@Tony434343 In 2002 Olympics in the 1000m there was a 4 racer fall in the final and many Americans blame Ahn from Korea and Koreans blame Ohno from usa. Really since then Ohno and korea have been large rivals and the fact that Ahn has had Ohnos number up in tell Ahn got hurt in 08. I agree with marcjmarino it seems they are trying to make this a friendly race. They really are racing for 3-4 and no one who is a great athlete really wants to race for a 3rd spot. From my point of view that is.
@hekio actually they are racing for 5-6th. But yeah I don't think there is alot of hatered between Ohno and the Korean skaters. Most of the hatered and hostility towards Ohno and the Korean skaters comes from US and Korean views watching the races.

Well, actually. no one really won. plus, the reason they weren't racing each other, was because they were only in the B Finals, and the B Finals isn't actually the real Finals, so they were saving their energy for future races to come later. speed skaters do that most of the time......just they never go that slow. But they did it to save energy, and no one really won.

Apolo's style is to stay to the rear, pace with the group, and make a push at the end. If his opponent is going slow, he is going to go slow, too, until he thinks its time to make his move. I don't see what the issue is.

This is the 1000m "B" final. The "A" final is the final where you can place and get points and medals. The top qualifiers (usually the top 2 finishers from each semi final) make it into the "A" final. Apolo and Lee didn't make it into the "A" final (maybe they fell or just didn't finish 1st or 2nd in the semis) so this race is useless. You can't get any medals or points from the "B" final. It's a waste of time and energy. Apolo and Lee agreed to just go really slow before the race started.
The "B" final is just a consolation race but it does nothing for you at the actual skate meet points wise or medal wise. Only the skaters in the A final get points or medals. This race is just a blow off race.
the top finisher from the B final gets the spot in the A final. If what you said was right, there would be no point of the race, so why would they create a B final? The whole point of it is to award an extra spot because of the level of competition. This is exactly what happened yesterday when Hammelin from Canada won the B Final race and got to race with the A Finalists for medals. These two were obviously just messing around since time doesnt really matter, the one who finishes first wins

The previous commenters are correct, because the B final really is just a stupid consolation match to become "the best of the losers". It makes perfect sense for these two to blow off a match like this.
That's correct. The main reason a "B" final is necessary in speed skating is because in the "A" final there is no telling how many people will be disqualified. For example, if there are 5 skaters in the "A" final and three of them get disqualified, then that means only 2 were able to get medals. So what happens to the Bronze medal? The person who finishes first in the B final moves up and receives it. It's just that the chance of that happening is about 3948438242398423 to 1 in the skating world

the rules state that if skaters refuse to race the ref can call the race back and make them do it again. Although entertaining it goes against everything short track stands for.
If you ever Speed skated you know you have a lot of races in a day. They both were looking for a rest no point killing themselves and risking injury and fatigue on a two man race that means little.

It's like a mixed display of rivalry, cooperation and mockery of both themselves and the race... it plays more like a sort of artistic skit than an actual race. But it went on for too long. They should've made a dash at the last few laps or something.

Kokodelicious10 is a Korean spam bot set up to trash Apolo Ohno. The Koreans are mad because their two guys fell in the recent race aand Apolo got the silver. Live in Korea for awhile and you'll understand what they are doing.

This is the 1000m "B" final. The "A" final is the final where you can place and get points and medals. The top qualifiers (usually the top 2 finishers from each semi final) make it into the "A" final. Apolo and Lee didn't make it into the "A" final (maybe they fell or just didn't finish 1st or 2nd in the semis) so this race is useless. You can't get any medals or points from the "B" final. It's a waste of time and energy. Apolo and Lee agreed to just go really slow before the race started.

The "B" final is just a consolation race but it does nothing for you at the actual skate meet points wise or medal wise. Only the skaters in the A final get points or medals. This race is just a blow off race.

the top finisher from the B final gets the spot in the A final. If what you said was right, there would be no point of the race, so why would they create a B final? The whole point of it is to award an extra spot because of the level of competition. This is exactly what happened yesterday when Hammelin from Canada won the B Final race and got to race with the A Finalists for medals. These two were obviously just messing around since time doesnt really matter, the one who finishes first wins

The previous commenters are correct, because the B final really is just a stupid consolation match to become "the best of the losers". It makes perfect sense for these two to blow off a match like this.

In the Olympics yesterday, the B finals was only the consolation; the A final competitors were arranged before regardless of who won the B finals.
In this race, the finish didn't matter either - either way, none would have had the chance to skate for the medal in the A finals.

That's correct. The main reason a "B" final is necessary in speed skating is because in the "A" final there is no telling how many people will be disqualified. For example, if there are 5 skaters in the "A" final and three of them get disqualified, then that means only 2 were able to get medals. So what happens to the Bronze medal? The person who finishes first in the B final moves up and receives it. It's just that the chance of that happening is about 3948438242398423 to 1 in the skating world

If you ever Speed skated you know you have a lot of races in a day. They both were looking for a rest no point killing themselves and risking injury and fatigue on a two man race that means little.
