P.S. I voted down on the post to see "how happy they are". Of course they're happy. Being normal isn't something to be cheerful about. Being the freaks they are has made them powerful people. Yes. They're freaks. They know it and they love it. <3
OH MY GOD! I just want to point out that Karen (the black one) lol STILL has that same freaky ass laugh! I love all the "strong beautiful family" posts. Buncha emotional crap. LOL These people are nuts! lol ALL OF 'EM! I can say that 'cause I'm an honorary member, damn it! :P
These "children are all in their 40s and 50s now. The bilolgical children of Dorothy and the daughter of Bob are almost 60. I loved their story and wished they would have updated us on them througout their teenage years, The last time they had a special on them was around 1977 and Dorothy's first adopted son Marty was married with a two-year-old daughter.
@wc1378 You're welcome. I would love to see an updated version of the Debolt's they touched my heart the way they love children. They are probably in their 80s now.
@Sheri451 I havent seen Karen in a while and I dont know about her parents, but she has 2 sons, they are healthy no disabilities. If I should catch with her and talk to her I will update you Sheri :)
I remember watching this documentary when I was a young boy. I think it must have been shown on HBO or Showtime. If i can remember the name of the documentary was Who are the Debolts and where did they get 19 children?. Anyhow, they are a true inspiration for people with disabilities and without.
Karens biological mother must have took Thalomide that morning sickness medicine banned in the 60s cuz it caused babies to be born without arms and legs. Karen is now almost 44. Suni was the first child the DeBolts adopted, Dorothy was a widow, when she married Bob. I would love to see an update on this family.
@TheFoxandTheRabbit I know your comment is old, but I knew a soldier who had both his legs blown off in Iraq, and he was never the same, and ended up killing himself. He felt completely worthless without his legs. It's sad, becuase it really is what you make it. Kudos to those who can get past it and live life. It's a challenge, for sure.
You sir are an ignorant bastard. you shouldn't discriminate them just because of how they look or how they live. Yes, they're different, but that doesent make them any less of a person. How is it not right to be born without legs or arms? people can't always be perfect, asshole. Have some respect for the DeBolts! These are awesome kids!

Some of the nicest people I ever met. Funny to think that this film was made in 1977.
That was another lifetime ago.
It was produced and directed by Henry Winkler. Gosh I remember how all impressed I was that The Fonz was in town LOL!
