About a year ago, I met Steve at a sports memorabilia show. He autographed a baseball for me. He was one of the friendliest men I've ever met, and it was a real honor to shake his hand. An interesting sidenote; he was a left handed pitcher (his nickname was Lefty), but he signed his name with his RIGHT hand. Unusual. He's a real gentleman, though.
Three pitchers come to mind when talking about left handers, Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, and Sandy Koufax.

I always respected Carlton for not talking to the media. He really stuck to his guns after they kept pissing him off while he was playing.

Carlton at his best was damn near unhittable. His 1972 season is virtually beyond belief.

@pnice000 After 30 yrs, I still have *many* of his cards ( as well as Schmidt ) including both of their rookie cards :-)
