  • Thanks for this Vid it really help with my assignment..cz in usin 2008

  • what is amient occulsion? is it another shader?

  • they are soft shadows

rendering ambient occlusion is very CPU intensive and takes some time to render

bach baking an ambient oclussion map

onto your model however cuts the production time dramatically

because the soft shadows are now used as a texture rather then being rendered

  • ok thx. i tried it nd it looks very good :D

  • depending on the texture size

you might need to smooth out the edges around the corners in photoshop

    a 512 map is good

    I usually work with 2048x 2048

    resolution

in adition to your PSD network, the soft sadows could be baked onto your texture adding more detail :)

  • and how can i improt the shadow into photoshop?

  • I use Maya so it usually saves it in

    render data/ mentalray/ lightmap

you can import the file into photoshop and apply your textures then

    important note:

    when baking ambient oclusion

be sure to have your face normals faceing the right direction

and dont overlap uvs unless you have a proper seam to diferentiate between sharp edges along a polygon

overlaping uvs can help free up texture space, but the shell borders have to be properly placed in order to produce satisfactory results

  • thx but does maya cost any money?

  • lol yeah... $7,000 U.S. if you want to get into Maya Autodesk offers a PLE (personal learning edition) I recomend Digital-Tutors they offer great tutorials start with the basics and depending on your background move up to intermediate to advanced my background is advanced 3d modelling/U.V. mapping/texturing/shader programing/rendering:P the ple version doesnt offer any import/export features and has a watermark I'll give you a hint (bit torent) :P lol
  • oh thx but how much space does maya need? cauz i dont have much anymore (lol) i wasted 100 GB :D

  • not much around 450~600mb

I suggest freeing up some space on your hardrive and getting an external HDD

    I noticed your using Blender

    great open source

    is animation your primary background?

or are you still experimenting with different aspects of 3d graphics?

    what are your specs?

  • i try to make a game there, but i have a big problem like you seen.

  • lol dont feel bad bro :P when I first started in Maya I didnt know how to navigate around a 3d view port everything takes time and patience dont give up your 14 and so far I see alot of potential you cant learn with out trial and error my freind but you have alot of time to improve on your skills Im 25 and Im still learning :P keep up the good work kido I have high hopes for you ;) check out Maya unlimited and digital-tutors step by step in all major aspects of 3d animation
  • thx i dont give up :) i just hve to wait till my answer to my question comes. i already asked someone with a PM and he is a pro i think.

  • thats good :)

pretty soon it will be you giving hints to an aspiring 3d artist such as yourself ;)

3ds max is very good too

    both Maya and Max are

industry standards in the 3d community

but I highly recomend Maya :)

  • jeah, i already heard about max and that is an industry standard. but i didnt knew that maya is, too. both of them have so cool features like that splitting thing and importable physics engines like euphoria (i think, im not sure) and havok.

  • Endorphin :P very powerful tool for physics/ animation and is very compatible with Maya motion builder is another app thats very good before Maya was aquired by Autodesk they were owned by Alias Motionbuilder is also an Alias product bought by Autodesk I believe the term you were looking for (splitting thing) is edge loops? :P lol its been around for a while now very cool feature in Maya Edge loops are very important for organic models such as the face proper loops=good animation
  • if animation is what your looking into

Endorphin is a dream come true

probably the coolest app out there :P

  • jeah endorphin is really cool. but too bad tht we haveto pay just to remove the watermark and get the exporting function -.- thats tooooooooooo much that we have to pay

  • they do offer a trial version of Endorphin but I just search it on bittorent :P lol dude.... I cant afford a $7000 program like Maya lmao if your familliar with bittorents search for it,if not, heres what you need bittorent client (download it) search for torrents on google example "Maya unlimited torent" open the link in your bittorent program and wait for it to finish downloading :P look up bittorent on youtube they should help you ;) peace :/ Y
  • ok thx. i already have a bittorrent client ;-) and i know how to use it (no panic! idont use it very often)

  • lol

    k bro

    take it easy

keep up the good work ;)

  • i will do it :D but i find no link that works

  • ...and Softimage is the leader!

  • the use of psd networks is a huge time saver in maya

    before you start making textures

you should first properly alighn the uvs

    when I say shell borders

I mean the border line between two polygons that share the same edge

but are not dependent on eachother

the reason behind overlaping uvs is to recycle textures for multiple objects

but if they are not properly mapped, you may see problems such as inverted bump maps

    reversed normals ( if mirrored)

not everything has to be merged

  • IT WORKED!! THANK YOU!!!!

  • It isnt working.. Weird.. But it's not because your tutorial, I've read many other occlusion tutorials and they also failed.

    Weird.. :S

  • uhhh this is shit.

followed this and it didnt work.

  • Gah! Why did you move your windows 1038941702 times?

  • hi...

well i too notice that (now) sometime because i want u show things clearly sometime maybe just ..... do it

  • Never mind i just went to your site, i see now its Maya. Looks like a very complicated program, i would probably be better off taking classes first. Cheers.

  • hi...

sorry but u r wrong this is in 3dsmax, well i also have AO tutorial in maya also

  • what 3d program are you using?

  • Doesnt work, crap tutorial.

  • if u r not able to do it, this does not mean this is waste. by the way u can contact me or send your file so that we sort the problem u facing

  • Nice, thanks for posting this.
