Curt Meyran, great friend of mine, died trying to save those same blacks and latinos back in '05. And you wanna tell me the FDNY is racist? Go soak your head, pendejo.

For most of its history the dept was dominated by whites and more often then not other races trying to enter the dept were denied by and large because of their ethnicity. This trend only began to break down slowly during the 70's and 80's but whites were still a visible Majority with respect to the cities population. However I believe the dept has gone far to retify the mistakes of the past.

If you graduate at the top of your class academically or physically, you can pick your firehouse. Everyone else can request a borough, but there are no guarantees.
