Heinrich Himmler was a coward who hid behind his uniform and power. He even got sick when he visited the death camps he was in charge of. He also got sick when he saw the Einsatzgruppen at work. He was a little man who wanted to play with the big boys. If it weren't the Nazis, he would have ended up as an accountant or clerical worker.

Those that were more rational knew that Germany would ultimately lose a world war however fear of the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) kept them from voicing thier concerns.
