This might just be my favourite recording of anything ever, I'm not sure. Paul sang on this really really well I think. Sometimes I think he can be kinda average at singing, but here, I think he's a beast at singing and guitar playing. It's such a shame they can't meet together again....
"This performance does actually exist on 'video "......If it does , plz post the link or request the owner to share it....... i will do anything to see the video !!!
@DairyOfAMilkman I've been trying for years to persuede the release of the video of this but unfortunately with no success to date.... big shame, why hide it? :(
When Shawn kicks into high gear, he always reminds me of the old days when I used to listen to a guitar phrase over and over on tape trying to learn it, and i forward and rewinded with the "play" button still down.
At 7:14 someone (i guess the one who was recording, or someone close to him) says in italian: "At first he looked like a dickhead, but then he pulled out a goddamn great technique!!" ... but I don't know who he referred to :P
I was at this show. The video of the other song that the group played is on YouTube. Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, and Alex Skolnick were on stage with Shawn Lane. In the first song (I'm going down) Lane absolutely blew everyone else off stage. But, it was when they played "Let it be" that everyone realized what they were in the presence of. Vai got off stage, took someone's video camera from the audience, and recorded Lane instead of playing. Satriani sang.

@MyShawnLaneVideos Hi! Maybe you know if Shawn has ever played with John McLaughlin? After all,he was one of Shawn's influences.I am asking you beacuse you probably have Ph.D. in, I don't know...everything related to Shawn Lane. :) I know he had met Holdsworth (as shown(Shawn?) in one of your videos), but never played with him. Just imagine this - fusion guitar trio Mclaughlin/Holdsworth/Lane...Holy trinity of jazz rock guitar...Cheers!
@SevenCircles Thanx for the info. I know about him playing with Eric Johnson, but did not know he played with last two mentioned. Another youtube user informed me that Shawn played with some Shakti guys, though. Have fun, man!
There are 2 video versions of this performance that exist that i know of....... one guy likes to sit on his copy like it was his throne, foaming at the mouth thinking about what he has that no-one else does, he'll never share his copy.
The other guy who has it, has the whole of that show from the front row, i've been trying to persuede him to share a copy of that show for a couple of years now, he did agree to it a few months back, but still nothing has emerged.
Yeah It's such a shame . I always thought that this has to be seen , such great show ... Hope you ll get It from that guy , just make him an offer he cannot refuse :D
If this guy who has a copy of this performace was a true music lover he would share it with the world especially when Shawn was such an amazing player.
I suppose if he is one of two people who has film to this it is his duty to share it with the world.
I can see why he might be reluctant to let it be shared but, i would.
Still definately sounds like Paul to me. I'll have to ask Paul, or someone who was there, to clear it up. It certainly isn't Shawn on vocals. In fact, i just thought, Mark Varney was there (Mike's brother), he actually filmed that footage of the All star Namm Jam from the same event, he should know. If i get an update i'll post it.
There's another video on here of Paul singing "Let it Be", and although the sound quality is different, it sounds like the same guy to my ears.
After listening to "My Religion" by Paul again, I'm still convinced, it's him (younger, obviously) singing. I'm not that sure, but you'd have to convince me otherwise.:D
No, i'm pretty sure it's Paul doing all the singing. There is another vid on YouTube of Paul playing this tune alone, you could do a comparison with the vocals to make sure.
this is amazing absolutely amazing, two of the best guitar playerd that i've ever heard, i love the way that some guitar player can play the fastest lick you can imagine and the next chord they're playing a bend with lots of feeling
Great cover by these two monsters. It never ceases to amaze me how respectful PG is with other guitar players. He clearly lets SL take the show, and showcase his absolutely out of this world talent and musicmanship. PG can make runs as well, but he simply does not. And it is not the first time I see PG do this on stage. He does his thing and lets center stage for the other guitar player. A true class guy. Thanks for the upload, by the way.
ok Update..I found someone that will digitize my Video of the NAMM show jam...expect it up by the new new (busy Holiday season)..When I post it.>i will live you the link.
I've bever tried to digitize the video..that's why i haven't posted...trust me if and when I do..you guys will love me!..there is is moment before the song started where Shawn is working on his tone and he started shredding you should see the look on Paul Gilbert's face then Paul says "What can I say?"
Cool... i really hope to see that someday... you were very, VERY lucky to have been there!!
Any chance of getting hold of a hard copy of the video??.... I'll send you 10 full Shawn Lane dvd's (all with full working menus i've done) for a copy of the video of that show.... hey, i'm generous, hehe.
This video is a good example of what set Shawn apart from all the other shredders; his solo here is intense, yet it remains musical with tasteful note choices.
He may no longer be with us, but his music will live on for all time.
I have a front row seat video of the whole Namm jam. Steve Vai even grabbed my Camera and videdo tapped who was on stange (shawn Lane, Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, Alex Skolnick, Joe Satriani and Steve himself) let the hating begin
haha..it's cool dude..I am going to upload the whole video on to my Machine so it doesn't degarde..it is quite a few years old. there is also a part where Dimebag is playing Pantera songs for a crowd and everyone is singing along
You'd be lucky to find this on film, only a few people have it, and I know for sure that one guy will never put it out on the net, cause it'll just be copied etc.
oh and by the way..if you think I'm kidding about the video I'm not. It was one of the coolest thigns to ever happen to me and that night I became a Shawn Lane fan

Eric Clatpon and Dwane Allman was a legendary guitar duo.
Jason Becker and Marty Frideman was an awsome guitar duo.
But Paul Gilbert and Shawn Lane? Can something conceivably get any better than that?
