I'm actually amazed at this design of Dynasty Park, even though I'm an Auburn fan. I like how it's so close to Bryant-Denny Stadium. I think that this is gonna make the UA campus even more attractive.
I wish the video had some chicks by the pool. Also needs to have a crosswalk which connects to BD. Other than that it looks pretty freaking cool to me. Could've used a few more chicks on campus too...
I am totally with those who see this as inappropriate/unnecessary and a detriment, not progress. Your opinion may differ, but my opinion = hands down TERRIBLE idea. It totally reinforces my perception of skewed priorities in this town and penchant for extravagance by AL aristocracy. (i'd love to be proven otherwise about this btw)
A total aside- DP is being proposed as AL is cutting education funding at every level by double digits? Guess the economic meltdown hasn't hit everywhere after all
The economy didn't seem to have too big of an impact on selling the new skyboxes at BD. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I just don't see how this is a detriment to the university whether in terms of football, alumni, as an academic institution, etc. It's not like the University is kicking students out of Hoar Hall, doing away with the Liberal Arts Department, and firing 500 professors to pay for this. It is a privately funded commercial development.
Also, not sure but I heard it might include student housing. 'm pretty sure it will include retail. I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the eyesore argument. By the way, those same alumni who will buy there but only come 7 times a year are also the ones who pay Saban's salary, the Stadium expansion, etc. Not to mention, this will probably be a pretty good recruiting tool to attract the best students possible who will one day be the same ones paying coach's salaries, funding academic programs, etc.
The phenomenon of calling someone an Auburn fan because they think this hotel is a bad idea is fascinating to me. I know that the 4 or 5 people questioning the placement of the structure in these comments have about 7 or 8 degrees from UA among them. I also know that they work(ed) on campus and live in Tuscaloosa. How about a legitimate argument for it rather than simply calling someone an AU fan?
Okay, how about this. This will bring an unbelievable hotel right outside Bryant-Denny Stadium, remove a dilapidated, poorly-lit, and borderline embarassing apartment complex at one the most visible pieces of real estate in all of Tuscaloosa right by The Strip and build one of the nicest on campus mixed use projects in the countryI don't know the details but I think it will also add a ton of much-needed STUDENT/FACULTY parking. All I know is I can't wait...
Rich, people do live there in horrible apartments that are outrageously expensive. I'm all for improving housing there, but the cost of DP will be too high for students. People live there because of the convenience of walking to campus instead of parking three zip codes away and walking. This is an example of pushing out the people who work and attend Alabama for rich alums who visit 7x/ year. How about improving things for the people that invest several years of our lives at the University?
Additionally, Nick is a die-hard Alabama fan and alum. His response reflects the inappropriateness of this building and how it will stick out like a sore thumb in the surrounding area.
Unlike the beautiful apartments which currently occupy that? (Do people actually live there?) Give me a break. I'll take this building over that anyday of the week. And I'm pretty sure I'm in the majority...
There are several problems. The first is that this caters to people who come town only a few times a year, while pushing the folks who live, work, and attend the University further away from campus. It also drives up the cost of living surrounding campus and makes it more difficult for people to live nearby. And it doesn't fit the landscape. I'm all for renovating the housing in the area if it is reasonable, but this isn't going to be accessible to the ones who actually attend school.
please let this be a joke!! aren't there still vacancies at the other gameday condo places in town and people are supposed to want to move into this eyesore???
Sounds like a jealous Auburn fan. Maybe whenever Auburn wins a National Championship somebody will build something this cool in Auburn. They could call it Probation Nation...
I'm not a resident - just visit for games. That's who DP is being built for, right? I think they're selling to UA alums and fams. Looks like a great addition to Tuscaloosa's skyline. Why would anyone object?
My problem (bearing in mind I'm actually getting ready to move away) is that this is an already over-congested area even when not a football weekend. I'm not opposed to cleaning up that area but would still like it to have more of a college feel aesthetically speaking.
Anybody know if they still plan to build Dynasty Park?

Supporters of this, do you live in Tuscaloosa or only visit it 6-8 times a year? Just interested..

You couldn't get much closer to Bryant Denny. The old apt building there now needs to be torn down. Looks like a great project for UA and Tuscaloosa.
