The next great film director is an illusion. It is only based on opinion and never will ONE director win over the masses. However, we attach the words "the next great" to single out one person as being the best. But there is no "best" in a world of egotistical opinion.
Pick up your film camera, or your digital camera if that's what you use, and get out there and make films. You have the opportunity at this moment to broadcast for free, short films or segments of longer ones. What are you waiting for? People are waiting to see and hear what you have to say. You think you have all the time in the world? Ha! Get moving!
I have posted quite a few films on my youtube channel. They can collectively be found at myspace dot com slash humanityfilms. We can't post URL's in the comment space, so I had to write it out like that.
I wasn't. I didn't find out about it. Had I before the show went into production? I'd stand firm in my belief that the next great director won't be decided by a reality TV show. I wouldn't have auditioned. Thanks for keeping me in mind though..!!
you said in your last video that you WILL succeed in the movie industry. I believe you're already doing it...if success is having a positive influence and impact on those around you...you've succeeded several times over. I believe you will continue to do so. Keep going.
Hey David, a new subscriber here. I was wondering what´s your opinion about "Schizopolis", by Steven Soderbergh. I watched it some time ago and I remember myself thinking "If I was an aspiring filmmaker, I´d be so glad to have found this movie..."
your "intensity"/acting is obscene. but i love the fact that i can download your videos. if i couldn't i'd go stir criazy knowing that i wouldn't be able to prove how artificial you are.
Steven Spielberg doesnt care about the next great director who comes along, he only cares about the the money he will make from the reality series, along with the money he will make from the first movie that the winning director makes.
Jared, hi! Unfortunately, it IS a capitalist society, you're right.. however Steven Spielberg almost lives on the outskirts of it. Watching from afar, the street rats as they scuffle and play the game, the way HE did so very long ago. The show will exude talent. But the next "great" director is indeterminable. Statistically speaking, reality shows do not launch careers.
Hi David. I totally agree. The next great director will make a movie for around 10k, and show us something different than what floods the market now. Its corporate created talent. Money can bet that the winner's vision will be shot down if the corporate executives dont think it will sell.
This is exactly why I make movies. To tell a story, to evolve artistic vision in cinema, to be moved as much as I move people.. all without the politics of being a "director". I am a filmmaker that creates out of sheer and utter passion. There are a lot of filmmakers that do this, my question is.. how many of them are cast as "talent" on Mr. Spielberg's program?
Jennifer Hudson man...that is all I gotta say. But if someone is reading this and does not know what I mean then let me tell you. Jennifer did not win American Idol because America cannot vote for a great voice over a body type. She then got cast in Dreamgirls a year later and now she is an Oscar winner...it to Martin years to do that. Reality works sometimes.
Yer nuts, dude.

They're just trying to profit off the idea of 'Project Greenlight', which was much more entertaining.
These reality shows are ridiculous because they remove what's real about life and create their own definitions.

if you're a great director then it just proves that directors are really not useful to human culture.
