@Hollister1922est LOL!!! I was thinking the same thing at first but alberpope has a good point about encouraging beginners ... it does look random though
awesome just came across your workouts i will be using them, i just started boxing as an amateur in march, so these drills will be put to great use thanks.
Good footwork drill,he who stand still eats many punches! To all the haters, this clip is meant to be part of your training not to teach you how to box in 2 minutes.
Time the footwork well with hard shots and your power is trebled.Good for evasive action as well as offensives.Nice footwork well explained.
They made us do that in my old martial arts studio specifically in Kuk Sol Won, this system had many techniques that involved switching, this drill is really good for that too.
Man... they burn your calves after a few reps. THANKs.
@smoochesmom1991 up to you... we do each one for a round 3mins... 30secs off then go again. We usually spend about 4 rounds doing footy work like this.. then 2-3 rounds of ring footwork just moving round the ring rolling under rope etc
If i were u, shooting a serious video and i see that retard making fun of me in the background i would have totally kicked him in the nuts...he is twisting his wrists like a girl anyways
don't listen to them everyone who is hating on the drill has probably never stepped in the cage or the ring in their life. watch ufc champ dominic cruz fight. he uses those footwork techniques to perfection. after you watch one of his fights come back and let me know if these drills wont work.
Oh true... You realize how effective this drill is once you watch the ending where he demonstrates why it will help you. Tyson had a lot of bounce in back in his prime.
you can be a great basketball player with that quickness... thanks for posting, Im getting sick and tired of basketball and im looking for new sport to keep in shape. I hope u slow down in some of the lessons. ...good luck
Nice foot work bro! I don't care what all the haters say, being fast on your feet always helps! Especially for a 260lbs guy! If Im cornered and need to cut out, this will do! Thanks for the tip! Im going to incorporate this to my boxing workouts!
@didiiscro haha, speaking ofe no life.you just internet bashed 3 people in a row in one thread.the youtube comment section is a joke, one you are dumb enough to take so serious. clearly taking your job as lowlife internet tough guy very seriously. obviously everybody else knew i was joking.and obviously u mad. get a life bud. and your right.im so jelly of his lean physique.haha.fag boy.
@johnsonphil85 You were joking yet you responded and made points? good drill...been doing it after i first saw this video and my corner cuts are better, and also it helps my over all footwork/balance and helps me get to positions faster to work my angles...thanks for the help...
To those of you criticizing this drill, I have been involved in boxing over 25 years and there are a lot of "drills" you do to help in footwork, defense and offense that are not necessarily made to mimic exactly in the ring. This is good for footwork and coordination more than anything else and it's good to do. Just like when Roger Mayweather works the mitts the way he does, its not so you can go and box exactly that way, its to develop speed, defense and coordination.
@johnsonphil85 if you had a life you wouldnt need to ask such a meaningless question. Who gives a fuck if he needs to do it shirtless or not. Also you must be a fat pathetic fuck and probably are threatened by his lean physique you queer fuck. Youre new to boxing, probably explains the numerous beatings you've had in your life. Bitch.
@johnsonphil85 With my personal experience, I found best results by doing them completely in the nude. Within about 2 months I could actually hit people with my balls.
Please before you say shit about these drills try them first? and like he said in a month youl get faster. If your not going to shut the hell up. Thanks for the vid man it helped me.
top drill boys 10/10, to all the shit talkers you think bouncing around the ring is bad go and say it to ALI all he ever did was bounce and he was only the greatest boxer ever, you guys have oviously been hit in the head too many times cause cutting the corner is one of the most important moves in any fighting, if you shittalkers are so much better at boxing then these guys post a video link to show us how its done or shut the fuk up
alot of keyboard "experts"!!....commenting on great videos with great advice. post a vid of yourselves demonstrating your training techniques, share with us your past fighting experiences stating your mistakes and what you do to improve. great videos albertpope!!keep on doin what ya doin!
People - relax. This is just a variation on a drill that we all have practiced, just to varying degrees. Albert I can see your point in this drill. My only concern is the flashy turn out. It seems like such a big movement - too much energy wasted an an opening for a quick opponent to just crack you. what if you cut that movement/momentum in half? Just turn out on the back leg, spinning him around into the corner/ropes. That has worked for me in sparring and fights. Just another variation.
@FUSSYMUAYTHAI Bouncing and Dancing around is good to a certain extent. Look at Muhammad Ali. His syle was to dance around his opponents and dodge all their punches to tire them out. The dancing makes it harder for your opponent to hit you because if you're moving around all the time, you can get out of the way faster and not have to put as much effort into slipping a punch. But you should never jump around to where your feet are this high.....
@leameyy - The point is not to jump high, but to stay low and compact when your feet leave the floor. Please don't say that you've never done, nor seen anyone do this drill? Do the set of 500 as a warm up everyday for a month, and you will get faster.
If you can't cut the corner, you get corralled into the corner.
@leameyy just had a look at your youtube video you guys look like a bunch of little faggots and your tryin to tell this guy how to fight lol my sister would knock you out keyboard hero lmfao
@leameyy this is a very good form of exercise to become more flexible with the foot work, I do that just to warm up and get loose but yeah I agree not to do this in the ring. when you fight you must keep your foot on the floor and move diligently.
@leameyy yeah I know because youre the expert and your footwork is impeccable. Youre the best and have never did a thing wrong in your life. Ever!
Congratulations, you are a first class grade B fuckwit. You graduated from just being a C grade fuckwit. You cant even be good at being a fuckwit youre that much of a demented cunt.
@leameyy dangerous move so how the fuck are you supposed to get away from your opponent then or get inside AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA you dumb ass mother fucker!!!!!!!!!!!1 You try to sound like you know what youre talking about but in reality you know fuck all. Maybe no one should ever move their feet in the ring. Fucking dumb cunt.
Can you please do a video demonstrating how you might use the final combination of movements (side step, switch stance, switch) against an opponent. I can't quite visualize how to apply the movement in a fight.
@TheLynch47 well son in boxing people like to move quickly around you and hit you from different angles, therefore you must be able to turn and defend/attack quickly
@HyperliteFoSh0, thanks. I'll remember to watch for strikes from different angles. When Albert does the sidestep-switchstance-switch, it looks (to me) like he does the switchstance side on to where his opponent would be... Which means he'd be presenting the side of his face to his opponent. That's an angle that I'm sure most people would gladly take. I thought that if Albert did the movement with an opponent I'd be able to see just how effective the movement is at getting around an opponent.
If all you can take away from this video is " white people can't fight" then you have never stepped in the ring a day in your life or you are a racist. Either way open your mind, learn something, and become a better person.
this is good work sir, i did my share of similar drills every damn day while fighting for the marine corps, and its because of these drill, i cut the corner for all my offensive attacks and most counters, and i havnt been knocked out yet. good work sir.

jesus, I can't believe the immature comments being made. That aside, these are very informative videos. Really appreciate your time spent breaking down these specific techniques.
Footwork is important in every combat sport. I train Muay Thai but Footwork is very underestimated in Muay thai. I'm glad that there are people who upload such excellent instruction videos on youtube! Thanks!!
Hey man, I just wanted to say that I really like this foot work video. I just started doing it and I can tell by how much fatigue I've gotten from it that it will do wonders for me once I step back into the ring. Thanks bro, keep it up.
i have no trouble doing that against sluggers but when someone is pouring his pressure onto me, i seem to not be able to go to the side. i can pivot out of the way but i can't keep doing that over and over. just this afternoon i got clocked in the head 3 times with hooks by a friend. what should i do?
Sounds like a good opportunity to counter punch. If it is a pattern you can identify, take 5 rounds of shadow boxing to simulate and visualize the exact circumstance. See if you can devise a counter punch defense. Your friend should land his punch on your glove and you should basically be running into the punch with your glove as a cushion between hit fist and your head. As soon as you block it, punch him with the same hand you used to block.
oh it was definitely a pattern i could identify. it was really dark and i have bad eyesight though. if i practice long enough and start watching some mayweather, i think i can pull through. he's very similar to ricky hatton.
watch paul williams vs. sergio martinez!paul williams is a long limbed pressure fighter.martinez handled it pretty good, got a little fatigued but he kept paul missing and his counters were beautiful.i think martinez won a close fight.
What I was always taught is that when a left hook is thrown at you, the best defense is to always roller under and step to your opponent's left(Which is your right).
@albertpope im sorry 562Krylon but footwork is key if you wanna stay protected. you can be the hardest hitter in the world but without footwork you dont stand a chance against a real boxer.
@562Krylon thats how your meant to train, u dont just hit a bag and hope for miracles 2 happen. Ive beeen involved in boxing for many years now and let me tell u, if u dont have great footwork and co-ordination then maybe boxing isnt for u.
@562Krylon You don't know what you're talking about my friend. You can't get an advantageous angle on someone without using this footwork. Angles are more important than practically anything else in fighting. If you think fighting is about standing in front of each other and throwing heavy hands you're the one who's going to get knocked out.
Crazy ass,footwork I need,to learn this

why do you do the switch stance? Can you make a video where you break this move down? This move is soo! Deadly!

jesus, I can't believe the immature comments being made.

Thanks bro, keep it up.

i have no trouble doing that against sluggers but when someone is pouring his pressure onto me, i seem to not be able to go to the side. i can pivot out of the way but i can't keep doing that over and over. just this afternoon i got clocked in the head 3 times with hooks by a friend. what should i do?
zzzzzzzzzz098 2 years ago
Sounds like a good opportunity to counter punch. If it is a pattern you can identify, take 5 rounds of shadow boxing to simulate and visualize the exact circumstance. See if you can devise a counter punch defense. Your friend should land his punch on your glove and you should basically be running into the punch with your glove as a cushion between hit fist and your head. As soon as you block it, punch him with the same hand you used to block.
try the 1-2 Dip drill
albertpope 2 years ago
oh it was definitely a pattern i could identify. it was really dark and i have bad eyesight though. if i practice long enough and start watching some mayweather, i think i can pull through. he's very similar to ricky hatton.

watch paul williams vs. sergio martinez!paul williams is a long limbed pressure fighter.martinez handled it pretty good, got a little fatigued but he kept paul missing and his counters were beautiful.i think martinez won a close fight.

What I was always taught is that when a left hook is thrown at you, the best defense is to always roller under and step to your opponent's left(Which is your right).

This comment has received too many negative votes show
week, you'll get knock the f out with training like that
562Krylon 2 years ago
weak? I never have... not to say it can't happen, but seriously; footwork is pretty important for not getting knocked out.
albertpope 2 years ago 24
@albertpope im sorry 562Krylon but footwork is key if you wanna stay protected. you can be the hardest hitter in the world but without footwork you dont stand a chance against a real boxer.
multimochafy 1 year ago
@multimochafy true. Unless you got a powerful punch like George Foreman who just throws punches

@562Krylon you sound like you've taken quite a few concussive blows yourself with spelling like that mate.

Clearly you don't understand training of any kind.
Rjackman84 1 year ago
@562Krylon thats how your meant to train, u dont just hit a bag and hope for miracles 2 happen. Ive beeen involved in boxing for many years now and let me tell u, if u dont have great footwork and co-ordination then maybe boxing isnt for u.
abzmullet 1 year ago
@562Krylon You don't know what you're talking about my friend. You can't get an advantageous angle on someone without using this footwork. Angles are more important than practically anything else in fighting. If you think fighting is about standing in front of each other and throwing heavy hands you're the one who's going to get knocked out.
