@utrechtnoordwest In the US, more kids are playing football/soccer than any other sport. The youth leagues over here are absolutely immense in number. But it remains more of a recreational sport, because while it is very popular among the populace there aren't many opportunities to do anything with it. Universities give out few scholarships to soccer players because the collegiate level of play isn't very large or well funded, for that matter. But MLS is growing rapidly and it's catching on.

Soccer isnt even a top 5 sport in the US. Our male athletes play football, basketball, baseball etc. Could you imagine if our top athletes grew up playing soccer as they do in all other countries? As soccer becomes more popular and the contracts become more comparable to the other major sports you will see an influx of talent begin to turn toward soccer in the United States.

Baseball we suck at, I mean we got bronze and silver was awarded to cuba and gold was awarded to South Korea. Nations 1/50th the size of our country is beating us. Basketball we will always dominate haha
Football i don't consider it an international sport since no other country plays it so no one in the world really cares about football but americans.

@StraightOuttaDC It didn't matter. Goals come so rarely in higher level soccer that as soon as one goes in, the crowd erupts because of the crazy tension that builds up beforehand.

you ever watched a european top class match match besides world cup every 4 years?? Even in the second german or english league there is more passion than in a normal baseball or American egghandball match. I know this because i visited some NBA,MLB and NFL matches when i visited your nice country. But the problem is that in your stadiums mostly families or some guys go to a game too eat a hot dog drink some beer or coke, watch some cheerleader and some sports.

I would have loved England to have just one of those last minute winner type of moments in the World Cup last year. Instead we played the typical English way and completely messed things up, whereas the USA team actually played as if it meant something to them. Fair play!
