Oh, woww!! I LOVED this song back in 1985. It was the "Mas Mas" (the Top) for a couple of weeks back home, a big hit in early 1985, but I had never watched the video :o Thanks for posting this!
According to Wikipedia, Alisha would have only been about 16 when this song came out. She looks much older here. Must be the makeup or the video was recorded later than 1984.
@sweiland75 Probably a bit of both. Most artists from the dance genre didn't jump right away on the MTV bandwagon. Remember MTV only came out 3 years prior. Alisha was mostly played in the clubs before her music went mainstream so more then likely no video was initially made. I have heard of videos being made for songs as much as 10 to 15 years later. Usually the video is made out of a live/studio performance that is synced to the music...as probably would be the case here.
@asteiator I kinda see where you are coming from, but she could've done worse.... Sometimes these "copies" are good 'cause you can use them to keep the groove going....
To set the record straight about the similar base-line with Into The Groove: In 1987, Shep Pettibone added new material to Madonna's "Into the Groove", significantly changing the arrangement so that Madonna could get more stage time and a broader performance out of the song. Shep Pettibone had obviously been smitten with the record, as he had used the basic rhythm arrangement for New York teen queen Alisha's "Baby Talk" in 1985.
Someone sent me this as one of their favorite 80's dance songs. I do not remember this song or artist. Maybe because if I had heard it on the radio, I would have thought it was Madonna. 'Alisha' reminds me of Lady Gaga though. All glitz and no glamour.
Stephen Bray worked on this- note the similar bassline to "Into the Groove.'
Alisha was just one of many "wanna-bes" that mimicked Madonna's style. A lot of the freestyle wingers also would fall under that category. Madonna's debut album influenced and shaped dance-pop to come thereafter, without a doubt.
@JimmyRAD9 hmmm i wouldn't say she was trying to mimic Madonna, in this era of hotmixing and breaking she fell more into the harder dance category not pop
Alisha was 14 when she recorded her first album, what an amazing, mature sounding voice! Some people used to say she was another Madonna wannabe, I never thought she sounded anything like Madonna... in fact, I think Alisha sounds so much better.
The beginning of this is so awesomely '80s too. She walks into the venue with her friend who asks in a very Brooklyn accent, "Is he gunna be he-ya tonight?" And Alisha's all, "I dunno."
Holy sh*t! I remember this jam! I was like 10 going on 11 years old in 1986 when this jam was out! I've been trying to find this jam for quite some time. This jam, along w/ Regina's "Baby Love"---I always thought those 2 were sung by Madonna! Either way, it's still a cool jam!
ALL NIGHT PASSION and BABY TALK are AWESOME songs!!!! Where was THIS girlin the 80's? She should have been a household name! GREAT voice! Any idea what she is doing these days?
wow, I remember I loved this song when I was child ..... It sounded so dance, and in my opinion it appeared when Madonna's Into The Groove was aired too !!! both songs seem made by the same producer
completely awesome and rare. I dig the twin brothers in the band. the singer moves and sings really well in a party like venue... Classic!... Hey check out the early hit tune " tell me that I am dreaming" by a group called Was not Was... thanks for posting...

God, I love this track! I heard this on KSS FM one time and I so wanted to know who the vocalist was. She sounds beautiful and I love the wardrobe she has on...a true lady of the 80s!
This song makes me thing about all of the movies I used to watch back then: the Goonies, Karate Kid, Beverly Hills Cop, etc.
@mfuji00001 In fact she is a one hit wonder. Many talents never get a chance and grieve about it. But some reach the highest possible.... to disappear and never be heard of again. That is maybe the hardes part and example that showbizz can be really cruel too: to shine like a star and then fade away just as quick. But we will remember this music. It was made in a great time when music really was..music. That's why it survives decades, and other, much newer tracks don't;)
oui. moi aussi je pense a Madonna quand j'ecoute cette chanson.
