In september 1990, finished in Tokyo a world tour promoting the album Slip Of The Tongue (3x platinium USA) that spawned 9 month of non-stop touring over 1 million people around the globe... Coverdale was worn-out after 4 years of intensive touring, promoting and album selling (Over 10 millions records sold with 2 albums in 4 years).... He was also not happy with the buisness side of MTv and record companies at the time... So he retired for a 3 years break....

ro7477, I'll tell you what happened -- dudes like Vai knew how to play and now any hack that knows three chords can slap something down in Garage Band and sell it on iTunes.

Vai wasn't even in Whitesnake when this was recorded. Adrian Vandenberg had those hand issues, couldn't record and Coverdale sent all the tapes for to Vai for him to lay down the lead tracks. His style and sound really brought this album to the next level. Loved John Sykes work on the previous album, though much blusier.
