@marc1979Guitare I believe he hasn't used a zener diode because the battery is only a 3V battery and the PIC12 is rated for 5.5V. If you look at the schematic, he actually stated he was using a 9-18V battery which he didn't opt for and therefore didn't need the zener diode.
The zener diode in the application he's stated in the schematic is actually wrong. The battery wouldn't last long with all of the wasted current and maybe even enough to burn it out.
Very impressive indeed. I am going to build one of these for my Tamiya trucks. I can only see one resistor on the board, but there are two on the schematic? is the other resistor and the diode on the other side of the board? Can i use ordinary high brightness led's for this circuit??
Mr . josepino necesito ayuda con el archivo hexadecimal dende este integrado el 555 y el 4017 es para luces secuenciales o strobe te agradecería tu ayuda gracias me puedes contactar al correo... eljork-16@hotmail.com
Could you please tell me, if you press the button and turn of the power. When the power is back on, will the pic start the program from the beginning or will it remember that you pushed the switch earlier?
I recall making, back in the 80s, a chaser from a 555 timer and a counter chip with tip29s gating solid state relays, for chasing mains lamps for a rock band's lighting. Even without the TIP29s and the SSRs, the damn thing was 10 times this size and capable of only one straight sequence! How times have changed. Nice choice of LED colours BTW.
Yes ! .. That is good question. I want to ask the same thing? And if it need to program from myself how to do that? I'm begginer in microcontroller :/ ..
You think thats cool, they have leds so small that you can inject them under your skin. Nano size in other words. The manufacturing company says you can have a tattoo that sparkles or maybe eyes light up, also for patients who need light reactive drugs.
I am making this for a school project, in the schematic it calls for 2 resistors and 9vd/c how do you make it work with a coin battery and it looks like 4 resistors and a zener. is the schematic a little different for the smd version?
@denha I have it working perfectly in a solderless breadboard, i am now working on a surface mount and it will not work off a coin battery, the components are different on the surface mount board. i did look at the website and cannot find anything that helps me.. i appreciate all the help, i would love an A on this project
The code is definitively diferent from josepino's.
Just see the pcb tracks, in the smd version, and you'll see that the circuit is a little bit diferent from josepino's. This is why the code is also diferent.
I made the circuit (josepino's),and programed the hex he has at it's site and the effect is a little different (specialy because half the leds are not 100% off).
As the josepino's has only the hex file, did you write a new code?
I was assuming the LEDs were multiplexed. But when I pause the video at 1:16, it appears that the same color LEDs are in parallel. How are you getting one LED to illuminate at a time?
@Kaos116 It's actually very clever how it's done. The LEDs are connected in a whay which requires two outputs to be high to draw current, rather than one, so different combinations of the two would turn different LEDs on. It allows for a lot more outputs.
@curlywurlycraig I had never seen that before. Very ingenious! For those wondering, it's called 'Charlieplexing'. Wikipedia has a great article on it.
Because electricity can only go through a LED in one direction, you can effectively connect two LED's to one PIC dataline. One in the normal direction, one the other way around.
The fifth dataline is used to select which pair of 4 led's is used. (current steering)
the first four LED's light up when this line is low, and the second four led's light p when this line is high.
@Kaos116 they are not in parallel, every other LED has to be connected in reverse... 4 pins positive/negative switching could result in controlling 8 leds total in this fashion, I'd reckon some programming is needed for such effects :)
i had a bigger one of these and the battery went flat so i made it use USB powered but unfortunately it burnt out in about 50 mins. can you get home kits to make these? cause it looks like a fun hobby
did you need to program the IC with an arduino (or comparable device)??, or was it pre-programmed, and you just needed to wire it up a certain way?? thanks for your help. -Joe
someone is probably going to correct me but looking at that it looks like he's commoned up the 0 volt and mounted the led's in banks of 2 with each led in each bank connected opposite polarity, essentially a 2x4 matrix. hence only 4 outputs needed.
That black thing in the center is a microcontroller. You can program it like a computer program. So you just program it to turn on and turn off the led as you want.
My dad made me one of these and can omone please tanslate this? どちらもメチャ綺麗ですね^^、部品を一つ一つ組んだんでしょう か?、こうゆう仕組みを知らない俺にはどう作ったのか見当もつき ません。凄いです^^。 wats does gthat mean !?!?!

The code seems to be diferent from the one at Jose Pino's site.
At the site, the chaser has 4 modes:
* LED CHASER MODE
* BRAKE MODE
* CHASER/BRAKE MODE
* OFF.
Is this one using the code provided at the site (hex)?
Another question: is the source code available?
Thanks
