Im a big Johnny fan, but his voice has a soft lyrical quality that never resonated for me, even before I heard this version. I felt it wouldve worked better with Luther Ingram, Peabo Bryson, singing opposite Denise This song is also sung LIVE so the performers aren't taking too many chances here, just singin it straight. Given Tom's Explosive vocal ability, I dont doubt he could bring it to an intensity that would make you forget about Johnny if he wanted to.

Stop hatin on TOM in this song. JOhnny does GREAT on this song, but his voice is SO Compatible with Denise in terms of Melody and presentation that I dont hear the Male female contrast that I feel makes the song work. Im NOT sayin anything about Johnny's sexuality, here, just that this song is about a BREAKUP between a married couple. I prefer to hear the strong male voice, which Tom has, contrasted with the soft feminine voice that Denise has.

Yes, Tom Jones is a good singer but this is Johnny and Deniece's song. Also the chemistry between Deniece and Johnny when they sing this song is just better.
