This song was written by Nick Gravenites and appeared on an album called "Be a Brother" by Big Brother and the Holding Company.
This is what wikpedia says:
Be a Brother is an album by Big Brother and the Holding Company, released in 1970. It was their first album after Janis Joplin´s departure.Listen for her singing back-up.
@buckandbilloshow - not trying to take anything away from Pure Prairie League, they are cool. Knowing the proper context for this song, makes it even cooler.
Merle's "Okie from Muskogee" has just come out and this was the very gentle response from the hippies.
When I was a log haired kid in the very early 70's, I came very close once to getting thumped by rednecks when Okie from Muskogee got played on the jukebox.
I liked Merle back then, just like Big Brother and the Holding Company.
@FpMLuser Look for I'll Change Your Flat Tire Merle
It's better than Big Brother's original, as it should be - PPL were a real country rock band. Good songwriting, though. It got airplay back then, as did The Youngblood's "Hippie From Olema," qv.
BTW, Merle is a big pothead, may have been even back then. He and The Strangers may have been totally baked when recording "Okie From Muskogie." But no way he could have let his fans, nor the general public, know that!
5 stars for the most prolific singer I know. How do you keep coming up with so much music? Do you like the T-5 or the strat best and why? Thanks, Sherrill
Hi Sherrill thanks very much. I have a list of about 400 songs for years when Billo along we added another 200 over 5 years. We just redo them when we get at the end of the list. I don't worry about sounding exactly like the original and that makes it easier. I could never rember all the orignal leads.
I have a Tele Deluxe and a T5, I love them both. I like the T5 for more "Acoustic" sounding tunes but I like the Tele for everything.
That was a nice wakeup tune!Never heard this before, don't know much about this group other than Vince Gill was in it,and the song Amy.Enjoyed this, great weekend friends,5*****Jerry
Thanks Curt appreciate. Be sure you catch our version of "Detroit City" we almost laughed ourself silly on that one last night it won't be up for a few days but don't miss it. LOL
Some mighty fine pickin' and strummin' going on in the old bunker tonight...with impeccable vocalizin' from the duo extraordinaire...and the gal with flair.
