year, directly and indirectly. marijuana has never been a direct cause of any deaths. The drug war has caused indirect deaths to soar.
ALCOHOL, statistics prove that it's not the right choice for a whole lot of people, common sense and intelligence ask why is it the only legal choice for all the people.
Personally, I am curious as to how much of the taxpayers money our government spent on the commission that gave us what is commonly referred to as the Schafer Drug Report, what gives them the right to not only intentionally ignore it, but refuse to allow it as evidence in the court of law?
He is right about alcohol in moderation, the problem is that way to many people don't have enough common sense to know what moderation is or the intelligence to know when to quit.
But I do. And I am supposed to be free. Why can't I have some cannabis in my garden? I fought for this country, I vote, I'm in college now...what's wrong with me having it?
I was being sarcastic of John McCain's comments. In my opinion if our elected officials are so sure that they are right in their opinion as to what we as citizens can possess in order to be considered law abiding, respectable, and responsible citizens than the least they can do is to treat people with dignity and respect by accepting responsibility for the damages and deaths associated with alcohol.
Shit, Alcohol kills more than all illegal drugs combined all on it's own... Tobacco kills more than Alcohol and all drugs combined. And I mean ALL drugs, heroin, cocaine, pcp, what the hell ever.
I wish the cop had brought up cannabis specifically. When you're debating the legality of a substance, you must look: are people dying and/or getting hurt when using a substance? Are people hurt as a result of other people using it? Marijuana has never killed anyone, yet alcohol continues to kill hundreds of thousands of people every fucking year.
when you have a highly desired product you will never keep it from the people who want it. it's that simple. all you do is provide opportunity and LOTS of money for criminals.
make drugs illegal then organized crime provide them. organized crime requires protection, meaning guns, so even though guns are illegal for criminals, they still get it, again from the black market. Legalize and regulate drugs and a lot of problems will be strongly decrease.
I love it when a politician gets challenged by a calm, intelligent person. It reminds me of a deer in the head lights. On David Nutt's dangerous drug list alcohol was ranked 5th, tobacco 9th, and cannabis 11th. McCain's view points are archaic, and are the cause of many unjust incarcerations in our "FREE" nation. Tides are shifting though. People in power are not as closed minded as they once where. They see things in reality that lawmakers may never see.
If drugs are legalized and controlled, the 'street dealer' will go out of business. People would never buy anything questionable off the street if there were garanteed pure and effective substances to be found at clinics or institutions, who could be held responsible for negligence.
Anything you make illegal will open a black market, causing crime, poverty, and above all violence due to controlling territory and supply. Controlled legalization of drugs in America would benefit the world.
I think that McCain is representing an old mentality, of people who are completely ignorant of drugs other than the propeganda and info-tainment they read/see on the TV. His statement of areas in Europe where drugs have been legalized, having been "closed down" from negative effects is completely ignorant of the truth. He is only seeing the tiny minority of hurt, to the vast majority of benefit. He is also ignoring the other factors that may play into the negative effects such as poverty.
Every single last "law" that the government has laid down should be taken to the polls. It is a country by the people for the people right? Hmm, considering the majority of Americans want it legalized, I guess not.
McCain and his daughter are both puppets for special interest groups, they do not represent Americans best interest.
If abortions didn't exist Republicans would lose 80% of supporters, we the people are looking for selfless representation nowadays, sorry liars your days are all numbered.
"All laws that can be violated without doing any injuury to any person are laughed at" Spinoza The crap hes saying here abouyt the mexican crateks is ironic considering the drug policies created, funded and empowered them
They really have none... their method is to use the interstate commerce clause which gives them jurisdiction over just that... So marijuana is only legal with a special federal stamp.. that doesn't exist. This is especially ridiculous considering they use this justification to outlaw possession, use, and even growing it in your own home. Most laws on the books would be thrown out by anyone with respect for the constitution.
Their logic under "interstate commerce" is that drugs legal in a state *could* enter into illegal interstate commerce, therefore they can outlaw it altogether.
But if you apply that logic fully, it means there is *no* limit whatsoever to what the Fed can justify regulating.
sure....for thinking of a better idea? The war on drugs is a failed war. We have lost trillions of dollars and the drug cartels are growing stronger! We lose money, crime grows, kids selling/using drugs. If we legalized it, it would be harder for kids to get, we would profit, be more informed on overdoses and dangers (through new legal studies). Sure....he should be fired. You are a complete idiot.
Oh yeah? Why do you say that? Is it because his opinion doesn't fit in with what you believe? I advise you to do more research and maybe you would see why he has such an opinion. google LEAP.
the reason we cant legalize drugs or even marijuana is because then we wouldn't be able to funnel billions of dollars every year on the war on drugs. We wouldnt be able to hold non-violent offenders in prison for slave labor. Prohibition never works - drug dealers dont ask for id. Drug dealers dont pay taxes - as for john mccain - he should know what alcohol prohibition did ahahah (joke on his age... )
How come 1 or 2 drinks of an alcoholic beverage can get you thrown in jail if you get behind the wheel. The double standard on drugs are if they are FDA approved, then its OK to get it from your local drug cartel of the 21st century. Your Doc, CVS, Walgreens, Wallmart, etc.
When Prohibition was introduced, I hoped that it would be widely supported by public opinion and the day would soon come when the evil effects of alcohol would be recognized. I have slowly and reluctantly come to believe that this has not been the result. Instead, drinking has generally increased;...a vast army of lawbreakers has appeared; many of our best citizens have openly ignored Prohibition; ...; and crime has increased to a level never seen before.
TRUTH, Spain, Dercimed, less crimes, teen use in half, free treatment, and drug courts to deal with each specific users needs.
TRUTH, Portugal 9 years Decrimed. teen use down, violence/crimes 1/2 and more socal services to help users. just voted to keep the current laws!
TRUTH, Netherlands, we all know, 1/2 our teen usage rate, 1/2 our usage rates, closing 8 prisons due to lack of criminals and crimes. Taxed and regulated.
@eatwoodman Thank you! Alcohol over-dosage can kill as you prob. know and you can certainly die from alcohol WITHDRAWAL too. And I'm sure you know both coke and heroin withdrawal CAN'T kill you.
Maybe that's because they are trying to get money to buy crack at a price that is artificially inflated by prohibition. If it were legal maybe they wouldn't need to break in to your car to be able to buy crack.
Besides it's not like prohibition is stopping them from getting crack now right? Most people would not start smoking crack just because it's legal.
I have to disagree with you sir, legalizing drugs would put a major dent in the wallets of gangs. By eliminating a large source of income for these gangs, they will a lot of power and resources. Keeping drugs illegal and even increasing prison sentences is the same as supporting/contributing to the black market.
We can better regulate all drugs by making them legal, regulating them, and actively and accurately teaching of the destruction that they can bring to your body.
I live in Arizona. All the initiatives passed have had to do with getting tougher on first time offenders. I've never heard anything about rehabilitation, let alone giving first timers a clean record. Did Mccain just pull all of that out of his ass to make himself look good? Nobody ever calls anybody on stuff like this.
meth in this country is used for heroin addiction already legally in meth clinics.... with is funny when people start talking about legalizing marijuana even medical marijuana people get up in arms about it yet we treat one addictive drug with another and yet marijuana has never been proven to be addictive
If the Republican party wants to return to power they should jump on the anti-prohibition band wagen. All drugs, available in all states in the US. Those of you that want to keep prohibition please sit down, get out your checkbook and write a check to the DEA for $233.33, that is your share of the $67,000,000,000 it costs to fight the war on drugs every year.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
im not for leglizing all drugs but some arent as bad as others such as marijuana but i do realise extensive use of marijuana is just as bad as any other drug
Wow, all those people clapped and laughed when McCain said it'd take a lot for him to adopt the cop's viewpoint. I guess that about sums up how smart McCain people are.
john you ass-hole, you know that your responsible for METH, all you need to do is make ephedine (used for meth production) available only thru prescription and that would slow meth production, you people created meth and you can get rid of it!?
meth was created long b4 the war on drugs...Hitler was addicted to it & soldiers on both sides (US & Germany) were given meth to fight fatigue...do your research b4 posting
First time offenders should be given an opportunity to go into rehab???? BS, Mr. McSame.
They should be given the opportunity to live freely.
Listening to the crap that falls out of this 'mccain' guys mouth is just sad.
I think Meth should be included in legal drugs. I think that would prevent some people from going in, laying their name on the line (to a databse) at the checkout and buying it.
Most of the 'ruff' drugs would pan out that way imho. Hard users do not want to be ID'ed.
Thats what the prohibition would consist of......getting people help they need and the information they need to know about the drugs they use. The problem is that drugs are illegal....if they were "legal" , no drug will ever be "legal" only regulated, like alcohol. People wont get help now cause drugs are illegal. If drugs were regulated people would be able to get the help they need without being prosecuted. Mccain is the same though!!
b4 prohibiion when heroin, cocaine, marijuana, etc etc were legal to buy at any pharmacy over the counter no questions asked, America had 1/10th the drug use that it has today
Wake up people Alcohol & Tobacco r just as much drugs & more dangerous than many illegal drugs; John McCain is full of shit & has no idea what he is talking about, thank god he isn't our president
Actually im unaffiliated...democrat, republican, liberal, conservative are all terms that mean absolutely nothing to me. I vote based on who i see as having good intentions not based on what party they are affiliated with.
Ron Paul should have won..he is a strict constitutionist (like the people who started our country) & would have restored the very rights that the Patriot Act took away from us.
Continue living in your box...ill continue thinking outside the box
Truth be told none of those canidates were very good for the postion, but McCain was/is so much better than them all. Everyone is going to come to senses that Obama is the Anit- Christ, and he is going to destroy the US. Everyone just wait and see okay!
@egillelan why should it be illegal if the people do it in their how home NOT hurting themselves or others why is it your business what they do!!!! plus they are going to do it anyways
@christianz2010 I'm not sure which side you'r on. It should not be illegal. What you do is none of anyones business as long as you are not affecting others in a negative way. I have been smoking for 38 years and am a member of LEAP, NORML and about three other organisations trying to make it legal so no one has to worry about getting busted like I did.
So yes McCain is either ignorant or an just an asshole. You decide
I made a Pro Marijuana video about two years ago if you are interested.
@christianz2010 Sorry I misunderstood you and I wasn't trying to be offensive. I checked out your channel and it's very clear, we are on the same side. Peace...Eddie
McCain is insane. 100% pure tool.

knowing this. when this guy talkes or any other politision (i cant spell, yea i know!)
and uses the statistic that " the proof is in the amount of people who go to rehab!" , and also " pot is addictive look! (statistic of people who went to rehab )" how does it not make sence to people that they are talking out of there ass???
MungJuice123 1 year ago
@MungJuice123 No... In Arizona you can do 6 to 8 years of your life for a single joint... and many have! They have a no tolerance policy.
It is for this reason that we need to legalize marijuana.
In California they had the same policy in place for years! At $42K a year to lock up someone! Now California is broke! Was it worth it? How many lives were ruined? How many can never get it back together after such an experience?
Legalize weed now.

politicians can't openly accept this best option publicly, i.e. legalizing drugs.
because they'd lose votes. and that's more important to them then doing the right thing on any one issue. they have to think of the bigger picture, they have a huge number of issues they want to get done, and they think in numbers.
to do right by one issue and fail to get voted into office, which allows them to do good on 100 issues, and if nobody is brave enough and smart enough to take that first step. well

i can hop in the car, drive a couple blocks down the road and purchase any drug i want RIGHT NOW and give my money to criminals and the cartel.
if drugs are legalized all this money can go to the government and this country will make BILLIONS of dollars to go to a positive use besides i should b able to put whatever i want into my body

Buddythunder1 1 year ago
God I hate how stupid the monkeys who clapped when he said 'It would take alot for me to change". They dont know anything, they cannot even think for themselves. The war on drugs goes beyond a simple Legal or illegal label. Its about someone else dictating what you can and cannot consume on this earth. If what you consume stays within your own body, and isnt affecting someone elses 'pursuit of happiness' than NOBODY has a right to tell you you cannot do drugs.
joshpcolts18 1 year ago 6
@joshpcolts18 Quite so.
It beggars belief, and it's depressing.

If drugs were legalized, 80% of those prison jobs & billions of dollars worth of funding would just evaporate! It's not for punishment or rehabilitation, it's for profits & employment.

In my opinion if our elected officials are so sure that they are right in their opinion as to what we as citizens can possess in order to be considered law abiding, respectable, and responsible citizens than the least they can do is to treat people with dignity and respect by accepting responsibility for the damages and deaths associated with alcohol.

They see things in reality that lawmakers may never see.
squeege421 2 years ago
If drugs are legalized and controlled, the 'street dealer' will go out of business. People would never buy anything questionable off the street if there were garanteed pure and effective substances to be found at clinics or institutions, who could be held responsible for negligence.
Anything you make illegal will open a black market, causing crime, poverty, and above all violence due to controlling territory and supply. Controlled legalization of drugs in America would benefit the world.
IanBillings00 2 years ago
I think that McCain is representing an old mentality, of people who are completely ignorant of drugs other than the propeganda and info-tainment they read/see on the TV. His statement of areas in Europe where drugs have been legalized, having been "closed down" from negative effects is completely ignorant of the truth. He is only seeing the tiny minority of hurt, to the vast majority of benefit. He is also ignoring the other factors that may play into the negative effects such as poverty.

Jonasinc1 2 years ago 2
They really have none... their method is to use the interstate commerce clause which gives them jurisdiction over just that... So marijuana is only legal with a special federal stamp.. that doesn't exist. This is especially ridiculous considering they use this justification to outlaw possession, use, and even growing it in your own home. Most laws on the books would be thrown out by anyone with respect for the constitution.
triggerguy1 2 years ago
Their logic under "interstate commerce" is that drugs legal in a state *could* enter into illegal interstate commerce, therefore they can outlaw it altogether.
But if you apply that logic fully, it means there is *no* limit whatsoever to what the Fed can justify regulating.

Thats what the prohibition would consist of......getting people help they need and the information they need to know about the drugs they use. If drugs were regulated people would be able to get the help they need without being prosecuted. Mccain is the same though!!
